The trailer for David Tennant's last episodes of Dr. Who, The End Of Time, have been seen. io9 describes it as this - Spoilers ahead:

We see the planet Earth from space, with the sun coming out behind it, and Timothy Dalton's voice purrs: "It is said that in the final days of the planet Earth, everyone had bad dreams." And then we see weird laughing faces, followed by David Tennant looking quite perturbed. We see glimpses of Wilf, Donna, Donna's mother, and an African man in a suit, all looking very serious. And there's a scary snake-faced creature. And then there's a figure in a dark hoodie lurking ominously. Dalton narrates: "He returns." We catch a glimpse of Ood Sigma, the Ood who told the Doctor his song was ending. And then the Doctor standing in the background, with the guy in a hoodie in the foreground. And then the hoodie comes off, and it's John Simm with his hair weirdly bleached! His voice comes: "My name is the Master." And then a title comes on the screen: "THE END OF TIME." And the Doctor walks forward with flames in the background, his face looking smoky and serious. And the title says "CHRISTMAS 2009." And the crowd goes wild.

Dr Who - A look at the new Sonic Screwdriver and other things

Here are some new photos from the Dr Who shoot. They include our first look at the new sonic screwdriver, Matt Smith as the Doctor, Alex Kingston as River Song and Karen Gillan as the new companion.
The sonic screwdriver looks a little sleeker than the old one. I wonder if the old one has been upgraded and passed to River Song?
io9 had the photos and they mention that the wreckage is a ship called the Byzantium - River Song mentions the crash of the Byzantium when she meets David Tennant's Doctor.



Not sure if Matt Smith is in character in the photo above or if he has just messed up his lines.

The Hobbit - Who will be Bilbo? Dr Who, Harry Potter or Mr Tumnus?

Rumour has it that the name of the lead star in Guillermo del Toro's The Hobbit will be announced next week at Comic-Con International.

Names recently mentioned in the running are David Tennant (Dr Who), Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and James McAvoy (Wanted, The Last King of Scotland). Sadly Ian Holm who played Bilbo in The Lord of The Rings is not in the running.

I don't really see any of the trio being Bilbo, they're all a little skinny and heading down the Elijah Wood as Frodo look.

However, if I had to pick I would like to see Tennant. To go from the Doctor to The Hobbit would be amazing.

This also seems like it could be the most likely if you look at what is happening at this years Comic Con.

David Tennant is making his very first trip to the San Diego expo to promote Doctor Who, a television series that he will soon be leaving behind. Peter Jackson, the producer of the two-film "Hobbit" series due out in 2011 is also meant to be appearing at the Comic Con. Coincedence?

David Tennant is heading back to school

David Tennant (Dr Who) is playing the villainous Pomfrey in the new St Trinians 2 movie, which started filming today.

St Trinians was a series of cartoons created by Gerard Searle who also illustrated the Molesworth cartoons. They portrayed a British girls private school who practiced torture on each other, teachers and any other unfortunate passers-by. They were adapted into a series of films in the fifties and sixties and spawned a recent Gemma Arterton, Russell Brand-starring remake.

The film also stars Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding, and both Rupert Everett and Colin Firth reprieve their roles from the earlier film.

UPDATED: Could we be seeing the new Doctor Who sooner than we think?

The Daily Mirror is claiming that Matt Smith and the first ten Doctors will all appear in a special 15-minute episode filmed for the BBC's Children In Need charity night. The episode will air in November, and the first three Doctors, the late William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee, will be represented by footage from their old stories. A BBC source supposedly tells the Mirror:

This is a momentous episode for all Doctor Who fans. Never before have all the Doctors been in the same room, let alone in the same show. It's been a logistical nightmare getting all the actors together and available for shooting on the same days. But the script has already been started and it's classic Doctor Who – really witty and very sharp. Viewers will see the Time Lords regenerating and emerging one by one from the Tardis, each with their own quirky opening line. David Tennant is the central character in the episode. He's trying to hunt down some special time travel apparatus. What he's actually lost has not yet been decided, but the idea is for all the other Doctors to club together to help David find it. The actors who are no longer with us, William, Jon and Patrick, will make special cameo appearances, with footage from original shows being flashed up on screen. It's a really exciting project – and all for a good cause.

UPDATE: Looks as if the BBC are denying this story A spokesman told the newspaper: "Nothing has been finalised yet, although there is discussion of a Children in Need Doctor Who special. It is too early to say what."

Dr Who - The guest star rumours are true

The photo above confirms a few rumours that have been knocking about regarding David Tennant's final few episodes of Doctor Who. Apologies for any spoilers.

