Billy is Surviving Evil - He's a cool dude

Terence Daw's Surviving Evil stars Billy Zane and The Descent's Natalie Mendoza fighting some nasty creatures.. The film premieres in South Africa this July with a followed by a UK release in September. No word yet on a U.S. release.

Billy Zane, one of the coolest actors out there who has never achieved the greatness he should have had. Mind you he has been in some really dire films. As Chisholm always said, he would have made a great Bruce Wayne / Batman back in the day. Plus my Wife can never understand why Kate Winslet would want to go with DiCaprio when she had the Zanester there all studly in his dinner jacket.

In this new film Zane is a TV survival host whose show taping on a remote Philipine island becomes that much more dangerous when they disturb the domain of an Aswang, a hideous ghoul of Filipino lore.

A TV documentary crew arrive on a remote island in the Philippines to film a survival special. Their back-to-the-wild adventure proves to be more terrifying than they ever could have imagined.

Billy Zane is in Evil: In The Time Of Heroes (To Κακό 2: Στην Eποχή Tων Hρώων)

Zombies, time travelling to ancient Greece and fighting. Sound good doesn't it? Want more? How about Billy Zane wearing a beard as a kick-ass monk kind of character!

That's what I'm talking about. Billy Zane coolest movie star of all time, but with poor choice of films, is in a zombie film. I still think he would have made an amazing Bruce Wayne / Batman.

Three days ago everything changed. An ancient force turned humans to bloodthirsty zombies.

It wasn’t the first time, though. 2800 years ago the situation was the same. Then they prevailed and The Evil was beaten. Will our heroes manage to do the same today?

Will the manage to re-live The Time of Heroes?

Love N' Dancing - Trailer for Amy Smart, Tom Malloy and the main man, Billy Zane's latest film

Robert Iscove ("She's All That," "From Justin to Kelly") directs the film written by Tom Malloy ("The Alphabet Killer").

Five years ago: Jake Mitchell (Tom Malloy) is the defending World West Coast Swing Champion. He’s got everything going for him – looks, personality, and style. He’s at the top of his game when he and his partner Corinne (Nicola Royston) are crowned, for the second time, the unexpected winners at the World Swing Dance Championships.

As the crowd cheers and the celebration begins, Jake appears uneasy. Did he really deserve to win? The music blasts and the bass is thumping…but Jake hears none of it. He feels it. Jake is completely deaf, due to an ear infection when he was a teenager. He learned how to dance by feeling the vibrations of the music. Now he feels something else….that perhaps the judges gave him the win out of sympathy.

Present day: Jessica Donovan’s (AMY SMART) life is boring. When she was younger, she was a dancer who had dreams of Broadway. Now she’s an English teacher for disinterested, upper class middle school kids, and she’s dying to let loose. Her fiancé Kent (BILLY ZANE) is a workaholic who cares more about making money than making Jessica happy. At a friend’s wedding, Kent makes Jessica look foolish on the dance floor as another couple, arrogant because they’ve obviously been taking lessons, get all the applause.

Meanwhile, Jake Mitchell has moved on with his life, and now he’s a dance teacher who travels around the country doing motivational speaking to students about how his disability did not hold him back from achieving success. It’s at a school assembly where Jake and Jessica first meet. They have an instant connection…but there’s only one problem. Jake’s still in love with Corinne and perhaps always will be. And Corinne still knows exactly how to get under Jake’s skin; though she has a new fiancé and dancing partner, she drives Jake nuts with her flirtatious, competitive ways.

Jessica initially asks Jake to train her and Kent in West Coast Swing for their wedding, but Jake and Jessica are drawn closer when Kent’s non-stop job prevents him from going to the class. Jessica decides to continue taking lessons from Jake anyway…perhaps they can compete and (should be in) the World Championship of Swing in the Pro-Am division.

And they get better and better. They decide, at a dance party, to go for it all. Forget the Pro-Am; they want to try for the title that Jake felt he never deserved. But now the champions are all athletic 18 year olds who can defy gravity, and Jake is in his early thirties. To make matters worse, Corinne gets word that her old partner is in the game again, and what do you know…she’s interested in Jake again. Jake and Jessica must try to elude all obstacles, romantic and otherwise, to stay focused on the goal…winning the World Title, and winning each other.

Uwe Boll goes serious. Billy Zane has his back

Uwe Boll, master of the art of filmmaking, winner of multiple Oscars and loved by Video Game players and film fans everywhere is making another film. Only one fact in that previous statement was true.

