Prince of Persia - A photo of Sir Ben Kingsley as the bad guy of the piece

Yesterday I posted some new posters for the video game adaption of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.

Now ComingSoon have a photo of Sir Ben Kingsley as the villainous Nizam in the same almost black and white colour scheme.

It says that it is the first photo of Kingsley as the character but I assume they mean first official one as I posted a photo of him as Nizam doing the pointy dance back in October last year.

Mike Newell is directing. Jake Gyllenhaal will play Dastan, a young prince in sixth century Persia who must join forces with Tamina (Gemma Arterton), a feisty and exotic princess, to prevent an evil nobleman (Kingsley) from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world. Alfred Molina and Toby Kebbell also star.

Prince of Persia - New photo

It has been a while but here is another look at Jake Gyllenhaal, playing Prince Dastan in Jerry Bruckheimer's epic Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, due out on 28th May 2010. The film also stars Ben Kingsley and Gemma Arteton.

It looks a little better than previous photos.

Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island - Trailer

The story of two U.S. marshals, Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo), who are summoned to a remote and barren island off the cost of Massachusetts to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a murderess from the island's fortress-like hospital for the criminally insane.

But nothing at Ashecliffe Hospital is what it seems. And neither is Teddy Daniels. Is he there to find a missing patient? Or has he been sent to look into rumors of Ashecliffe’s radical approach to psychiatry? The closer Teddy and Chuck get to the truth, the more elusive it becomes, and the more they begin to believe that they may never leave Shutter Island. Because someone is trying to drive them insane. . .

Directed by Scorsese this is looking very good and a bit Hitchcockian methinks.

As well as the two main leads it also stars Ben Kingsley, Emily Mortimer, Michelle Williams, Max von Sydow, and Jackie Earle Haley. Let me know what you think of the trailer.

Prince of Persia - Actual footage from the new film

It has been a while since there has been anything mentioned about the Prince of Persia film but now here is some footage from the Jerry Bruckheimer film. It is directed by Mike Newell.

In the film, Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal), a young prince in sixth century Persia, must join forces with Tamina (Gemma Arterton), a feisty and exotic princess, to prevent a villainous nobleman from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is due out on 28 May, 2010.

Shutter Island - Teaser poster for Martin Scorsese's next film

RopeofSilicon user “Friends of Eddie” last sent in scans from Cahiers du Cinéma’s January 2009 edition with a diary written by Argentinean filmmaker Celine Murga based on her experiences on the set of Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island and today he returns with a piece of teaser art from the film scanned out of the Berliner Zeitung newspaper as part of a story about TMG/Concorde, the film’s distributor.

Since it is a scan you can slightly see some of the words bleeding through on the lighter areas but for the most part it is a top quality image, but I can’t help get the feeling it is still an early piece of artwork since the font used to write “Whatever happened to patient 67?” on the wall is just a generic font and isn’t exactly up to final art quality.

Shutter Island is currently due out on October 2 and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, Max von Sydow, Patricia Clarkson, Emily Mortimer and Jackie Earle Haley. The official site is also live, but merely with placeholder information.

50 Cent to replace Forest Whittaker in Stallone's The Expendables

Filming for The Expendables had to be pushed back a month which meant Forest Whitaker had to bow out to due to scheduling conflicts. Sylvester Stallone sent these letters over to AICN. The first one mentions the various character names and points out that Curtis Jackson (50 Cent) has replaced Forest Whitaker in the film.

Needless to say this caused a whole heap of WTF so Stallone sent the second letter explaining the decision.

send to you because I have the same loyalty to your site as well. Anyway, it
might temper preconceived opinions.

Dear Craig,

I appreciate the incredible amount of work you've done on my behalf. Please
tell the loyal followers to be positive not negative in their feedback. I am
not self-destructive. The anger of the casting of 50 Cent is understandable,
but not fair. A player is only as good as his coach. If a man can
communicate in one medium, he can communicate in another if his strengths
are brought out and he has the support of well-wishers. So, trust me, the
change of Forest Whitaker to 50 Cent AKA Curtis Jackson is a good one. No
one thought Dolph Lundgren was a good choice for ROCKY or Mr. T. Carl
Weathers was an afterthought when Ken Naughton fell out. The same with Talia
Shire and Richard Crenna, who was known as a comedic actor, not a serious
one.

Nobody wanted Eric Roberts over Ben Kingsley, but I believe it's a vastly
improved casting. The point is, you either believe in me and the project,
setting your personal feelings aside, or you take a darker approach, which
really serves no purpose since your insight and suggestions and overall
enthusiasm are a great thrill for me to behold everyday I sign on.

Oh well, he does stand by his decision. Pity Whitaker can't be in it. I've never seen 50 Cent in one of his acting roles so I'm not really in a position to comment. Do you think he is a good choice for the film or has Stallone dropped the ball on this one?

Mickey Rourke is one of The Expendables

It was mentioned the other day that Sir Ben Kinglsey was cast in Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables and today comes the great news (via /film who also put together that cool photo I think) that Mickey Rourke will join the crew of Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Randy Couture, Dolph Lundgren, and Forest Whitaker.

The team is sent to infiltrate a South American country to overthrow the ruthless dictator and liberate the country. According to Variety, Rourke will play “an unscrupulous arms dealer who becomes the go-to guy for the group of mercenaries”. Principal photography is set to begin in Brazil and Louisiana in March.

ET has some footage from the set of the new Prince of Persia movie starring Jake Gyllenhall as the Prince.

