Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster - Mmm, Nice Beaver.

Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster are getting back together 15 years after Maverick for the $18 million comedy The Beaver reports Variety.

Gibson will play a depressed man who finds solace in wearing a beaver hand-puppet. Kind of like Lars and the Real Girl. Steve Carell and Jim Carrey had both been interested in the role.

Foster will both direct the film and play the role of the man's wife. The actress brought the project to Gibson herself.

Kyle Killen penned the script which made last year's coveted Blacklist. Steve Golin and Keith Redmon will produce.

Shooting begins this September in New York City.

Gibson's going back to acting after directing, drinking and saying dodgy things. Foster is going back to directing after a bit of acting and sauciness in A Very Long Engagement.

Should be quite interesting to see how Gibson is received after his divorce and poor choice of words.

Mad Max 4 - The Interceptor is ready to roll once more

News on Mad Max 4 keeps coming and going. It has been knocking around for a while now. The most recent news back in March was that it was going to be done in a 3D anime style. The latest piece of news from the Herald Sun suggests that it will still be live action.

It has been almost 25 years since the third film but now it looks like director George Miller is getting ready to shoot the fourth film in the road warrior franchise.

Scouting for locations is apparantly under way for the movie, and it could go into production later this year.

It is doubtful that Mel Gibson will be back as Max though, as Miller has said on previous occasions:
"It won't be Mel. He was 21 when he made the first one, now he's a lot older and his passion is for film-making and directing," Miller said.

"I don't think he is into acting and I don't think he would be interested in being involved at all."
Miller suggested he was considering a new, young star.

As mentioned at the top of this post, Mad Max 4 rumours keep appearing, so I'm looking at this as just another rumour until it actually starts shooting.

In the meantime who would you like to see play Max (Jason Statham maybe - so suggests Pete R aka Inspector Gadget aka ExceedTron aka Man of a Million Faces) Should it carry on beyond Thunderdome? Does it have to be the same character or could it be his son or another character? Would a reboot be better?

Edge of Darkness - First look at Mel Gibson

Empire have the first picture of Mel Gibson in Edge of Darkness

As a detective (Gibson) investigates the death of his activist daughter, he uncovers not only her secret life, but a corporate cover-up and government collusion that attracts an agent tasked with cleaning up the evidence.

Edge of Darkness is directed by Martin Campbell (GoldenEye, The Mask of Zorro, Vertical Limit, Casino Royale, and the upcoming Green Lantern movie). The screenplay was co-written by Oscar winner William Monahan (Kingdom of Heaven, The Departed, Body of Lies) and Andrew Bovell (The Book of Revelation, Blessed). It is based on the brilliant BBC series that starred Bob Peck. The film was shot in and around Boston through early 2008 and is due out at some point this year.

Mad Max is hitting the road again...as a 3D Anime?

Some big screen animated Mad Max 4 action is shaping up to become a reality, according to George Miller, the writer/director of the previous three films. The catch? He doesn’t want Max himself, Mel Gibson, anywhere near the project.

“We’ll probably go a different route,” Miller told MTV News about the potential talent voicing the lead role. The plot would be partly lifted from the script of the fourth “Max” film, which was set to shoot in 2003 until financing collapsed in the wake of the Iraq War.

Now Miller is resurrecting the idea as an R-rated, stereoscopic anime flick for theatrical release. It’s a curious undertaking, to be sure, but one made all the more certain to happen after the runaway success in 2006 of his computer-animated “Happy Feet”—not that the newest, ever-violent “Max” film will have much in common with that kid-friendly penguin party.

“I see myself as someone who is very curious about storytelling and all its various media,” Miller said. “I’ve always loved anime, in particular the Japanese sensibility. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do.”

The project is one phase of a “Mad Max” renaissance of sorts. Along with “God of War II” designer Corey Barlog, Miller is developing an action-adventure videogame based on the fourth film. Gibson won’t be participating in that endeavor, either.

