Cool Guys Don't Look At Explosions

This music clip from the MTV Movie Awards is a cool little song, funny and has a very valid point.

Host Andy Samberg joined Will Ferrell to sing "Cool Guys Don't Look At Explosions."

Look at the evidence - The Joker, Robocop, Iron Man, Wolverine and J.J. Abrams are walking away.
Brilliant. What other examples did they miss?

Sweet Lincoln's mullet - Will Ferrell's sun screen

First there was Sex Panther, the aftershave that featured in the wonderful Anchorman, that was turned into a real product (there were also a few aftershaves based on Star Trek).

Now on hot days you can cover your self in Will Ferrell's creamy goodness.

These are all real items that Will Ferrell is promoting for Cancer for College.

Sexy Hot Tan - Are you sexy? Are you Hot? Then why in the world would you not want a "Sexy Hot Tan"

Sun Stroke - What golfer wouldn't want to sport a rich dark tan and add 57 yards to their tee shots?

Forbidden Fruit - Honestly, the less we say about this one the better for fear of being cast into a pit of fire.

Ferrell explained the reasoning for all of this, “The bottle says it all. I’ve always dreamed of owning a lotion company. And I’ve always hated cancer.”

Land of the Lost - Third Trailer

On his latest expedition, Dr. Rick Marshall (Will Ferrell) is sucked into a space-time vortex alongside his research assistant (Anna Friel) and a redneck survivalist (Danny McBride). In this alternate universe, the trio make friends with a primate named Chaka (Jorma Taccone), their only ally in a world full of dinosaurs and other fantastic creatures. Can they all make it back to our world alive, and if so: Will Dr. Marshall can go from zero to hero with his discoveries?
I must admit this does look like it will be quite fun.

Matt Damon in sci-fi film, The Adjustment Bureau. Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg in cop comedy, B Team

Variety reports that studios that are trying to fill 2010 release slates are weighing spec packages that would give them either an Adam McKay-directed action comedy starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, or a drama that will reunite Matt Damon with his The Bourne Ultimatum scribe George Nolfi.

Damon is at the center of The Adjustment Bureau, a contemporary science fiction love story that was shopped to studios by Media Rights Capital.

Nolfi wrote a script that is loosely based on a Philip K. Dick short story, and he will make his directing debut on the film, which will begin production by late summer.

Nolfi scripted the Damon-starrer Ocean's Twelve, but they developed a closer relationship when he scripted The Bourne Ultimatum. He is also writing the fourth installment of the Bourne franchise for Universal.

Separately, several studios were bidding Tuesday on B Team, a McKay-directed action comedy that casts Ferrell and Wahlberg as cops, with Chris Henchy writing the script.

Henchy co-wrote the upcoming Ferrell-starrer Land of the Lost, and he is co-executive producer of Entourage, the HBO show on which Wahlberg is executive producer.

Even though B Team and The Adjustment Bureau come with pricey packages -- buyers essentially commit to make the movies -- both pictures are expected to have studio homes before the week is over.

Land of the Lost - Full trailer

Space-time vortexes suck!

Will Ferrell stars as has-been scientist Dr. Rick Marshall, sucked into one and spat back through time. Way back. Now, Marshall has no weapons, few skills and questionable smarts to survive in an alternate universe full of marauding dinosaurs and fantastic creatures from beyond our world - a place of spectacular sights and super-scaled comedy known as the Land of the Lost.

Sucked alongside him for the adventure are crack-smart research assistant Holly (Anna Friel) and a redneck survivalist (Danny McBride) named Will. Chased by T-Rex and stalked by painfully slow reptiles known as Sleestaks, Marshall, Will and Holly must rely on their only ally - a primate called Chaka (Jorma Taccone) to navigate out of the hybrid dimension. Escape from this routine expedition gone awry and they’re heroes. Get stuck, and they'll be permanent refugees in the Land of the Lost.

Based on the classic television series created by Sid & Marty Krofft, Land of the Lost is directed by Brad Silberling and produced by Jimmy Miller and Sid & Marty Krofft.

