UPDATED with Pics - Iron Man 2 - War Machine has been seen at Comic Con

Jon Favreau premiered a look at for Iron Man 2 during the San Diego Comic Con. /film had the following description and it sounds brilliant.

Tony Stark is eating a donut while laying in the hole of the huge donut on the roof of Randy’s Donuts. Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury yells up “Sir, I’m gonna have to ask you to exit the donut!”

Cut to: Stark and Fury inside the restaurant eating and chatting. Stark asks if Fury was going to ask him to join his group again, to which Nick responds “I remember, you do everything yourself. How is that working out for you?” Stark asks Fury if he is supossed to look at his working eye or the eye patch.

Cut to: A government court hearing, where Tony is talking with Pepper Potts a few rows behind him. Senator Stern Asks Tony if he posseses a weapon, the iron man weapon. Stark says that its not a weapon, and that technically it’s a high tech prosthesis.

“Its a weapon Mr Stark!

“If your priority was to protect…”

“Well you can forget it!”

“I am Iron Man, the suit and I am one. You cant have it!”

The Senator calls Rhodey to the stand. Rhodey walks by Stark and tells him he’ll deal with it.

The Senator asks Stark what his point is and Stark responds that his point is “You’re welcome, I’m your nuclear deterrent,” … “I’ve kept the world safe, what more do you want? I tried to play ball with these ass clowns!” The Senator then says “F— You Mr. Stark!”

A montage begins with shots of newspapers and magazines with Stark on the cover. Voice over in a Russian accent “You come from a family of thieves and butchers…” Shots of Rourke putting together his whiplash suit. A bunch of random shots, including a bunch of girls dancing in front of a display with the American flag, and Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, kicking ass. Rourke arrives at the race car track in his Whiplash suit. He activates it and the wires light up with electricity as he whips them around. Stark is bloody, in his racing suit, down on the concrete. We see a close-up of Rourke laughing.

Cut to: Iron Man flying through the night air, dodging missiles which explode behind him, as he blasts towards Earth.

The Iron Man 2 logo appears on the screen, along with the music.

Then we get an extra sequence. Rhodey in a air plane hanger. Justin Hammer walks over and asks what this is about and Rhodey says it’s classified. Hammer looks down at a suit, which appears to be Stark’s old Mark II armor. “Is that what I think it is?” “What can you do for us?” Hammer shows Rhodey a bunch of different weaponry. Rhodey tells Hammer “I think i’ll take it.” “Which one?” “All of it.” Cut to: A shot of War Machine blasting off his guns.

Iron Man 2 - Nick Fury won't be doing much and lots of Armoured villains?

Samuel L Jackson is in Iron Man 2. That's known, as is the fact he's signed up to star in all the other Marvel films. However, will he be doing much kick ass spy type stuff? MTV spoke to Jackson who said fans will likely have to wait for The Avengers for Fury to see some action.

“Not this time, not yet,” Jackson said likelihood we’ll see his character become the action hero fans know in “Iron Man 2.” “We still haven’t moved Nick Fury into the bad-ass zone. He’s still just kind of a talker.”

Asked whether fans will have to wait until the superhero team-up in “The Avengers” to see Fury get into some action scenes, Jackson simply said, “Looking forward to that, yeah.”

Along with dropping some hints about Nick Fury’s potential brawl, Jackson also told MTV News that he’s done filming on the project, adding that most of his scenes were shot with Robert Downey Jr., but there were also a few with Scarlett Johansson, too.

Cinemablend have a news story saying Robert Downey Jr went to the aid of an extra who was injured during filming. That's not the interesting part though. Apparantly this happened during a scene in which stunt men dressed as robotic villains rampage through the set.

That's the interesting bit and reminds me of the Armour Wars storyline. That is the one when Stark realises his technology has got out and tracks down all the armour that utilizes it and shuts it down. We know Whiplash (Mickey Rourke) has armour that appears to be derived from Stark Tech, could these be more?

Phillip Noyce to direct Mixed Blood. Samuel L Jackson to play Disaster Zondi

Once Phillip Noyce has finished Salt with Angeline Jolie it looks as if he will go on to direct the thriller Mixed Blood, which has Samuel Jackson on board to play a key co-starring role.

Based on Roger Smith's novel of the same name the tale is set in South Africa and centers on an American fugitive trying to protect his family who's drawn into a world of murderers, kidnappers and corrupt cops.

