The Expendables - Rourke and Stallone get close

A not very action orientated photo from Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables. No explosions, no guns, no fights, just two dudes tattooing and sitting on motor bikes. I wonder if they like snails or oysters?

In this photo from Empire Rourke's arms dealer and part-time tattooist Tool inks Stallone's Barney Ross.

UPDATED: De Niro & Seagal may be fighting Machete!

We are all looking forward to the feature length version of Robert Rodriguez's Machete.

Danny Trejo is back in the title role and he's out for revenge.

Now Bloody Disgusting have some interesting rumours on other cast members:
  • Michelle Rodriguez will play a character named Luz.
  • Jonah Hill will play Julio.
  • Robert De Niro will play Senator McLaughlin.
That's right. De Niro! If he is on a good day when he films this then it should be amazing. Plus he will have to have a big smackdown with Trejo.

Still just a rumour, but a very good one.

UPDATE: The Playlist have the news that Steven Seagal will almost definitely be starring in the film. Sounding like another Expendables!

Danny Trejo says Machete is about to be unleashed

We all knew Machete was one of the few trailers from the Tarantino / Rodriguez Grindhouse projects that was going to eventually see the light of day as a full length feature.

Well it looks like it may be with us a lot sooner than we thought.

Gordon & The Whale spoke with Machete himself, Danny Trejo, and he told them he had spoken to Rodriguez yesterday and was told they would begin shooting in 5 weeks.

This is excellent news as the trailer was brilliant and we should get some old school action.

Trejo also said he was not going to be in Stallone's The Expendables as a few rumours had previously mentioned.

Trejo is a great actor and it will be good to finally see him in a proper leading role.

Below is the Machete trailer from Grindhouse that started it all.

The Expendables - Stallone and Lundgren. Round 2

Here are a few photos from the set of Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables. As you can see Rocky and Ivan Drago are about to have a rematch on the streets of New Orleans.
Dolph Lundgren is looking really well and I forgot how big he was. The photo of him below reminds me of a comic book character but I can't think who.

Above Dolph is doing his best impression of a Terminator hunting down Stallone!

The photos are via AICN and they also include this custom chopper and truck which may be in the film. I'm sure Stallone's character has the truck, but I could be wrong.

Is Kurt Russell going to be in Stallone's The Expendables?

Recently the news came to pass that Forest Whitaker would not be starring in The Expendables. He was replaced by 50 Cent who was replaced by Terry Crews. I still think Carl "Action Jackson" Weathers should have been the guy.

Now some word has come from the Stallone Zone about what Kurt Russell (Snake Plissken, R J MacReady, Elvis Presley, Jack Burton, Captain Ron, Elvis Presley, Cash, Wyatt Earp and Stuntman Mike) has said about the possibility of starring in the film. Will Tango and Cash be reunited?
I know that many people on the site have asked for Kurt Russell. I asked for him too. Actually, I was taken aback when asked to put the request in a letter and send it to his agent. Subsequently, I was called back by the agent several days later after refusing to send a letter and he said Kurt Russell is not interested in ‘ensemble acting’ at this time.

So, People, I came, I saw, I failed.

Best,
Sly

That will be a no then.

50 Cent is no longer one of The Expendables

First is was Forest Whitaker, then it was 50 Cent who was down to play Hale Caeser in Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables. Now it has changed again. Stallone got in touch with Harry Knowles over at AICN with the update.
So... who is Hale Caesar?

First off - he's 6'2 & a half" and BIG. He's a former San Diego Charger. He made his screen debut with Arnold Schwarzeneggar in THE 6TH DAY. And his most recent film will be this summer's Arnie-less TERMINATOR SALVATION. He is TERRY CREWS. Not necessarily a big name, but a big man to take his place among other big men. As I said, Sly seems very enthusiastic about this fella and I look forward to seeing what Terry Crews has in store for us.
I think this is a much better choice than 50 Cent. Crews has been in Idiocracy, Get Smart, Everybody Hates Chris, Terminator Salvation and loads more. He's also due to star in Game with Gerard Butler - the first person shooter film where gamers control real people.

