Johnny Depp appeared in the final moments of Burton's Alice presentation at Comic-Con on thursday. Burton referred to him as his imaginary friend who follows him everywhere. Depp walked onstage, screaming ensued and all he got to say was "Hey. Happy to be here."
I know that we have seen photos of them before but here are slightly more detailed pics of the costumes and look for Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland. Above is Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. Below is Mia Wasikowska as Alice (with a white rabbit no less) and Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen.
As previously mentioned this is more of a sequel to the original tale - Alice, now 17 years old, as she escapes from a snooty party and follows a white rabbit down a hole, back to Wonderland. The White Rabbit is convinced that he has the right girl, the one who had visited the magical land ten years prior. But Alice doesn’t remember her past visit to Wonderland. The creatures of Wonderland are ready to revolt and are hoping/waiting for Alice to help them, but will she? Can she?

Here are the Alice and Mad Hatter posters for Tim Burton's new Alice in Wonderland film. Basically, the photos that were released a week or two ago with some text on, but they do look nice. Thanks to Pam for taking the photos when she spotted them.
While talking at a recent press conference in LA for Public Enemies, Johnny Depp spoke about some of his other projects. Frosty of the excellent Collider got the details. Here is what Depp had to say about Dark Shadows, the remake of the old American TV show.“‘Dark Shadows’ is happening. Tim is working on ‘Alice in Wonderland’ which is obviously quite a large piece of work there. So when Tim is done with ‘Alice’ and we get the script, which is very, very close, in order we’ll probably attack it next year. It’s exciting, very exciting. It’s like a lifelong dream for me. I loved the show when I was a kid. I was obsessed with Barnabas Collins. I have photographs of me holding Barnabas Collins posters when I was five or six. I’m very excited to do it.”This also seems to confirm that Tim Burton is attached to direct as previous news cast doubt on that.
Well, certainly the book. The book is the basis for everything. There are little mysteries, little clues in the book that I found fascinating that were keys to at least my understanding of the Mad Hatter, like him saying, “I’m investigating that begin with the letter M.” That was huge for me because when you do a little digging you realize you’re talking about a hatter, a man who made hats and if you go back and look at some of the historical hatters there’s that term that this guy or that guy is as mad as a hatter. There was a reason for that and the reason for that was mercury poisoning. So I found out what the M was and why they went nuts. So that became a huge thing. Then it was just kind of what I saw and what I thought the guy should look like. I made my little weird drawings and water colors and brought them to Tim [Burton] and he brought me his weird little drawings and water colors and they were not dissimilar [laughs]. You could’ve put them right together and they were pretty darn close. There’s a lot of color and brightness and then de-saturation in The Hatter. There have been hints and teases as to how Tim Burton's adaption of the Lewis Caroll classic would look. There was nothing definite until now. Below are character posters of The Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter), The Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) and The White Queen (Anne Hathaway).
They finished shooting after just 40 days the live action is being merged with CG animation and motion-capture creatures, and then transferred into 3-D.
The traditional tale has been freshened with a blast of girl power, courtesy of writer Linda Woolverton (Beauty and the Beast). Alice, 17, attends a party at a Victorian estate only to find she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty society types. Off she runs, following a white rabbit into a hole and ending up in Wonderland, a place she visited 10 years before yet doesn't remember.
Mia Wasikowska plays Alice. In the top photo you can see the White Rabbit, voiced by Michael Sheen. All in all it is looking very nice. However, I've never been a fan of the story. One of those things that always irritated me a little. I will probably still go and see the film and will marvel at the look of it all, but it does not fill me with as much joy as it does some people.
There is a great interview with Alan Rickman over on The University Observer. He talks about many of his film roles, but in particular he mentions a little bit more about his role as the Caterpillar in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.“When selecting roles, you just try and do what you didn’t just do.”
It seems to be with this mantra in tow that Rickman chose his next role – a caterpillar. Rickman explains that he has joined the macabre circus that is Tim Burton’s distorted adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s fantastical tale, Alice in Wonderland, having worked with the eccentric director in the grisly musical, Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
Rickman explains that, as seems to be the norm with Burton, production for this work is nothing short of surreal. “Well, I believe what is going to happen is it will be my head on an animated caterpillar. I mean, Tim Burton just has a mind like a fairground. I aim to do everything he ever does. I am a crawling sycophant to him!”
Alice in Wonderland is set to be released in 2010, but Rickman relays the difficulties of working on a child’s film by saying, “Well, we’re fighting with Disney at the moment… They are worried about having a character [the caterpillar] that smokes,” he adds, dramatically rolling his eyes to heaven.

Don't think I have heard anything about the Newt, Rapunzel and The Bear and the Bow, but they all sound good. King of the Elves looks very interesting as, according to IMDB, it is based on a story by Philip K Dick. Wasn't aware of any such story, but a quick look on Wikipedia tells me the following:Based on Philip K. Dick's 1953 short story fantasy King of the Elves, the film is about a band of elves and one dwarf living in the modern-day Mississippi Delta who name a local man their king after he helps save them from an evil trollSounds cool.
Warner Bros.' big screen version of the TV vampire soap opera cult classic Dark Shadows, starring Johnny Depp as vampire Barnabas Collins, is reportedly gearing up for production, but the schedule of its rumored director Tim Burton appears to have impacted the project. MTV recently caught up with Sam Sarkar, director of development for Depp's production company Infinitum, who advised them that Dark Shadows "is very active. ... The studio will be making some announcements regarding it pretty soon. Very soon, probably."Thanks to Pam for sending me this.
Sarkar was coy, however, when asked about Burton, neither confirming nor denying his involvement with the project. The reason for that appears to lie in Wonderland.
Deadline Hollywood Daily reports that the start date for filming Dark Shadows may have to be postponed because of production on Burton's Alice in Wonderland, also starring Depp, which Disney has slated for release on March 5, 2010. Unfortunately, Warners has already reserved studio space to shoot Dark Shadows, with a Depp insider telling DHD, "It is our intention to still start the movie in the fall. We're trying to work it out. ... And Tim Burton is Johnny's first and only choice to direct."
D23 is a Disney fan club that launched earlier this week and as part of a membership, you get a subscription to their quarterly magazine filled with photography and articles on all-things Disney. Featured in this first issue is an article on Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, which is currently in-production aiming for a March 5th, 2010 release. It included these photos that give us our first proper glimpse at the new adaption.

I've never been a big fan of the Alice in Wonderland tale, but I love many of Tim Burton's other films and he has got a great cast involved so I'll definitely give it a watch when it comes out. All in all it is shaping up to be a most curious piece of film.

Lucky people who own stock in Disney got a couple of sneak peaks at upcoming features according to Dark Horizons.
I just think that this is a wonderful piece of artwork - Guillaume Dubois's "Alice's Adventures in Steamland," one of the winners in the CGSociety's "Steampunk: Myths & Legends" competition which also included "Steamnocchio", "Don Quixote: Suppressor of engines" and "Legend of Yamato"Not only is it a great short film by Spencer Susser, but it also stars Mia Wasikowska who is playing Alice in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.