Jackson would play a good detective who goes by the moniker of Disaster Zondi. Kelly Masterson, who penned "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead," is writing the adaptation.

Reluctant bank robber Jack Burn is on the run after a heist in the United States that left $3 million missing and one cop dead. Hiding out in Cape Town, South Africa, he is desperate to build a new life for his pregnant wife and young son. But on a tranquil evening in their new suburban neighbourhood they are the victims of a random gangland assault that changes everything. Benny Mongrel, an ex-con night watchman guarding a building site next to Burn's home, is another man desperate to escape his past. After years in the ghetto gangs of Cape Town he knows who went into Burn's house, and what the American did to them. He also knows his only chance to save his own brown skin is to forget what he saw.Burn's actions on that night trap them both in a cat-and-mouse game with Rudi 'Gatsby' Barnard - a corrupt Afrikaner cop who loves killing almost as much as he loves Jesus Christ and Disaster Zondi, a fastidious Zulu detective who wishes to settle an old score. Once Gatsby smells those missing American millions, the four men are drawn into a web of murder and vengeance that builds to an unforgettable conclusion.

Johannson and Jackson have begun filming on Iron Man 2

Today, according to MTV , Jon Favreau has provided fans with two bits of information about filming on Iron Man 2 — the first of which involves the film’s new female lead.

“Scarlett’s first day on set in the Black Widow outfit,” the director wrote today on Twitter. “You’ve never heard a crew get so quiet so fast.”

Scarlett Johansson’s involvement in the movie as Natasha Romanoff has already been well publicized — but the character was originally referred to as Tony Stark’s assistant, leading some to wonder if we’d even see her action-packed persona. Yet Favreau’s comments confirm what everyone has hoped to hear: Johansson will definitely appear as a fully costumed version of the Black Widow.

In addition to verifying the arrival of an in-costume Black Widow, Favreau also confirmed that Samuel L. Jackson was filming his role as Nick Fury on the “Iron Man 2″ set. The secrecy surrounding the S.H.I.E.L.D. director’s cameo in the first film is clearly out the window, as Favreau not only revealed the character’s involvement — he spilled the beans on who he’s filming with.

“Now shooting first scene with Tony Stark and Nick Fury,” declared Favreau.

Great news indeed. Also as the Tweets were sent within a few hours of each other it could be assumed that the three actors may also have a scene or two together. I can't wait to see some photos of Jackson and Scarlett on set.

Renny Harlin talks about The Long Kiss Goodnight sequel

Out doing promotions for "12 Rounds", director Renny Harlin ("CLiffhanger," "Die Hard 2") revealed that a sequel to his 1996 hit "The Long Kiss Goodnight" is in the works, but it may be a while off.

"You know I would love to [make the sequel] and I’ve talked about it but it’s definitely a rumour. Right now there’s nothing really cooking on it" said the Finnish director this week to Moviehole.

In the original, Geena Davis played spy Samantha Caine who lost her memory and became a housewife. Soon her real memories and skills start to re-emerge and Mitch Henessey (Samuel L. Jackson) gets pulled along for the ride as she hunts down those who tried to kill her.

The sequel would focus on Jackson alone and Harlin admits he has a story ready for it - "I do have a story line for it, that I worked out and I know exactly what would happen and I think it would be fantastic and I can reveal as much as saying it would be Sam Jackson to his misfortune crossing paths with Geena Davis's daughter from the first movie who in the first movie was about six years old and who would now be about 19 or 20."

Good News - Sam Jackson says Nick Fury is in Iron Man 2

Fellow comic book geeks join with me in a collective sigh of relief. Variety have the news that the Nick Fury seen in Iron Man played by Samuel L Jackson will be back.

Samuel L. Jackson has buried the hatchet with Marvel Entertainment, making a deal to play the role of Nick Fury in "Iron Man 2," and potentially many other films.

Jackson's deal is a long-term commitment to play Fury, the leader of the espionage unit the Shield. His deal contains an option to play the character in nine future Marvel superhero films, efforts that are expected to include "Captain America," "Thor," "The Avengers" and "The Shield" as well as potential sequels.

Jackson introduced Fury in the closing moments of "Iron Man," when the character asked Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark to join his group. Fury is a natural to show up in multiple Marvel franchises, as he crosses paths with many Marvel superheroes in the comic books.