As you can see both Timothy Dalton and John Sim are with Tennant between takes. Presumably Sim will be back as The Master, although as he died, or that version of him died, in a previous series then I am not sure what he could be doing. Mind you it did end with a Ming the Merciless style picking up the ring thing.

It looks as if Dalton is dressed up in some Time Lord finery (although that's not definite) so it may mean the Time Lords are coming back or maybe he will be in some flashbacks featuring the young Doctor and The Master.

Any theories on what could happen? Whatever the story will be it is good to know that some class actors will be guest starring for David Tennants last few days as a Time Lord. It is going to be sad to see him go.

The Eleventh Doctor Who may have a new companion

19-year-old Hannah Murray is tipped to be the companion in next year's fifth season of "Doctor Who" says The News Of The World.

Murray, who plays OCD-suffering Cassie Ainsworth on the raunchy British teenage drama series "Skins", will join Matt Smith's eleventh 'The Doctor' in the TARDIS when it returns in 2010.

The news comes not long after word that the number of planned specials for this year, starring David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor, looks to have been shrunk. Instead of three or four there will only be two - the Easter episode "Planet of the Dead" and the Christmas Episode. A third special has been pushed back into early 2010 (though could be a New Year's Day special).

'Planet', co-starring Michelle Ryan ("Bionic Woman," "Jekyll"), involves a mysterious thief who ends up tagging along with the Doctor and leads to a 'shocking event' in his life. It was partially shot in Dubai and will air next month.

"Rome" actress Lindsay Duncan stars as the companion in the Christmas episode which sees the return of the Ood and will borrow elements from the novel 'Who' tie-in novel "The Highest Science". Model Gemma Chan will also star in the production which is currently filming.

The third special kicks off shooting at the end of the month. Set on Mars, it will include Aussie actor Peter O'Brien as the villain, and will serve as David Tennant's final story.

In an interesting coincidence, Matt Smith and Hannah Murray played brother and sister while Lindsay Duncan played their mother in the West End tour of the acclaimed play "That Face" last year.

New Dr Who and Bond girl go back to the Womb

Eva Green has signed to star in the futuristic drama Womb, Hungarian helmer Benedek Fliegauf’s first English-language film.

Produced by Roman Paul and Gerhard Meixner of Berlin-based Razor Film (“Waltz With Bashir”) and Andras Muhi of Inforg Studio Budapest, pic tells the story of a grieving widow, played by Green, who decides to clone her late husband. Matt Smith (who will replace David Tennant in the BBC’s “Dr. Who”) co-stars.

Fliegauf, who won a Golden Leopard in Locarno in 2007 for his experimental pic Milky Way, will begin production on the film in March on the North Sea coast.

“Womb is one of the most touching and impressive love stories we have read in recent times,” said Michael Weber, managing director of the Match Factory, which is handling international sales on the pic.

Is it just me or does that story sound familiar. Woman clones her dead husband....can't think why it's reminding me of something. Could it be Multiplicity where Michael Keaton clones himself to do jobs around the house...with hilarious consequences? Nope that's not it.

Think it must be some old school sci-fi story that has been absorbed into my brain box over the years. Maybe an old Tales of the Unexpected or a Future Shock from 2000AD. Anyone got any ideas what I'm getting at?

UPDATED: New Dr Who named today

The name of the actor who will replace David Tennant in Doctor Who will be announced today in the 5:35pm Dr Who Confidential on BBC1. I still think it will be Paterson Joseph as I mentioned back in October (here is some footage as to why he would be a great Doctor).

Tennant said in October that he would stand down from the show after filming four special episodes in 2009.

The casting was confirmed over Christmas and filming for the 2010 series begins in the summer.

Tennant is due to begin shooting the first of his four specials this month, just weeks after surgery on his back.

David Tennant says he is envious of his replacement, whose 'life will change'

The last of these episodes is expected to run in early 2010.

The casting decision has been a priority for the show's new creative team, led by executive producers Steven Moffat and Piers Wenger.

The BBC said that in Saturday's Doctor Who special "the actor playing the new Doctor will be giving his or her initial reaction" to becoming TV's most famous time traveller.

Wenger, head of drama at BBC Wales, said: "We believe the actor is going to bring something very special to the role and will make it absolutely their own.

"I just can't wait to tell everyone who it is - it has been a nail-biting Christmas trying to keep this under wraps!"

Shortly after Tennant's announcement, bookmakers were tipping several well-known names as the next actor (or actress) to step into the Tardis.