'Pirates of the Caribbean' blockbuster producer Jerry Bruckheimer is bringing 'Prince of Persia' to life, based on the hugely popular video game and scheduled to open in theaters on May 28, 2010. The story finds Jake as Dastan, a young Persian prince who must join forces with the beautiful and feisty princess Tamina (played by 'Quantum of Solace' Bond girl Gemma Arterton) to prevent a villainous nobleman (Ben Kingsley) from possessing the Sands of Time -- a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.

"I'm running away from family and I'm running away from bad guys and I'm trying to prove my innocence," says Jake, trying to keep the play-by-play plot details a secret. "There's so many extraordinary elements throughout the movie."

Script Review for Prince of Persia is out.

First Showing have a review of the full script of the Prince of Persia movie starring Jake Gyllenhall. It contains lots and lots of spoilers but it sounds pretty good. Here's a little on what they have to say about it.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time feels like it could be a great adventure story. There are plenty of amazing action sequences, a decent plot and some really fun time travel sequences. Think Pirates of the Caribbean action, Kingdom of Heaven setting, and a dash of Back to the Future. It's got a solid plot and is going to be really fun to watch. The characters are all believable and entertaining. The action is top notch. However, there are times when the writers decided to make Dastan do something completely unbelievable. Rather than thinking of how cool it would look, I was more inclined to roll my eyes at the absurdity of it all. These moments are rare and small blemishes on what I think is going to be an entertaining movie.

I am concerned that these moments may also resonate with other questionable choices being made for this film, notably the lead casting choice. In the script, Dastan is described as a lean and athletic Persian man. But starring as Dastan is the blatantly American Jake Gyllenhaal who, in leaked set pictures, looks less "lean and athletic" and more like he's been filling his eclairs with horse steroids. Personally, I can't see the hulking Gyllenhaal performing realistic wall running stunts and acrobatic flips. Are the filmmakers going for adventure fantasy or a rough historical epic adventure? This is the confusion that I think could pull audiences out of the story, which is sad because it's really a great story. It might not exactly be groundbreaking storytelling (in essence, an uncle kills a king to get the throne as a young prince struggles with it all - Hamlet anyone?), but it's damn good entertainment.

Disney has touted this film as the next Pirates of the Caribbean, and it very well could be. What Prince of Persia lacks in vividly memorable characters like Captain Jack Sparrow, it makes up for with tons of entertaining eye candy action. Free running sequences like those seen in the beginning of Casino Royale have become extremely popular, and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is full of them. Just imagine the combination of free running and sword fighting (because sword fighting is always cool!) - if the stunt coordinators can make it look visceral and real, we've got a great treat on our hands. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is going to be fun, unbelievable at times, but very, very fun.

Sir Ben Kingsley as Nizam in Prince of Persia

Here is a first look at Sir Ben Kingsley as the villainous Nizam from the 2010 Prince of Persia. Looks like he's doing the pointy dance or YMCA. Who knows! It's another off set in costume photo like the one we had a while ago of Jake Gyllenhall as the Prince. Nothing actually on set althought we did have some set photos as well. Just need some of Gemma Arterton in costume as Tamina now for the main three parts to be complete.

Jude Law as Watson...Maybe. Could be Billy Zane though

Variety have a tale to tell. That tale is that Jude Law will be appearing as Watson in the Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes movie opposite Robert Downey Jr. This may well be refuted in the near future, but for the minute it is good to go. I personally can't really see Jude Law as Watson. If anything he has more of the look of Holmes and Downey Jr looks more like a Watson. Plus Michael Caine played Holmes opposite Ben Kingsley's Watson and Jude Law appears to be slowly acting in every role Caine ever played (Alfie, Sleuth). Give it a few days and we shall see what's what. The game's afoot.

Jude Law is negotiating to join Robert Downey Jr. in "Sherlock Holmes," the drama that Guy Ritchie will direct for Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures.

Law is expected to close a deal shortly to play Watson, the super-sleuth's sidekick.
Joel Silver, Lionel Wigram, Susan Downey and Dan Lin are producing. Production begins early next month in London.

The film will incorporate the classic tales written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, as well as the comic book "Sherlock Holmes." Studio is still casting some of the principal roles, including the villain, Blackwood.

Transsiberian - Poster and Trailer

I think this is a great poster. Doesn't tell you much about the movie, but gives you a sense of space and foreboding. I always meant to do the Transsiberian railway after finishing university, but never got around to it. Still always time for that.

An American couple, Roy (Woody Harrelson) and Jessie (Emily Mortimer), decide to
take the long way home from their recent sojourn in Asia on the legendary Trans-siberian Express train from Beijing to Moscow. On their way, they meet another couple from the West, Carlos (Eduardo Noriega) and Abby (Kate Mara), with whom they quickly form a familiar bond that often unites fellow travellers away from home. When Roy accidentally gets separated from the group at a stopover, Jessie begins to realize that their compatriots aren't exactly who or
what they seem to be. The real danger begins to surface as a deceitful Russian detective (Sir Ben Kingsley) and locals terrorize Jessie in this unforgettable journey.

The Wackness - Poster and Trailer

This is a coming of age summertime movie set in 1994, directed by Jonathan Levine, and due out pretty soon. It stars the Josh kid from Drake & Josh (I've got kids!), who got realy thin, as Luke who spends his last summer before college selling dope in New York. He also trades it with his shrink played by Ben Kingsley. It also stars Famke Janssen, Mary-Kate Olsen and Method Man. You can check out the opening scene here.

It also has a cracking 90's Hip Hop soundtrack for all you music fan types out there. Here's the red band trailer. Looks pretty good.