Jackson's Marvel future looked murky, after he reportedly expressed his displeasure with the producer-financier's initial offer to reprise his role. Jackson was hardly alone: even though "Iron Man" grossed more than $600 million worldwide, Marvel brass has been very sparing in offers to talent like Mickey Rourke and Sam Rockwell to play villains in the sequel, sources said.

Jackson and his ICM reps have evidently cleared those dealmaking hurdles, and he will take part in the sequel that director Jon Favreau shoots in the spring, with Paramount Pictures distributing in summer 2010.

Now I wonder if they'll be able to sort out getting Mickey Rourke back on board?

Nick Fury is negotiating. Afro Samurai says no

Samuel L. Jackson, who was quoted recently saying he might not reprise the role of Nick Fury in upcoming Marvel Movies, remained tight-lipped about ongoing negotiations at the premiere of his Afro Samurai video game Tuesday in Hollywood.

Asked about the status of the talks, he simply told reporters: "Contract negotiation. ... It's like life. Nick Fury's negotiating."

The Los Angeles Times first reported that Jackson was not happy about the progress of talks between his representatives and Marvel Studios about bringing Jackson back as the iconic character in upcoming films, including a proposed Avengers movie.
But on Tuesday, Jackson gave no indication of ill feelings.

Jackson first appeared as Nick Fury, agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., in a post-credit cameo shot in Iron Man. Didn't Marvel have him signed up to play the character in subsequent films ahead of time?

"No," Jackson said.

Meanwhile, Jackson's pet project, the animated Afro Samurai, is due for a live-action movie starring Jackson in the title role. But Jackson said he rejected the first draft he received for that film.

"We read one, didn't work out too well but we're still working on it," he said.

Samuel L Jackson may not be Nick Fury

In an interview today over at the LA Times blog Hero Complex, Samuel L Jackson has some disturbing news that all is not well at Marvel HQ, and that his role as Nick Fury may not be a sure thing.
In response to the character’s appearance in Iron Man 2, Captain America, and The Avengers, he says that the role may be recast (with a cheaper actor of course), or Fury may not appear at all. Jackson elaborates further:

I saw ['Iron Man' and 'Iron Man 2' director] Jon Favreau at the Scream Awards and we had a conversation. He said, ‘I hope things are working out for you because we’re writing stuff for you.’ Then all of a sudden last week I talked to my agents and manager and things aren’t really working that well.

There was a huge kind of negotiation that broke down. I don’t know. Maybe I won’t be Nick Fury. Maybe somebody else will be Nick Fury or maybe Nick Fury won’t be in it. There seems to be an economic crisis in the Marvel Comics world so [they're saying to me], ‘We’re not making that deal.’

I think this will be a huge mistake on Marvel's part if they let Jackson go. He's a big name, his appearance as Fury at the end of Iron Man took the comic geek world by storm. Marvel have got something special going with their recent run of superhero movie world building. I really hope they don't throw it all away.

The Spirit, 2008 - Movie Review

This review is by Skon and may contain spoilers.

The Spirit is a film with few virtues. There's a fingerful but that's it.

Gabriel Macht delivers a certain charisma in the titular role as Will Eisner's classic middle-class superhero. This is his first time carrying a movie and had the focus been shifted more on him, his antics and his conflicts it would have been a better film. We witness some lovely moments when The Spirit talks about the love he has for his city, echoing something at the very heart of the superhero mythos. One scene has him even using the city as a shield, a weapon and a guide in his role as its guardian. These are poignant moments that evoke that somewhere underneath all the terribleness there might have been a spark of a good film here.

That's where all the virtues end.

People will probably gravitate to the cinematography of Bill Pope which does its best to marry Frank Miller's Sin City with the pulp comics of The Spirit's origins. But as pretty as the cinematography does look here and there, most of it is too busy, too dark and too careless. As a film that tries to show the protagonist's relationship with his city the cinematography should have created a sense of being in a vast metropolis. Instead the visuals feel completely green-screened and the effect is that the film ends up looking like it was shot on a stage instead of in a wide open city. There is also something that feels unfinished about the green-screening process as though some more work needed to be done and as such the film has the look of the cut scenes out of late 90's full motion video games with the characters standing out from rendered CGI effects like sore thumbs.