Murphy's Law and Cold Feet star James Nesbitt emerged as one of the favourites, along with Paterson Joseph, John Simm and David Morrissey - who appeared in the 2008 Christmas special.

Paterson Joseph, who recently starred in Survivors and appeared in two Doctor Who episodes in 2005, has said "any actor would love the challenge" of playing the Time Lord.

Bookmakers made him an early favourite - offering odds of 3-1 on him becoming the first black Doctor.

Comedian Jennifer Saunders, former Doctor Who assistant Billie Piper and film star Catherine Zeta Jones have also been mentioned in connection with the role.

The show's outgoing executive producer Russell T Davies said last month: "Whoever becomes the Doctor has got to take on a whole life. It's not just becoming a part of a TV show."

In October, when Tennant was asked who he thought should replace him, he joked: "Well, I've always been a big supporter of Wee Jimmy Krankie!"

Doctor Who began in 1963, and seven actors played the Doctor before the show was dropped in 1989.

After a TV movie in 1996 - starring Paul McGann - the TV series returned in 2005 with Christopher Eccleston in the lead role. Tennant took over the role the same year.

Dr Who Christmas Special Radio Times Cover

Here are David Morrisey, David Tennant as The Doctor and Dervla Kirwan as Miss Hartigan on the cover of the Radio Times. Dervla has taken time off from the Marks and Spencers adverts! Looks as if the two Davids are using the Force or snowboarding. Good to see the Cybermen will be back, but not sure why one of them appears to be wearing the Cyber equivelant of a Domino Mask. Maybe it's a superhero Cyberman! Looking forward to the Christmas Special. Here is the trailer for the Christmas Special with our first look at the furry feral Cybermen.

Lying in the Gutters have more on the Dr Who news.

So was David Tennant's leaving the show all down to his need to move on? A now or never thing? Not quite. He had been in negotiations with the BBC for a fifth, even a sixth full series, but wanted another 2009-lite Doctor Who break in 2011, a film pursued, and money above the current BBC wage cap. It didn't happen.

The one bigger casualty, as well as casting for The Doctor sooner than expected, has been an arc in Series Five for the River Song character, revealed in Series 4 as the Doctor's possible future wife. Arc plans are being rewritten, but the new team has plenty of time...

As for Paterson Joseph, the positive response that rumour has received has pleased a lot of people, especially the lack of expected "you can't have a black Doctor" responses.

I hear that Paterson Joseph, Sean Pertwee and Marc Warren are the three main contenders. But that right now Paterson is still the favourite.

But I'd also like to remind all and sundry that, according to "Doctor Who Magazine" editor Clayton Hickman, Bill Nighy was Russell T Davies' favourite for the role back in 2005. And that went nowhere.

Tennant to quit the TARDIS

David Tennant has announced that he is vacating the Tardis and leaving the BBC's Dr Who series at the end of next year.

Tennant's decision brings to an end his popular four-year tenure as the time lord.

The BBC confirmed that the actor will complete the filming of four special episodes to be screened this year and in early 2010 as well as 2009's Christmas special.

Tennant, who is the tenth incarnation of the immortal time-traveller, has starred in three series and three Christmas specials.

He has drawn praise for his reprisal of the role after Christopher Eccleston left in 2005.

He said: "I've had the most brilliant, bewildering and life changing time working on Doctor Who. I have loved every day of it.

"It would be very easy to cling on to the Tardis console forever and I fear that if I don't take a deep breath and make the decision to move on now, then I simply never will.

"This is all a long way off, of course. I'm not quitting, I'm back in Cardiff in January to film four special episodes which will take Dr Who all the way through 2009.

He added: "I feel very privileged to have been part of this incredible phenomenon, and whilst I'm looking forward to new challenges I know I'll always be very proud to be the Tenth Doctor."

Looks like that rumour saying Paterson Joseph is to be the next Doctor may have some truth in it. What do you think?

The next Dr Who could be....?

Lying in the Gutters have a rumour on who could possibly be the next Doctor.

The sixth series of “Doctor Who” (2011) will star Paterson Joseph as The Doctor.

Previously playing Roderick in the “Doctor Who” episodes “Bad Wolf”/”Parting Of Ways,” Joseph is known for fine upstanding and terribly-well-spoken-dontcha-know roles as Johnson in “Peep Show<,” the Marquis De Carabas in “Neverwhere,” Space Marshall Clarke in “Hyperdrive,” Lyndon in “Green Wing”…

…and more importantly Benjamin in “Jekyll.” Written and produced by upcoming “Doctor” Who showrunner, Steven Moffat.

