Is Brandon Routh the George Lazenby of the Superman franchise

Poor Brandon Routh. He was hyped up big time as the new Man of Steel, but sadly, the film sucked. Why have the kid in it? Now it looks as if he will be hanging up the tights.

“The term of the contract expired,” Routh told entertainment site Omelete “But if they call me again, [I'd go] back to the character without thinking twice!”

The expiration of Routh’s contract is pretty crap news for the “Superman Returns” star, as Warner Bros. is rumored to be going a Batman Begins route with a total reboot and a darker tone. Going dark for Superman is the wrong way to go in my opinion.

“I do not know of anything,” Routh said of the film’s progress. “I’m sure that Warner Bros. is moving there, but everything is still uncertain. Really, I do not know anything.”

He Still Routh does have the Dylan Dog film, Dead of Night, and he is also going to be one of the evil ex-boyfriends in Edgar Wrights adaption of Scott Pilgrim vs The World.

Do you want to see Routh in another Superman film? If not him who else?

The Losers and Freddy Krueger to go head to head in 2010

It looks as if the Comedian and Rorschach will be battling it out in the box office next year.

According to Box Office Mojo, the adaption of DC Comics The Losers will hit theaters on 16th April 2010. This is the same release date as New Line’s A Nightmare on Elm Street

Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Jackie Earle Haley are the leading men of The Losers and Nightmare.

As far as I was aware The Losers had yet to start filming so it is a bit of a surprise for the release date to be announced so soon.

2010 should be quite a good year for Comic Book lovers - The Losers, Iron Man 2, Jonah Hex and Scott Pilgrim vs The World announced so far.

Out of The Losers and The Nightmare on Elm Street remake which one are you most looking forward to?

Lots of Marvel movie news -Iron Man 2, Bucky in Captain America, Loki in many films and more

Iron Man 2 director Jon Farveau recently tweeted some interesting news: “Mickey Rourke just did a marketing photo shoot. It’s the first time I saw him in full costume. I can’t wait for the images to be released.”

He later added “Scarlett, Rockwell and Paltrow all did their marketing shots. Downey is under the lights looking dapper as I tweet.”

FirstShowing where at theProducer Guild of America’s panel on Producing Marvel Movies. Marvel Entertainment producer Kevin Feige mentioned a few things about their upcoming films.

- Steve Roger’s sidekick Bucky is going to show up in The First Avenger: Captain Ame. As the majority of the film is set in World War 2 then this is to be expected. Who could play Bucky? It's "primarily" a period piece that takes place during WWII. He said they went and looked at Raiders of the Lost Ark, which he says he "didn't know" was a period piece when he was watching it. They want to make Captain America with the "same level of fun" as that. And in regards to director Joe Johnston, he said that this would be a little bit of The Rocketeer, lots of October Sky, and a little bit of the ship designs that Johnston did for Star Wars, alluding to how this is the perfect movie for him to direct. "It's the movie his entire career has been leading towards."

- Scarlett Johansson character in Iron Man 2 has “two sides,” entering the picture as an assistant to Tony Stark, but later revealed as Black Widow. Johnansson is signed up for multiple films.

- Iron Man 2 is up next, then Thor, then Captain America, then The Avengers in the summer of 2012. Feige said that they're "ordered this way for a reason." And confirmed that Samuel Jackson (Nick Fury) and Scarlett Johansson as well as Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Tom Hiddleston (Loki) are signed on for multiple movies or "multiple franchises," further extending that hint that Loki will be a villain who shows up quite often. Feige kept saying often that he'd love for audiences to have the same experience that comic book readers have - where characters make surprise appearances in issues they pick up almost out of nowhere. More an more I feel that they are going to be riffing on The Ultimates storylines from the first two volumes with Loki manipulating everyone from behind the scenes. I wonder if Hiddleston will have blink and you miss them cameos in Iron Man 2?

- Marvel is planning on announcing another new movie for 2012 within the next few months. What could it be? Doubtful that it will be Ant-Man as Edgar Wright is bust on Scot Pilgrim. Maybe it will be a Nick Fury film or maybe a SubMariner one. Possibly a sequel to the Incredible Hulk film.