This is Frank Miller's first time out as a solo director. He is credited with co-directing Sin City and after seeing this film one realizes that Miller had very little to do with the physical directing on that film. It's sad to see one of the greatest comic book creators of all time helpless in trying to do justice to Will Eisner's creations. Miller even casts himself as a police officer whose head gets ripped off and used as a blunt weapon in the film's opening. One wonders if that was CGI or if the lack of any thinking going into this film can be blamed on Miller's headlessness. Either way it's an apt metaphor for a project that steams forward without any direction.

The film is a mess of tones and genres. Scenes tend to go on forever without anywhere to go in the first place. There's an overuse of flashbacks. And most of the dialogue is delivered in soliloquy (including a scene where The Spirit talks to a cat for 5 minutes). There are no subtleties in delivery, pacing or acting. Everything is blunt, harsh and cold. The audience knows everything in the first 15 minutes and it takes the rest of the characters an hour to catch up. It's frustrating, busy and excruciating to watch. Even attempts at humor fall flat. A running joke with 24's Louis Lombardi is amateur in its rendition.

The acting is where Miller's lack of film-making chops shows most prominently. Sam Jackson plays the Octopus, a villain whose face was never shown in Eisner's comics and rightfully so. Jackson is fresh off of a plane full of snakes and still acting like it. He plays the same tough character he always plays - shooting off big guns while shooting off his even bigger mouth. It's beginning to get boring and he needs to seek out more parts that explore his range. In order to make up for having no character depth or any credibility as a villain, Jackson and his henchwoman, played by the vastly overrated Scarlett Johansson, go through more costume changes than a Vegas strip show. Jackson goes from dressing like a pimp to a mutton-chopped samurai and even (I can't make this up) a monocled goose-stepping heil-hitlering Nazi in an offensive scene that seems like a bad pun on the classic Patton.

Further to the acting, there is a bevy of female characters that clutter this film in an attempt to create some element of pulp sex drama. Johansson's Silken Floss is just money thrown down the drain as she brings nothing to the movie. I've never understood her appeal and this film is perhaps best proof of her need to hire an acting coach. The Morgenstern character is a time-waster and eats up screen time lecturing the audience on the Electra principle (Miller you created a character named Elektra, you have a fascination with it, we get it, but it has no place in this film). To believe her character we'd have to believe that a rookie cop would be the only one to notice a gigantic clue two days after a crime scene has been cleared. Sarah Paulson and Eva Mendes, both in terribly written roles, try the hardest and as an audience member I appreciated that.

The free screening I attended last night had a number of rows oddly empty from the get go. And within 10 minutes about twenty people had already gotten up and left. The rest of us stayed because it was cold outside and perhaps hoping that things would only get better. They didn't. After the film we had a unique experience where audience members cultivated together, like strangers at a traffic accident, to criticize the film. People were upset over a film that failed in every possible way a film can fail and yet the advertising campaign paints it as a brilliant, exciting holiday adventure. I assure you it's not.

Lionsgate this is a train wreck. If this is your idea of giving your audience a holiday present honestly shame on you.

Iron Man 2 - Hawkeye and Black Widow are in it - Tim Robbins to play Tony Stark's father

Latino Review has the news that Tony Stark's father, Howard Stark, will be played by Tim Robbins in Iron Man 2. Jon Favreau wanted a top actor for the role as there is meant to be a big flashback in the sequel that helps set up The Avengers and Captain America films. For the Marvel films this is incredibly important to get right.

There is also the rumour that Hawkeye and Black Widow will both be in the next Iron Man film. This will help tie Iron Man further into the Marvel Universe and help the transition into the superhero world of the Avengers that much easier. Both Hawkeye and Black Widow have now powers but Hawkeye is a master marksman (mainly uses a bow) and Black Widow is female Russian spy. Both are basically superb atheletes and great characters.

It will be interesting to see if they follow The Ultimates version of the characters. I still think that is the way they will go for many of the Marvel films especially after the fact they cast Samuel L Jackson to play Nick Fury. Would be great to see the first volume of The Ultimates brought to the big screen.

The Incredible Hulk 2 should be happening. Tim Blake Nelson is in as the Leader but he's not sure if Ed Norton will be there.

MTV have been speaking to Tim Blake Nelson (Dr. Samel Stern) about his reappearance in The Incredible Hulk sequel as the villainous Leader.

Fans of this past summer’s “The Incredible Hulk” had a smile put on their faces recently when producer Gale Anne Hurd revealed to MTV News that a proper sequel for the big green guy was very much in the works. As it turns out, they weren’t the only ones.

