Prince of Persia - Some action shots

We are starting to see more and more of Mike Newell's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Luckily, they are getting more exciting as time goes.

These photos actually show the Prince in action. Jake Gyllenhall and Gemma Arterton jumping over walls. Empire debuted the pics. What do you think of them?

Prince of Persia - A photo of Sir Ben Kingsley as the bad guy of the piece

Yesterday I posted some new posters for the video game adaption of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.

Now ComingSoon have a photo of Sir Ben Kingsley as the villainous Nizam in the same almost black and white colour scheme.

It says that it is the first photo of Kingsley as the character but I assume they mean first official one as I posted a photo of him as Nizam doing the pointy dance back in October last year.

Mike Newell is directing. Jake Gyllenhaal will play Dastan, a young prince in sixth century Persia who must join forces with Tamina (Gemma Arterton), a feisty and exotic princess, to prevent an evil nobleman (Kingsley) from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world. Alfred Molina and Toby Kebbell also star.

Check out these excellent posters for the video game based film. Jake Gyllenhall looks like the Prince for the first time and Gemma Arterton looks like she is on the cover of a magazine. What do you think of them?

It has been a while but here is another look at Jake Gyllenhaal, playing Prince Dastan in Jerry Bruckheimer's epic Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, due out on 28th May 2010. The film also stars Ben Kingsley and Gemma Arteton.

It looks a little better than previous photos.

Entertainment Weekly
debuted the photo.

David Tennant is heading back to school

David Tennant (Dr Who) is playing the villainous Pomfrey in the new St Trinians 2 movie, which started filming today.

St Trinians was a series of cartoons created by Gerard Searle who also illustrated the Molesworth cartoons. They portrayed a British girls private school who practiced torture on each other, teachers and any other unfortunate passers-by. They were adapted into a series of films in the fifties and sixties and spawned a recent Gemma Arterton, Russell Brand-starring remake.

The film also stars Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding, and both Rupert Everett and Colin Firth reprieve their roles from the earlier film.

Photo of Gemma Arteton on the set of Clash of the Titans

This is the first photo of actress Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace) in costume on the set of Louis Leterrier's Clash of the Titans as a new character called Io. The photo was debuted on Gemma Arterton Online.

Born of a god but raised as a man, Perseus (Sam Worthington) is helpless to save his family from Hades (Ralph Fiennes), vengeful god of the underworld. With nothing left to lose, Perseus volunteers to lead a mission to defeat Hades before he can seize power from Zeus (Liam Neeson) and unleash hell on earth. Leading a daring band of warriors, Perseus sets off on a journey deep into forbidden worlds. Battling unholy demons and fearsome beasts, he will only survive if he can accept his power as a god, defy his fate and create his own destiny. Louis Leterrier is directing from a script by Lawrence Kasdan (Raiders of the Lost Ark).

The photo doesn't really tell us much, but I am looking forward to seeing more from the film.

Holy Zeus' beard! Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes join Clash of the Titans

Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes will play warring gods in Warner Bros. and Legendary's "Clash of the Titans," the Greek-god epic directed by Louis Leterrier.

Neeson is playing Zeus, the wise yet sometimes ill-tempered king of the gods and father of Perseus (Sam Worthington).

Fiennes will play Hades, ruler of the underworld who aims to overtake Zeus and rule over all. Fiennes' deal is in still in negotiations.

The two actors join Mads Mikkelsen, Gemma Arterton and Alexa Davalos in the production, which begins shooting later this month in the U.K.

Legendary is co-producing and co-financing the pic. Thunder Road's Basil Iwanyk is producing with Kevin de la Noy. Jon Jashni and Thomas Tull are executive producing.

The deal marks Neeson's first since the tragic death of his wife, Natasha Richardson. The deal was initiated before her death. His film "Taken," released earlier this year, has proven to be a surprise hit, earning almost $140 million domestically.

Fiennes last starred in "The Reader."

Neeson as Zeus is a brilliant idea. Fiennes just has to bring his Voldermort attire and he's sorted.

Mads Mikkelsen and Alexa Davalos hear the Clash of The Titans

I posted the news about Gemma Arteton joining the cast a few days ago but now some more casting news has surfaced.
Mads Mikkelsen, Gemma Arterton and Alexa Davalos are boarding "Clash of the Titans," the Greek-god epic being directed by Louis Leterrier.

Sam Worthington is toplining as Perseus, who is put on a quest to save a princess and defeat Hades, the god of hell. Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay wrote the script.