This time his new film is a serious one. I know, I know, BloodRayne was almost Shakespearean in its intent, but no this one is really serious (for those not yet up to speed, I am being quite sarcastic).

According to Filmstalker Janjaweed aka Darfur "tells the story of American journalists in Sudan who are torn between returning home to report on what they have seen or to stay and try and help the victims of the atrocities there, something the countries of the world were unwilling to do...yet again."

Variety have the news on who will be starring in the film.

Edward Furlong (American History X, Terminator 2)) will star alongside Billy Zane and Kristanna Loken (BloodRayne) in Uwe Boll's "Janjaweed." Drama is lensing in Cape Town, South Africa. The film follows American journalists confronting atrocities in Sudan.

Furlong next appears in John Morrissey's "Tequila," indie "This Is Not a Movie," and another Boll film, "Stoic."

I am a big fan of the Zane as some of you no doubt know. He would have been a kick ass Bruce Wayne / Batman back in the day. However, I don't think starring in a Uwe Boll film is the right thing for him to do.

What do you make of that? Boll doing a serious film with issues and everything? Do you think he will do it justice or will it crash and burn?

Holy Billy Zane - The Phantom may become a TV series.

A while back I mentioned that the old comic book character, The Phantom was going to have another chance at the big screen thanks to an Australian film company, producer Bruce Sherlock, and writer Tim Boyle. It is doubtful that Billy Zane would get a chance to Slam Evil again (what a dreadful tagline that was). However, now it looks like he’ll be getting the small-screen treatment too, thanks to the Sci-Fi (soon to be renamed SyFy - what a dreadful rebrand that is) channel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter (via MTV), “The Phantom” is getting a fresh take in a Sci-Fi miniseries. Rather than be daunted by the character’s past cinematic failures, producer Robert Halmi Jr. sees it as a chance to redefine the character.

“That there hasn’t been a successful ‘Phantom’ leaves the door wide open for us,” said Halmi, “since nobody has made it their own yet.”

Sci-Fi was drawn to the masked man because of his realistic setting, and lack of superpowers. “It’s not a guy in purple tights,” notes Mark Strong, Sci Fi channel executive. If the miniseries does well, Sci-Fi may turn it into an ongoing series in the hopes that they can fill the void left by “Battlestar Galactica.”

A film and a TV series. Both mean the Ghost who walks will be back in the public eye, but which one would you want to see the most? Who should be the Phantom?

Judge Dredd concept art - Looks very nice

I mentioned back near the start of December that Rebellion where trying to get a new Judge Dredd film going. Well now it looks as if things are moving forward with this concept art found by io9.
This lovely concept art was done by the comic book artist Jock who has worked on 2000AD, The Losers, Green Arrow: Year One and Hellblazer. Looks mighty fine indeed and looks as if they will be sticking closer to the comic than Stallone's Dredd movie ever did.

Current suggestion over in the Forum as to who could play Dredd are Christian Bale, Jason Statham, Bruce Campbell (he has the chin), Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell, The Rock and Billy Zane.

Oscars - What do you think will win Best Picture

I recently posted the ad that had been taken out to promote The Dark Knight for Best Picture at next years Oscars.

That got me thinking about what could possibly win The Best Picture. On my wanders around the World Wide Web there are a few films that seem to be in the running for Best Picture. They are as follows:

Australia - Nicole and Hugh get it on in the outback.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - Brad Pitt ages backwards.

The Dark Knight - Bale growls as The Batman, Ledger does a magic trick and there are two Aaron Eckharts but I didn't see any jousting.

Doubt - Meryl Streep and Amy Adams are nuns. Is it a porno? Philip Seymore Hoffman wishes.

Frost/Nixon - The head Lycan dude fron Underworld interviews Dracula.

Gran Torino - Clint Eastwood plays a rascist and has a nice car.

Milk - Sean Penn play a big gay bottle of semi-skimmed or a politician or something.

Nothing But the Truth - Kate Beckinsale outs a CIA agent with hilarious consequences.

Rachel Getting Married - Rachel is getting married and her sister does drugs

The Reader - Kate Winslet is a Nazi who likes to have bedtime stories read to her. Ahh isn't that sweet!

Revolutionary Road - Kate Winslett and Leonardo DiCaprio set sail on the Titanic while living in 1950's Connecticut and argue a lot or something. I could be wrong. Not sure how Kate got the part in the film directed by her husband? Is Billy Zane in it?