“I know Gale Ann was talking to you guys about that recently, and I liked hearing it,” beamed an enthusiastic Tim Blake Nelson when MTV spoke with him recently, telling us that he’s on board with Hurd’s plan to have him play the villainous Leader in the next film.

These days, the talented writer/director/actor is in a dark editing bay assembling “Leaves of Grass,” a quirky 2009 drama that features Edward Norton in a dual performance. Nelson told us that during the shooting of “Leaves,” he and Norton sometimes spoke about their recent blockbuster experience, but he still can’t say with confidence that Norton will return following his rumored falling-out with Marvel Studios.

“We talked about [‘Hulk’] a little bit, yeah; we made some jokes about it,” Nelson remembered. “It’s all good, and I really do hope [the sequel] happens, for all sorts of reasons. But yeah, we did, we had a great time on ‘Hulk’ together. I’m eager to do ‘Hulk 2’ if they make it.”

But with stars like Robert Downey Jr. and Samuel L. Jackson continuing to talk themselves up for 2011’s epic “Avengers” flick, and Hulk expected to be a character in that film, Norton has become suspiciously tight-lipped on the topic of future adventures as Bruce Banner. So, with each passing month, it seems more likely that the next Hulk appearance will replace him with another actor just as he did with Eric Bana.

“I feel Edward and I are well-suited for one another. It’s really fun collaborating with him, and he made these characters [in ‘Hulk’ and ‘Leaves’] better,” explained Nelson, revealing that although he’d prefer not to, he would return even if Norton is removed from the series.

“Well, I’m signed on to do ‘Hulk 2’ and ‘3’ whether Edward’s there or not, so it’s not even up to me,” he explained. “When I agreed to do ‘Hulk,’ I signed off for two sequels, so it’s a moot question. I certainly hope Edward is on the sequel — but that’s up to Marvel and Edward.”

Either way, whenever Marvel and Gale Ann Hurd come calling for the “Hulk” sequel, Tim Blake Nelson says he’s fully prepared to show off his great big brain. “Oh, I already did [research into The Leader] when I was doing [Dr. Samuel] Sterns, because I felt that it would be helpful to lay in stuff as Sterns for what The Leader would be,” he explained of the super-intelligent baddie with a desire to take over the world. “So, that was all part of doing Sterns.”

This one is only 30 seconds long and it just looks like Sin City to me but not quite as bleak. Also has a Sky Captain vibe going through it. I'd love it to be a great film but it just seems off kilter.

Samuel L Jackson to be Nick Fury in lots of Marvel Films

Actor Samuel L. Jackson is preparing for a busy 2009 - he's aiming to feature in a whole host of movie comics after he was revealed as comic superspy Nick Fury at the end of Iron Man.

The Pulp Fiction star will play a key part in the sequel to this summer's Marvel blockbuster - but he's also hoping his character will appear in the forthcoming big-screen adaptations of Captain America, Thor and The Avengers.

He tells MTV.com, "Should be some little piece of all of that. I should kinda pass through Iron Man 2, Captain America, Thor - all those things - and eventually get to that Avengers space, yeah.

"They sorta gave me a master plan about how they want it to work... (But) I'll do every movie they wanna do. I'm down."

Frank Miller talks about The Spirit

Geoff Boucher of the LA Times has been chatting to Frank Miller about his forthcoming movie based on Will Wisner's The Spirit. He chats about the unique look that the trailers show, the cartoon like violence and the large number of glamourous actresses in the mix.

"I adored Will Eisner and took a real 'Don't tread on me' approach when I came to this movie. At the same time I was willing to tread all over it. I knew Will always wanted to do something fresh and new, not some stodgy old thing that aspires to be revered. I don't want anybody to bow to this movie. I want a ripping good yarn. It is not an antique."

The film is certainly of-the-moment with its "digital back lot" approach -- it was filmed against a green screen at a production complex in New Mexico and the backgrounds and settings were added well after the acting was done. With its dramatic use of color, stylized grit and dream-time physics, it will remind some viewers of "Sin City," the 2005 film co-directed by Robert Rodriguez and Miller that served as the comic-book artist's crash course in filmmaking. Unlike that film, however, "The Spirit" is laced with a fedora romance and screwball comedy sensibility that makes it a digitalized kindred soul to "Dick Tracy," Warren Beatty's 1990 film.