All in all it is all very exciting news for all comic book fans.

Thor in Scott Pilgrim vs The World

This is the latest photo by Edgar Wright from the set of his Scott Pilgrim film. I've not read the comic, but I assume this has something to do with Scott having to fight one of the evil Ex-Boyfriends.

Scott Pilgrim vs The World - Edgar Wright shows us around

An Edgar Wright welcome from the set of Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World in his first video blog below. We get to see a look at some of the training and stunt action.

How cool would it be to work on a film like that. Lots of excellent stunt training, plus you are getting paid for it.

Check out the official site for lots of cool stuff.

Edgar Wright's blog has lots of photos from the shoot, including the one above. I think that shows Michael Cera as the titular Scott Pilgrim.

Scott Pilgrim vs The World - Bill Pope will make sure it looks lovely

Bill Pope is the cinematographer on such films as Army of Darkness, The Matrix, and Spider-Man 2. I thought all three of them were great and all looked lovely.

Therefore, the fact that he is working with Edgar Wright on Scott Pilgrim vs The World (as seen on the clapperboard above) should mean that this mix of live action / CGI / traditional animation will look very nice indeed. Just for the record the photo was taken on the outskirts of Toronto.

Brandon Routh talks Scott Pilgrim and Dylan Dog

Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) has been chatting to Collider about his upcoming roles in the two comic book movies, Dylan Dog and Scott Pilgrim vs The World.

First he chats about Dylan Dog. It's directed by Kevin Monroe and will start filming in New Orleans soon.

Next he chats about the Scott Pilgrim film directed by Edgar Wright. Apparantly it will mix real people with old school animation.

I'm currently having a bit of trouble getting the video embedded on this post. Keep checking back.

Edgar Wright talks Ant-Man

Wizard have an interview with Edgar Wright about his work on Scott Pilgrim and Ant-Man.

Here's what he has to say on the diminutive superhero.

Can you confirm that you're still involved with "Ant Man?"

WRIGHT: Absolutely. I wrote the first draft of the script which, to be honest, kind of took two years to deliver because I did "Hot Fuzz" in the middle of it. But I did my first draft of it just before the strike last year and I think it's one of my favorite things I've ever written. It was a real blast to write. I know that [Marvel's] very pleased with what we've done and, really, really, the appeal to that for me is the fact that like, Ant Man is considered slightly D-list. The whole raison d'etre of the piece for me and my thing has always been to take something that would seem to be uncool and make it really cool and that's certainly the case with British cops in "Hot Fuzz." To take the most seemingly kind of underwhelming concept and make something really cool out of it—I always liked that premise. As a little kid I had a reprint of "The Man in the Ant Hill," the very first Ant Man kind of story and it's something that always struck me. Most shrinking films are about in somebody in jeopardy and this is something where the shrinker has the power. Rather than it being something that's a terrible thing to happen, it's actually making your character into the most bad ass sort of action hero/spy possible.

The Random

The Movie Blog Uncut confirms that Thomas Jane isn't the one they wanted. Directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor were on the latest episode and mentioned that: "He's a great guy… But we don't see the guy as Jonah Hex, to be quite honest with you. But we like him."

Inglorious Bastards casting news. Instead of DiCaprio, German TV actor Christoph Waltz will be taking on that role. And instead of the previously announced Nastassja Kinski, actress Diane Kruger (who we know most from the National Treasure movies) will be taking on the role of Bridget Von Hammersmark.

Slap Shot, the classic 1977 politically incorrect hockey comedy starring Paul Newman is being remade. The update comes from YourMovieMaven

In production this year is a biopic on Beatles singer John Lennon titled Nowhere Boy. The script details "the story of Lennon as a lonely teenager growing up as his aunt and the mother who gave him up fight for his love. His only escape is music, art and his fateful friendship with Paul McCartney."

Edgar Wright has chimed in with an update on Scott Pilgrim vs the World via Wizard. For those who are unfamiliar, Scott Pilgrim is an adaptation of a comic book that's currently in the middle of its run.