For the anime release, Miller isn’t looking simply to mimic Japanese-style animation but rather to adapt it for Western audiences. “The anime is an opportunity for me to shift a little bit about what anime is doing because anime is ripe for an adjustment or sea change,” he explained. “It’s coming in games and I believe it’s the same in anime. There’s going to be a hybrid anime where it shifts more towards Western sensibilities. [Japanese filmmaker Akira] Kurosawa was able to bridge that gap between the Japanese sensibilities and the West and make those definitive films.”

Well that's all a big surprise isn't it. Mad Max as an anime. Thinking about it I could see it working and could lead to some amazing visuals. Would you want to see Mad Max go anime on us?

The Colonel - Mel Gibson on Jimmy Kimmel

Mel is not having relations with Matt Damon, Ben Affleck or drinkl driving while saying stupid things he wished he hadn't. Instead he's being funny.

Are you ready for Mel to be brought back from the cold? What would you like Mel to do next?

Picture of Mel Gibson in Edge of Darkness

This photo of Mel Gibson looking moody while standing at a door was from CinemaBlend.

It's from the big screen version of the BBC series Edge of Darkness. Mel plays a policeman called Thomas Craven who while looking into the murder of his activist daughter uncovers not only her secret life, but a corporate cover-up and government collusion that attracts an agent tasked with cleaning up the evidence . The original had many shady dealings involving radioactive waste, ghosts, and strange black flowers. You can read more about the original series plot over on Wikipedia.

Ray Winstone is also in the film (playing the role that De Niro turned down) as a CIA agent who is assigned to cover up the murder. Martin Campbell (Goldeneye, The Mask of Zorro, Casino Royale) is directing it.

The original BBC series was a cracking show and I hope the film keeps the weirdness that developed throughout the series. Anyone else watch the original show? What did you think of it and what do you think the film will be like?

Lethal Weapon 5 - Mel says he is too old for that Shit!

/film have the news that original series director Richard Donner (via: the Los Angeles Times) has said that Gibson turned down the idea for Lethal Weapon 5 and the project is dead.

“Mel turned it down. I would like to think that Mel turned it down because I wasn’t involved. Knowing Mel, I would like to think that. Would that be the kind of thing he does? It sure would be,” Donner said. “It’s too bad, actually, because Channing Gibson, who wrote the fourth one, and Mike Riva, a designer on three of them, and myself and Derek [Hoffman, an associate at The Donner Company] had an incredibly strong story for the fifth movie. But we weren’t given the opportunity and I think maybe I could have convinced Mel to do it. But Warners chose to go with Joel Silver.”

Donner concluded “Yes, the project is pretty much dead in the water unless someone had the sense to come to me.”

So that appears to be the end of that. What do you think?

Lethal Weapon 5 is a definite go? I'm too old for this Shit and I'm probably the umpteenth site to use that

I mentioned a while ago that Lethal Weapon 5 was being written by the great Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang). It was very much a rumour but looks like things are moving ahead with it after all. IGN talked with actor Columbus Short who said that he was up for a role in the sequel and that the film is on the fast track at Warner Brothers. Short might play Murtaugh's son and hints that indeed both Mel Gibson and Danny Glover will be back.

Is it good or bad news that they are making another Lethal Weapon movie? I really hope they don't try and introduce a younger pair to take over the franchise at a later date.

This is so cool. "Eee Wants!" as my almost two year old daughter says.

Hope For a Better tomorrow t-shirt is available on Dutch Southern. The shirt features three retro future heros, Mel Gibson from Mad Max (The Road Warrior), Charlton Heston from Planet of the Apes, and Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken from Escape From New York.

Lethal Weapon 5? Shane Black writing it

It’s being reported by TrackingB that legendary screenwriter, Shane Black, has written a script for Lethal Weapon 5 and handed it over to his friend, the franchise’s producer Joel Silver. Moreover, the guys pictured above are said to be interested in reprising their roles as LAPD badges Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh. Coming Soon posted the following logline…

This time, homicidal Riggs (Mel Gibson) is about to retire, but pulls Murtaugh (Danny Glover) out of retirement to solve one final case, before they both officially head off into the sunset.

I'll keep you posted as and when I find out more.