"It's very different than the look and feel of 'Sin City' and '300' because the source material is so different," Miller said earlier this year while taking a break from his labors at the Orphanage, a postproduction facility in San Francisco's Presidio. " 'The Spirit' is its own, full-color world."

"The Spirit" stars Gabriel Macht as the title character who starts the film as an ambitious rookie cop named Denny Colt before he dons his domino mask. The young cop is murdered but then apparently comes back from the dead -- even he's not sure how or why, but he learns that the sinister crime lord called the Octopus ( Samuel L. Jackson) has the answers he needs. The villain, meanwhile, wants to get his hands on the mystery man to exploit his back-from-the-grave ability. Some of the contours of the film are different than the old comics -- the Octopus was never even shown in the old days (he was just a pair of gloves in Eisner's panels) and Colt comes "back from the dead" with something close to invulnerability as well as with a sort of pheromone boost that makes women swoon. "The old Eisner comics were loaded with romance, beautiful and dangerous women, and that was a way to explain the sparks flying between the Spirit and every woman he meets," Miller explained.

Miller has a cast stacked with high-glamour actresses: Scarlett Johansson, Eva Mendes, Jaime King and Paz Vega all play beautiful women with bad intentions, while Sarah Paulson is the Spirit's frazzled girlfriend, Ellen Dolan, the proto-feminist daughter of the city police commissioner who has to contend with all the people who want to get their hands on the Spirit -- whether it's to punch him or kiss him. Another update: Spirit's girlfriend is now a surgeon, a career Miller says is a meld of nurturing heart and brainy realism.

The biggest differences between "The Spirit" and "Sin City" or "300" are the romances and the cartoon combat; the Spirit and Octopus both have a sort of Wile E. Coyote invincibility by the time they duke it out and they whack each other with cinder blocks, spanner wrenches and even a toilet with a jolly unreality that makes the film seem something like "The Mask" meets "Green Hornet." Jackson said it was a giddy time on the set filming the escalating mayhem.

"There are some great scenes where we just go at it," Jackson said, although he added that Miller found a way to keep the loopy universe true to itself. "Frank knew what he wanted to do. You look at this movie and you can tell it's his. Nobody else would make this movie this way, which is why he's doing movies now."

That may be a bit of a sore spot, though. Eisner's humanistic and often gentle, Capra-like approach to his character has many comics fans wondering why Miller -- famous for spilling vats of blood-red ink in his comics -- is taking the old man's winking Spirit into a Sin City. Miller welcomes all that.

"I'm sure when this movie comes out it will stir up a fiery debate . . .," the artist-turned-auteur said. "People have been loving the way comic books have been reaching the screen, but I don't like when everybody drinks the Kool-Aid. I like to shake things up and tell the story the best way possible. And I can tell you firsthand, that's what Will Eisner liked too."

Samuel L Jackson says Sho'nuff I'm going to be in The Last Dragon remake

Samuel L. Jackson is set to star as a bad guy again in Columbia Pictures' remake of Berry Gordy's 1985 cult classic The Last Dragon.

The actor will play Sho'nuff, the Shogun of Harlem, a role played in the original by the late Julius Carry, whose spiel included asking ego-driven questions like 'Am I the baddest mofo lowdown around this town?' Each time his gang of thugs answered, 'Sho 'nuff!'

Handling screenwriting as well as producing duties is Dallas Jackson, who heads up the urban family label DJ Classicz with Davis. Wu-Tang Clan's RZA is co-producing.

This new version of the film will be along the same lines of the original, centering on young martial arts student Leroy Green in his quest through the streets of New York to achieve the highest level of martial arts accomplishment, known as the Last Dragon. Those who achieve the high ranking possess the Glow, making them the greatest fighter alive.

The plan is for the project, announced by Columbia presidents Doug Belgrad and Matt Tolmach, will take a new look at The Last Dragon coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Motown next year.

"We're thrilled to be working with Kerry Gordy as he continues his father's legacy, and we're confident that he along with John and Dallas are the perfect team to develop the project," Belgrad offered. "They will capture everything that people love about the original while also bringing a fresh edge to the remake."

Even though it got poor reviews, Last Dragon did well at the boxoffice, grossing nearly $26 million. It soon became a cult classic for scenes like Bruce Lee follower Green remaining so loyal to the martial arts star that he eats his popcorn in a movie theater with chopsticks.
