Inglourious Basterds will be 1 minute longer and there may be sequels and prequels.

Inglourious Basterds is almost with us, but not after a little bit of tweaking in the editing room.

Eli Roth who plays Bear Jew in the film told MovieWeb that the film was going to be five to six minutes longer than the version that played at Cannes.

He also hinted that Quentin Tarantino has already planned, not only a sequel, but also a prequel that would reunite Bear Jew with Brad Pitt's Lt. Aldo Raine.

This is what Roth had to say about the new length of the theatrical version:

After Cannes, Quentin always said that he wanted to do some cutting, and pruning, and that he was going to be changing things. There was a lot of stuff left out before. He felt that he had over cut. There were certain scenes that were taken out for Cannes that will come back into the final version. Because it plays better like that. I think the final version of the film is five or six minutes longer than the version shown in Cannes. From what Quentin has told me, he has fleshed it out a little bit more. Cannes running length was at two hours and twenty-five minutes. I think this is a little over two hours and thirty minutes. Something close to that.

Quentin Tarantino has since said that the new cut is only a minute long, but that does help the film flow a little better. He spoke to BFDealMemo. "The movie is actually a minute longer, in running time, than it was in Cannes. It was 2:28, without end credits, and now it's 2:29, or 2:32 with end credits." That means it is now 149 minutes.

Roth also spoke about a possible sequel/prequel

Quentin has an entire universe planned out for Inglourious Basterds. With Aldo and Donny in Italy with a troop of black soliders. He has a whole prequel planned, and most of it is written. If the movie does well, he will make the prequel. I want to see a prequel. Both Brad and I want to be in it. Brad and I were in Cannes screaming, "Prequel, prequel, prequel!" He even has two sequels planned. He's not necessarily going to make these movies. But he has at least four our five stories centering on these characters that span through the fifties and sixties. He knows exactly where these characters are going. He has this whole universe mapped out in his head.

I can't wait to see this film. Just got to wait until 21st August.

Anne Hathaway to Get Happy as Judy Garland

Academy Award nominee Anne Hathaway is attached to star as iconic performer Judy Garland in the film and stage adaptations of Gerald Clarke's biography "Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland," for which The Weinstein Company (TWC) has optioned the film and stage rights. The announcement was made today by Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman of TWC.

"Get Happy," based on hundreds of interviews plus Garland's own unfinished and unpublished autobiography, portrays the dramatic highs and lows of the cultural icon's life-- from her tumultuous early years as a child performer to her tragic last days.

"We are thrilled to have the brilliantly talented Anne Hathaway portray stage and screen legend Judy Garland. I have worked with Anne on projects in the past and have known her for many years. She will be a true class act in this challenging role," said Harvey Weinstein. "Gerald Clarke's biography is a fascinating and comprehensive look at Garland's life and is particularly outstanding because of its exclusive details from her own writings. Her story is incredible subject matter for both theatre and film and we look forward to bringing it to audiences."

Hathaway can sing and dance plus she played a drug addict in Rachel Getting Married so I can sort of see why she would be a good choice for the role. What do you think of the news?

Outlander - New poster which tells you nothing about the film except Jesus is in it

I've been looking forward to this film since I first heard about it ages ago and the synopsis above sounds cool. Kind of like Beowulf meets Predator. Vikings and aliens are cool concepts in their own right and when they meet it should be shouted from the rooftops. Therefore, I have to ask the question why is The Weinstein Co once again hiding away one of their films by not really pushing it and releasing it in the nothing movie month of January?

Also if you knew nothing about the film and saw the new poster (above) you would still know nothing about it apart from the fact it could be the second coming of Jesus Christ or just his giant head about to crush Earth. Honestly, where are the vikings? Where is the big alien beastie? Come on poster people, play the game!

Piranha 3D - Concept Art and Plot synopsis. They eat flesh and blood

Shocktilyoudrop have the news that The Weinstein's have revealed the conceptual art from Alex Aja's Piranha 3D which is currently in pre-production. Principal photography begins early next year.

"What do they really eat?"

"You mean besides flesh and blood?"

How is that for brilliant dialogue!

A new type of terror is about to be cut lose on beautiful Lake Victoria. After a sudden underwater terror sets free scores of prehistoric man-eating fish, an unlikely group of strangers, including hot local cop Julie Forester, must band together to stop themselves from becoming fish food for the area's new razor-toothed residents. But out heroine is seriously outnumbered, and with only one chance to save the lake and her family from totally being devoured, she must risk everything to destroy the aquatic carnivores herself.

The first Piranha movie is one of those guilty pleasures I watch when it is on TV. I wasn't actually aware of this third film in the series. What do you think of the concept art and are you a Piranha fan?

The Road may be delayed

Looks as if The Road may be delayed until next year. Apparantly this change comes right after Harvey Weinstein moved up the release of Stephen Daldry's The Reader to early December. The Road also is not quite finished yet.

However, First Showing go on to say that this is a ludicrous decision by the Weinstein's. They say:

Well, I'm guessing that The Weinstein Company can't handle Oscar season marketing on two movies at once, even though they'd be three or four weeks apart. I can't speak for film's preparedness and if it is indeed ready or not, but I don't think it has heavy CGI work and it did shoot much earlier this year. What can speak for is the fact that The Road already has a lot of early buzz whereas The Reader does not. In fact, I hadn't even heard of The Reader until a few weeks ago. So why are they moving The Road when to me it seems like it would make more money than The Reader?

I have to agree with them. The Road is getting loads of talk around the web and The Reader simply isn't. They should be really pushing The Road as it already has a huge fan base. I know there are quite a few fans of the book who read this site - what do you think of the news?