Do you think this is a better casting decision than 50 Cent was?

50 Cent to replace Forest Whittaker in Stallone's The Expendables

Filming for The Expendables had to be pushed back a month which meant Forest Whitaker had to bow out to due to scheduling conflicts. Sylvester Stallone sent these letters over to AICN. The first one mentions the various character names and points out that Curtis Jackson (50 Cent) has replaced Forest Whitaker in the film.

Needless to say this caused a whole heap of WTF so Stallone sent the second letter explaining the decision.
Dear Harry,

Below is a letter that I sent to the Stallone Zone that I had also wanted to
send to you because I have the same loyalty to your site as well. Anyway, it
might temper preconceived opinions.

Thank you and best,
Sly

P.S. Also, for clarification:
Hale Caesar is Curtis Jackson
Toll Road (new character) is Randy Couture
Monroe is Eric Roberts
Tool (an ex-Expendable) is Mickey Rourke
Bao is Jet Li
Lee Christmas is Jason Statham
Lacy is Charisma Carpenter
Sandra is Giselle Itie (famous Brazilian actress)
And
Barney 'the schizo' Ross is Yours Truly.

P.S.S. By the way, there's enough testosterone and ego in this film to float
a large continent covered in elephants, but I'm enjoying it.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Craig,

I appreciate the incredible amount of work you've done on my behalf. Please
tell the loyal followers to be positive not negative in their feedback. I am
not self-destructive. The anger of the casting of 50 Cent is understandable,
but not fair. A player is only as good as his coach. If a man can
communicate in one medium, he can communicate in another if his strengths
are brought out and he has the support of well-wishers. So, trust me, the
change of Forest Whitaker to 50 Cent AKA Curtis Jackson is a good one. No
one thought Dolph Lundgren was a good choice for ROCKY or Mr. T. Carl
Weathers was an afterthought when Ken Naughton fell out. The same with Talia
Shire and Richard Crenna, who was known as a comedic actor, not a serious
one.

Nobody wanted Eric Roberts over Ben Kingsley, but I believe it's a vastly
improved casting. The point is, you either believe in me and the project,
setting your personal feelings aside, or you take a darker approach, which
really serves no purpose since your insight and suggestions and overall
enthusiasm are a great thrill for me to behold everyday I sign on.

Signing off -

Your friend,
Sly
Oh well, he does stand by his decision. Pity Whitaker can't be in it. I've never seen 50 Cent in one of his acting roles so I'm not really in a position to comment. Do you think he is a good choice for the film or has Stallone dropped the ball on this one?

Stallone brings Charisma and Stone Cold to the Expendables.

Some more casting news for Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables has hit.

Variety reports that WWE alum "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and Joss Whedon veteran, Charisma Carpenter ("Angel", "Buffy the Vampire Slayer") have joined the cast of the film, which was written and will be directed by Sly.

The two join a growing cast which includes Sylvester Stallone, Forest Whitaker, Eric Roberts, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Randy Couture, Dolph Lungdren, Mickey Rourke and a cameo by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Stallone seems to be being rather clever with his casting and going for actors who cover a multitude of genres. This should hopefully bring in the viewers when the film is released.

Arnold talks about his cameo in Stallone's The Expendables and he's not sure about Terminator Salvation

In a recent story from The Arnold Fans the site caught up with California Governer Arnold Schwarzenegger at the "2009 Arnold Classic." Here is what Arnold had to say about Terminator Salvation and The Expendables.