Mikkelsen is playing Draco, a skilled fighter and leader of the Praetorian Guard that accompanies Perseus.

Davalos is Andromeda, the captured princess, and Arterton is Io, who is instrumental in bringing the winged horse Pegasus to Perseus.

Legendary is co-producing and co-financing the pic, which is set to begin lensing in the U.K. at the end of April. Thunder Road's Basil Iwanyk is producing with Kevin de la Noy. Jon Jashni and Thomas Tull are executive producing.

Lynn Harris and Matt Milam are overseeing for Warners.

Mikkelsen, one of Denmark's most recognizable faces, is best known to American audiences for his role of the villain in "Casino Royale." Repped by UTA and Danish agent Ulrich Moller-Jorgensen, the actor stars in Eurowide Film's "Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky."

Arterton, who appeared in the James Bond film "Quantum of Solace," next appears in Richard Curtis' "The Boat That Rocked" and opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in Disney's "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time." She is repped by UK's Independent Talent Group.

ICM-repped Davalos was most recently seen in "Defiance." Other credits include "The Mist," "Feast of Love" and "The Chronicles of Riddick."

Gemma Arteton to star in Clash of the Titans remake

Gemma Arterton is set to star as the demi-goddess Io in Louis Leterrier’s forthcoming remake of Clash Of The Titans. Arterton showed up at the Jameson Empire Awards to pick up the Best Newcomer award. She spoke to Empire magazine about the sword and sandals remake.

“My part is... the coolest part,” she laughed. “Io’s not in the original film. Perseus falls in love with her and then [CENSORED FOR TINY SPOILER]. It’s a really great part.”

According to Arterton, though, Io’s presence isn’t the only thing about the movie, which is, of course, a reimagining of the 1981 Harry Hamlin ‘classic’ in which Perseus embarks upon an epic quest, part of which involves killing the evil Medusa and the dreaded Kraken.

“The script is very different,” she continued. “Obviously the story is the story, but it’s much more about Perseus’ mission, and how he deals with being the son of Zeus, and things like that, so it feels a little more about him, and about the issues around that.”

Sam Worthington is on board as Perseus while Liam Neeson was reputed to have been offered the role of Zeus. However, given his current tragic circumstances, it’s not yet known if he will commit to the role.

Footage from the set of Prince of Persia movie and Jake Gyllenhall talks about getting buff

ET has some footage from the set of the new Prince of Persia movie starring Jake Gyllenhall as the Prince.

'Pirates of the Caribbean' blockbuster producer Jerry Bruckheimer is bringing 'Prince of Persia' to life, based on the hugely popular video game and scheduled to open in theaters on May 28, 2010. The story finds Jake as Dastan, a young Persian prince who must join forces with the beautiful and feisty princess Tamina (played by 'Quantum of Solace' Bond girl Gemma Arterton) to prevent a villainous nobleman (Ben Kingsley) from possessing the Sands of Time -- a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.

"I'm running away from family and I'm running away from bad guys and I'm trying to prove my innocence," says Jake, trying to keep the play-by-play plot details a secret. "There's so many extraordinary elements throughout the movie."

Quantum of Solace, 2008 - Movie Review

Director: Marc Forster
Starring: Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Gemma Arterton, Olga Kurylenko, Mathieu Amalric
Running Time: 106 minutes

This review by Ali

Where does a character go once he's been reinvented? Stripped down to the bare essentials, the James Bond of Casino Royale – the 007 that Ian Fleming would have approved of – proved extremely popular with audiences and critics alike, enough for them wipe the slate clean and agree to start afresh. Bond now rebooted, battered physically and emotionally, therefore comes into this sequel a fully-formed, grounded character with places to go: a man with drive, reason, purpose. But despite his passport getting a workout thanks to a jet-setting narrative that takes him half way across the globe, the James Bond of Quantum Of Solace goes precisely nowhere. At times, you feel you can see the character – and by proxy the writers – actually thinking, “So what now?”

We pick up with Bond, James Bond, mere minutes after the finale of Casino Royale – in Italy with the sinister Mr. White (Jesper Christensen) in the boot of his car, nursing a painful looking leg injury. But perhaps British intelligence isn't what it used to be. “We used to be so paranoid,” laughs White, “looking over our shoulders, thinking you were listening to our conversations. But you didn't even know we exist!” White claims his organisation Quantum – think SPECTRE but without the awesome lairs – has men everywhere, and he's not wrong. Bond travels to Haiti, London, Bolivia and Russia chasing Quantum goons, principally the weasely Dominic Greene; a smarmy eco-crusader in public, but reptilian facilitator of evil deeds behind closed doors. Think Al Gore gone insane with power.