Land of the Lost - TV Spot Trailer thing from the Super Bowl. Will Ferrell plays Will Ferrell...again

Will Ferrell and Danny McBride star together in this prehistoric adventure based on the 1970's TV show.

Not sure what to make of this. Never seen the TV series and I don't mind Will Ferrell. Is it going to be good or bad?

Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes to be start of a Franchise.

This was pretty much a given but now Warner Bros. have mentioned to Reuters that they hope Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes movie will become a lucrative new franchise.

Robert Downey Jr said one reason he was chosen for the role may have been his involvement in action movie "Iron Man," which earned over $570 million in global ticket sales this year, and he promised his Holmes would be the best screen portrayal ever.

"In case you aren't aware I had a hell of a summer, and it's made me much more viable to play a lead role than I might have (been) in the past," Downey Jr. told reporters in London, where shooting on "Sherlock Holmes" is about to begin.

When asked what he could bring to a character portrayed countless times on film and television, he joked: "Clearly I'm going to do it better than it's ever been done.

"The more I read about it the more overwhelmed I was by the weight of it and the amount of people who will be watching to see if it's gotten right."

Director Guy Ritchie said "Sherlock Holmes" was his biggest movie "by a long shot" in terms of budget.

Producer Joel Silver would not name the figure, but he called the budget "healthy" and said plans had not been affected by recent turmoil on the financial markets.

"What we've done is hopefully launched a franchise of Sherlock Holmes stories," he said.

Warner Bros. may be hoping the series can replace Harry Potter, which has three films left to go and could end in 2011. The franchise based on J.K. Rowling's boy wizard tales has grossed $4.5 billion at worldwide box offices so far.

The new Sherlock Holmes film is based on an original story by Lionel Wigram inspired by the Arthur Conan Doyle books.

"I really knew Sherlock Holmes from tapes -- I wasn't a very good reader," said Ritchie. "What I had imagined in my mind was not exactly what I'd seen previously manifested on film.

"I am a fan of many of the previous productions of Sherlock Holmes. I just think we can have a different take and I'd like to think a better take."

He added: "We're trying to be as authentic as we can to what we see as the original Sherlock Holmes. We are also specifically keen on keeping it authentic to Conan Doyle."

The director said he had never considered involving his wife Madonna in the new movie, and originally thought Downey Jr. may be too old for Holmes.

As well as bringing more action sequences to the story, the dynamic between Holmes and loyal assistant Dr. Watson looks set to differ from what audiences are used to with the casting of heartthrob Jude Law in the part.

Silver was aware that the announcement of Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes project came soon after another film based on the 19th century detective was unveiled starring Sacha Baron Cohen in the lead and Will Ferrell as Watson.

He said the movies would be released at different times -- Sherlock Holmes has a tentative release date of 2010 -- and Ritchie joked: "We've done as much as we can to sabotage Sacha Baron Cohen."

What do you think to all this. The fact Ritchie says he isn't one to read is a bit worrying when doing such a literary classic.

Step Brothers, 2008 - Review

Director: Adam McKay
Starring: Will Ferrell, John C Reilly, Mary Steenburgen, Richard Jenkins

Score: 7/10

This review from Babubhaut. Step Brothers is out in the UK on 29 August.

I never in my wildest dreams thought I'd ever utter these words about a Will Ferrell vehicle, especially one with Adam McKay as collaborator—besides that Pearl video The Landlord on the internet last year—but here it is. Step Brothers is an absolutely hilarious film. From end to end, I don't remember the last time I've laughed this hard, without stop. This is what Ferrell needs to do, no more of those bio-spoofs of idiots that fall flat due to their tired joke. He is unstoppable as a part of an ensemble when he doesn't have to be the center of attention for an hour and half. The guy is obnoxious, and while funny, the more freedom he gets, the more annoying he is. Having a guy like John C. Reilly to play off of helps rein him in and give the audience a break, allowing the jokes to breath and not become stifled by the monotony of his schtick. Like Old School before it, Ferrell kills in smaller doses. He has shown me that ability again here and whereas I won't even keep Anchorman or Talladega Nights on screen when flipping through the television, I seriously can't wait to revisit this one again.