On Terminator Salvation:
I have seen the movie, but I have not seen it as a finished product yet. I have not seen it yet with the Terminator special effects and some of the sound and the music is not in there yet and so on. So I really cannot comment on it, what the movie will be like as a finished product. There's a rule that you never talk about a movie unless you have seen the finished product. But you know as I said to the director when they began that I wish them the best of luck, that I'm happy that they move forward with the franchise, I am very happy with where I am with my profession as the governor and they should try to find a way of doing a story that does not include me at all, not even one single shot in it. I don't believe in that. To kind of have them go out and promote the movie and say you know Arnold is in the movie and everyone thinks that I'm the Terminator and in fact you only see one second of me in there and so I don't think thats the right thing to do. And you know that's the danger of that, and that's why I feel reluctant to be part of the movie in the first place. So it doesn't get promoted that way.
Regarding The Expendables:
But to talk about Sly's movie you know Sly and I we became very good friends over the last 10, 15 years, especially since the Planet Hollywood days. And we've traveled all around the world. and we've had a terrific time and so he was very helpful to me when I ran for governor. Or with any of the initiatives that were on ballot, he came to fundraising in different places and he was always there to pump up the people and all that. So I... naturally when he asked me if I would do a cameo, which will just be something quick, like I walk out of a hotel or out of a office building and he will walk up and we will bump into each other and there will be some mumbling and then we will walk off (crowd laughs). So it will be something very simple, that will be again, just a cameo, so that's what we're going to do. I promised him I'd do that and I'm looking forward to that. Ok? Good.

It does sound as if Arnie is distancing himself from the Terminator Salvation and his comments contradict McG's recent words about Arnie's likeness being captured by computer and used in the film. I think it would tie the previous films together quite nicely to see the genesis of the original Terminator.

Do you want to see the classis Arnold Terminator in the new film?

The Random - Schwarzenegger in The Expendables, Life of Pi, School for Scumbags, God of War, Trump Heist, Nerverackers, How do You Know?, Book of Eli

Former action star turned California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will cameo as himself in Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables reports AICN. Arnie will shoot a one day cameo appearance in the action-team up film in which a team of mercenaries is sent to infiltrate a South American country to overthrow the ruthless dictator and liberate the country. Eric Roberts will replace Ben Kingsley in the role of a corrupt CIA agent. Latino Review adds that Danny Trejo has landed a role in the film as well.

Ang Lee ("Brokeback Mountain," "The Ice Storm") is in talks to direct the film version of Yann Martel's Booker Prize-winning novel Life of Pi for Fox 2000 reports Variety. The coming-of-age story revolves around a youth who is the lone survivor of a sunken freighter and winds up sharing a lifeboat with a hyena, an injured zebra, an orangutan and a hungry Bengal tiger.

Aaron Rapke and Stewart Kaye ("The Money Shot") are set to pen the action comedy School for Scumbags reports Variety. Based on Danny King's novel, the story centers on a teen who, after being expelled from a long list of schools, lands at a campus for "misdirected" teens where the teachers are actually professional thieves who teach them to execute the heist of the century.

Brett Ratner ("Rush Hour," "X-Men: The Last Stand") may have left the film adaptation of hit video game series God of War. According to Production Weekly, Ratner's is focusing on the Chris Tucker and Eddie Murphy team-up vehicle Trump Heist as his next project.

Robert Rodriguez ("Sin City," "Spy Kids") will reteam with Dimension on the futuristic thriller Nerverackers says Variety. Set in 2085, the story centers on a character named Joe Tezca who is part of an elite unit dispatched to quell a crime wave in a theoretically perfect future society.

Owen Wilson and Paul Rudd are in talks to star opposite Reese Witherspoon in James L. Brooks' romantic comedy currently titled How Do You Know? for Sony Pictures says Variety. Rudd would play a white-collar executive vying for Witherspoon's affections, while Wilson would portray a professional baseball pitcher who is also a love interest.

Evan Jones ("Jarhead," "October Road") is set to star in Warner Bros.' futuristic western The Book of Eli says The Hollywood Reporter. In "Eli," Jones will play the leader of a quartet of bikers who tussle with Eli (Denzel Washington).

Command Performace - Seagal was just the cook, now Dolph Lundgren is the drummer!

A Moscow charity concert turns bloody when armed extortionists take the head liner American pop-star Venus and the Russian President with his family hostage. Help is on the way when the drummer of a heavy metal warm-up band, an ex-bad ass biker played by Lundgren, and a young Russian F.S.B. agent team up to fight back. But our two heroes are seriously outnumbered and things aren't as simple as they appear when old ghosts from the Soviet Union appear to haunt the present in this fast paced action piece.

Could be the last chance to see Dolph in a low budget direct to DVD film before he hits the big time again in The Expendables.