Bond's arc here ought to be revenge; the death of Vesper Lynd the righteous cause. But Craig's emotionless visage is so blank, the script so bereft of character, Quantum Of Solace feels like just another day at the office for 007. Sure, he kills a few people he shouldn't. He breaks the rules. He goes off the grid. But what kind of Bond would he be if he didn't? It isn't until the final scene that you'll actually remember Bond's motivations, so meaningless are his exploits up until that point.

Craig, it must be said, is excellent. Any doubt he could inhabit the role must surely now evaporate. His Bond is a real bruiser: smacked, cracked, bleeding and beaten from pillar to post, Craig looks like hell in the best possible way. The problems with Quantum Of Solace should not fall at his feet. This is the best Bond he could be given the circumstances.

No, the issues are with the studio's choice of director in Marc Forster. This is a man who knows how to put dramatic audiences through the wringer (Monster's Ball, Finding Neverland, The Kite Runner) but he's completely out of his depth handling a franchise this large. High-tempo sequences, like the opening car chase and an extremely Bournian rooftop pursuit, are disorientating in the extreme: too fast, too sloppy and too ruthlessly edited. Often, things change in the blink of an eye – one second Bond is lying on his back, the next he's jumping out a window, the next he's swinging from a rope. It's often impossible to keep up.

Fight scenes often seem practised and stagey (Bond smashes an opponent through a wall with ridiculous ease), while one shot sees 007 riding a motorbike... at about 25mph. These are all hallmarks of a director unfamiliar with action; perhaps former Paul Greengrass protege Dan Bradley should be held responsible (it would certainly explain the feeling of deja vu – as Bond jumps through yet another window, you may feel like yelling, Alan Partridge style, “STOP GETTING BOURNE WRONG!”).

What's more, the realistic tone struck by Martin Campbell in Casino Royale has taken something of a leave of absence here. MI6 use flashy, over-the-top Minority Report-style holo-computers, when anyone who reads the papers knows that British intelligence can't even hop in a taxi without leaving their laptop in the back. Bond, leaping on a bad guy's bonnet, finds time to fire of a clunky quip before his bullet. Amalric's bad guy lurches uncomfortably from believably slimy to ridiculously evil, lunging at Bond with an axe in a final showdown. Though I hesitate to compare it to Indy's infamous 'fridge' escape, the scene where 007 jumps out of a plane without a parachute and survives seems a little too far-fetched even for a Bond movie. All we ask is for some consistency – this isn't Crank, this is Bond.

This is not a disaster on par with Die Another Day. In fact, in parts it's quite watchable – Craig is a magnetic lead, those piercing blue eyes are quite the attention grabber. Judi Dench, meanwhile, is once again magnificent; all British reserve, stiff upper lip and frosty delivery (a low-key scene with M at home, removing her make-up while issuing orders, is perhaps the most disarming in the entire movie). The Bond girls look the part, too, even if Olga Kurylenko (ticking the boxes marked 'feisty' and 'headstrong') lacks personality and Gemma Arterton (Agent Shagwell) lacks any decent screen time. On a second viewing, perhaps the topsy-turvy storyline settles a little – a menagerie of accents does mean some important plot points will be missed first time around.

But make no mistake, Quantum Of Solace is a crushing disappointment. Try as you might, you'll be unable to invest in any of the characters – now Bond's heart has been broken, it's like nothing ever changed and the character exists simply to get to the next location and car chase and gun fight. It's a perfectly average action film, certainly better than the last few Brosnan outings. But when Casino Royale set the bar so high, it's not acceptable for a follow-up to simply stroll under it. Once again, Bond finds himself at a cross-roads, standing still, without direction. So... what now?

I don't like the fact they've gone from the realism that was in Casino Royale, but I'm still going to go and see it on the big screen. What do you think of that? Are you going to see the movie? Did you enjoy Casino Royale?

Sir Ben Kingsley as Nizam in Prince of Persia

Here is a first look at Sir Ben Kingsley as the villainous Nizam from the 2010 Prince of Persia. Looks like he's doing the pointy dance or YMCA. Who knows! It's another off set in costume photo like the one we had a while ago of Jake Gyllenhall as the Prince. Nothing actually on set althought we did have some set photos as well. Just need some of Gemma Arterton in costume as Tamina now for the main three parts to be complete.

What do you think of Ben's boogie?