Slumdog Millionaire - Indian kid wins Who Wants to be A Millionaire. Danny Boyle still goes on about 28 Days Later wasn't a zombie film.

The Wrestler - Mickey Rourke is a washed up has-been. In this film he plays a wrestler.

WALL-E - CGI Pixar fest with a cute little robot.

Sadly I've only seen a couple of them (Dark Knight, WALL-E) although a fair few of them have yet to be released so it's not that bad a thing. I do want to see Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon, Gran Torino, Milk and The Wrestler and the others I'm all a bit meh about. I personally think Benjamin Button will win the best picture Oscar purely from all the buzz and reviews I've been reading about it.

Back to the Future Special Edition Blu-Ray news - Billy Zane digs it

Universal Home Entertainment has announced that they will be re-releasing the Back to the Future films on DVD in February. All three films have been digitally restored and blu-rayerized (remastered in High Definition), but the big news is that the original film, Back to the Future, will be released as a two-disc special edition. The new bonus disc will include all the footage from Back to the Future… The Ride, including the lobby que loop, the pre-show, and the entire ride itself. The new collectors edition will also feature the infamous Back to the Future Part II preview special hosted by Leslie Nielsen which orginally aired November 17, 1989 on NBC, and a new documentary called Looking Back to the Future. The two sequels have no new extras. All three discs will be going for $19.98 and be out on 10th February, 2009.

Revolutionary Road - Will the Titanic double act strike gold again? Billy Zane's not in it

Directed by Mr Kate Winslet, Sam Mendes, this is getting early Oscar buzz around the Web.

April (Kate Winslet) and Frank Wheeler (Leonardo Dicaprio) are a young, thriving couple living with their two children in a Connecticut suburb in the mid-1950s. Their self-assured exterior masks a creeping frustration at their inability to feel fulfilled in their relationships or careers. Frank is mired in a well-paying but boring office job, and April is a housewife still mourning the demise of her hoped-for acting career. Determined to identify themselves as superior to the mediocre sprawl of suburbanites who surround them, they decide to move to France where they will be better able to develop their true artistic sensibilities, free of the consumerist demands of capitalist America. As their relationship deteriorates into an endless cycle of squabbling, jealousy and recriminations, their trip and their dreams of self-fulfillment are thrown into jeopardy.

Jude Law as Watson...Maybe. Could be Billy Zane though

Variety have a tale to tell. That tale is that Jude Law will be appearing as Watson in the Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes movie opposite Robert Downey Jr. This may well be refuted in the near future, but for the minute it is good to go. I personally can't really see Jude Law as Watson. If anything he has more of the look of Holmes and Downey Jr looks more like a Watson. Plus Michael Caine played Holmes opposite Ben Kingsley's Watson and Jude Law appears to be slowly acting in every role Caine ever played (Alfie, Sleuth). Give it a few days and we shall see what's what. The game's afoot.

Jude Law is negotiating to join Robert Downey Jr. in "Sherlock Holmes," the drama that Guy Ritchie will direct for Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures.

Law is expected to close a deal shortly to play Watson, the super-sleuth's sidekick.
Joel Silver, Lionel Wigram, Susan Downey and Dan Lin are producing. Production begins early next month in London.

The film will incorporate the classic tales written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, as well as the comic book "Sherlock Holmes." Studio is still casting some of the principal roles, including the villain, Blackwood.

Is Jude Law a good Watson? Who would be the perfect casting for this role?

Billy Zane to Play Every Male Comic Book Hero and Villain Ever

Billy Zane, he had Zoolander's back, was the only reason the Wife watches Titanic, looks cool with or without a beard, goes hunting with Chisholm, okay he was a bit foolish to let Kelly Brook go, but nobody is perfect.

He is the guy the studios should go to when they need someone for the latest comic book movie. Think about....go on think....now think some more....take your favourite superhero and imagine the Zanester playing them in a movie. It works doesn't it....If it doesn't then think some more until it does.

The man who should have been Bruce Wayne, the perfect Lex Luthor, the best Reed Richards, the swashbuckling Green Arrow, the death dealing Deathstroke, the strong jawed Captain America, the brooding Namor, the incredible shrinking Atom, the immortal Iron Fist, the perfect Zeidt, the cackling Creeper, the infinite Beyonder, well you get the idea.

Plus he is bald so can portray any hairstyle through the judicious application of hairpieces, or stay au natural to play Lex Luthor or other bald characters such as a young Charles Xavier.

In closing keep thinking about it, but don't think about The Phantom too much. Slam evil...of all the crappy taglines!