There is no bloated plot involved or even a love interest to distract from the comedy like the previous two "Everyman" entries in the Ferrell/McKay tag team's canon. I do believe that is the most refreshing aspect here; they finally see that you don't need a contrived romantic bent to be successful, we as an audience don't need to see the schlubby guy get the attractive girl, that is a cliché used way too often. We go to see a film like this to be entertained and to cause us to wet our pants with unstoppable laughter. As a result there are no lulls as even when the two stars begin to see how they must shape up and become adults for once, the awkwardness brings the laughs as well.

Step Brothers isn't winning any Oscars any time soon. With a premise involving the union of two older professionals, both of whom have 40-year old sons still living at home, devoid of responsibility, and lacking serious occupations, what do you really expect? Nancy Huff, (Mary Steenburgen showing that she is still around Hollywood), and Robert Doback, (Richard Jenkins letting his funny side out to complement the wonderful dramatic turn he gave in this year's The Visitor), are in love and perfect for one another. Their sons, unbeknownst to them at first, are also soulmates in the best friend platonic way. Completely the same person, right down to the hiding things in the kitchen while sleepwalking at night, Brennan and Dale are children trapped in adult bodies who waited forty years to be brought together. The chemistry between Ferrell and Reilly is unstoppable on screen, they are having fun, they must be improvising, and truthfully not a second falls flat.

With so many gags, one would think it'd all seem a bit disparate and thrown together, but the filmmakers and stars have sewn everything up nicely. You want a rap video that is the most offensive thing you'll hear all year? Get Brennan and Dale to create a music talent agency. You want an a cappella rendition of Guns N' Roses? Give Brennan a cocky, pompous brother who can afford singing/voice listens for his entire family—absolutely priceless, and Adam Scott kills in this role, "Pow!". You need some gratuitous fake nudity? Give Ferrell a chance to rub his genitalia on Reilly's drumset. Check, check, and check. These guys cover all their bases, not to mention the swearing quota. I am surprised that they approved an R-rating here because it is so vulgar. The fact that a couple lines from the trailer didn't make the final cut shows that the actors must have improvised and done multiple takes of each scene. As a result, I'm sure they all tried to be as creatively crass as they could and to fantastic result. Some of the gems that spew forth ever so naturally are one-liners that will be repeated over and over again.

Really, it is these vulgarities that make the film that much more enjoyable to me. I think that McKay and Ferrell took a page out of the Apatow machine's book realizing a hard-R can and will sell. No one holds back at all, some of the sarcasm even makes the characters cry because it is so harsh. I love this aspect as it plays into the fact that these are 8-year old adults. Their excess of childlike exuberance and simplicity of mind and life—and let's not forget the way their parents react by either screaming and going to the Cheesecake Factory bar or coddling them as only a mother can do—adds to the absurdity of the situation and the laughs. Dale and Brennan fight, bicker, and eventually do everything together because they aren't just stepbrothers, no they are brothers for life in terms of their internal makeup. Think you and your sibling growing up in grade school, multiply that to the nth degree in terms of sex, violence, and language, and maybe you will be able to imagine what's in store for you once you sit down at the theatre. Just don't forget to stay after the first short run of end credits as the best jungle gym park brawl ever is awaiting you. Those kids didn't even have a chance.

Sherlock Holmes is Borat?

A while ago there was talk of reintroducing Sherlock Holmes to the cinema going public in an action packed pulp stylee franchise. Russell Crowe and Christian Bale, among others, were mentioned to play the great detective. This is not about that movie. That movie is from Warner Bros and Guy Ritchie is down to direct that.

Instead this is about a Sherlock Holmes movie from Columbia Pictures, produced by Judd Apatow and starring Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat, Ali G) as Sherlock Holmes and Will Ferrell as Watson. Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder) is writing the script. There's more on the story in Variety.

I'm not too sure about this to be honest. I'm a big fan of the Sherlock Holmes stories, I love the old Basil Rathbone movies and I like all the people involved in this new project, but it just makes me go meh! We shall have to wait and see what develops.