If true, it’s a great call on Moffat’s part. A damn fine call. Paterson has a very British Authority approach to many of his characters, comparable with Jon Pertwee. It’s not a traditional choice, but then neither was Christopher Eccleston. And, like I say, it’s bloody brilliant.

I posted another article the other day that mentioned David Tennant would love to stay on as the Doctor. However, Lying in the Gutters are usually on the ball (although they do mention this is still very much unconfirmed). I have to agree with their view though. Paterson would be a pretty cool Doctor. The fact he also starred in Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere and Gaiman is meant to be writing for Dr Who next year may also be a factor. What do you think of the rumour?

Patrick Stewart to be in next series of Dr Who. David Morrisey will be the Other Doctor in the Christmas Special

According to a report in the UK’s Daily Star, Stewart has reportedly been offered the role of the Meddling Monk, a Time Lord once featured on the series. Apparently the BBC has offered him the role and are willing to wait for Stewart's schedule to clear so it may happen for one of the 2009 specials or the new season beginning in 2010.

British fans have been treated to David Tennant, the current Doctor, and Stewart, formerly known as Captain Jean-Luc Picard, performing Hamlet together. The two have become fast friends and Stewart is an avowed fan of the series.

The Monk was introduced as someone who encountered the first Doctor, back in the early 1960s. As portrayed by Peter Butterworth, he was a comical fellow and appeared in two stories, “The Time Meddler” and “The Daleks’ Master”. The character disappeared from screen but has been used in other media through the years.

Velile Tshabalala has revealed several details about her 'companion' character in the forthcoming Doctor Who Christmas special 'The Next Doctor'. Speaking to the West Sussex Gazette, the former Tittybangbang and Kerching! actress stated that Rosita is "an East Londoner, very Cockney". She revealed that Rosita "is the assistant to the other Doctor", played by David Morrissey, "but as the episode goes on she starts helping The Doctor", as played by David Tennant.

Will Tennant be Dr Who for Longer?

Rumours are going around that David Tennant is about to sign a deal making him the Dr until 2010. The BBC have apparantly offered him a substantial wad to keep him in the role and I'm sure many fans, including my son, will be overjoyed with the news. Just waiting for confirmation that he has definitely signed up. When he does he'll be back working with Steven Moffat on the new series.

Dr Who - A theory as to how it may end.

I know this is a site for all things relating to the world of film. However, at a stretch (and as it is my site) I really must mention the recent episode of Dr Who, The Stolen Earth. Beware, spoilers ahoy.

For those of you who saw it you will know that it was a glorious mess. Torchwood, Sarah Jane, Martha Jones, Rose Tyler all made an appearance and it resulted in a blinder of a cliff hanger. If it goes the obvious way then the BBC and David Tennant have managed to keep this under their hats so well. Basically, the Doctor gets shot by a Dalek and the episode ends with him beginning to regenerate. However, as it is a Russell T Davies episode and he likes his reset buttons (maybe the Osterhagen Key mentioned in this episode) we shall have to wait and see.

The point of this post is to give my idea as to what is going to happen. Firstly, I'll just list a few things from within the series. This episode made a point of reminding us that the Doctor's hand (which had been cut off in The Christmas Invasion) was still on board the TARDIS. There have also been mentions throughout the series that Donna is more important than we realise. Dalek Caan mentioned the Threefold Man and the fact there will be everlasting death for the most faithful companion (out of the current crop of companions I'm going to say Donna is the most faithful as she has never left, or it could be K-9). Donna zoned out at one point during the last episode and we heard the slow beat of a drum or footsteps getting closer, she was also wearing a large ring. This all ties in with the previous appearance of the Master.

Outside the series there have been rumours that John Simm would be returning as the Doctor and apparently Peter Davison and Sylvester McCoy were on Dr Who Confidential.

Okay all that's done. My theory is that the Master is coming back and is either Donna or is using her as a host. As the Doctor regenerates the Master will absorb this energy and return condemning Donna to an everlasting death. This would mean the Doctor is effectively dead. However, his hand may be effected by the regeneration and basically regenerate the Tenth Doctor (this could also side step the fact Time Lord's can only regenerate a limited number of times, basically resetting the clock) who will step in and save the day. However, the regeneration may be effected by the Master and bring back various aspects of the Doctor (the Threefold Man) meaning we could see the a few familiar faces as mentioned about.

Just a theory and we've got to wait a few more days to see. What do you think?
