Murphy it's you - Robocop remake news

It has been a while since there has been an update regarding this project. An MGM spoke to io9 about the Robocop remake / reboot. It is still being made, but it won't be out for a 2010 release. The rep said that the studio had told distributors at an event a couple weeks ago to expect the movie in 2011. He said director Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler, The Fountain) and screenwriter David Self (Road to Perdition) were still working on the script, and that no casting had been completed.

"Darren and David are working on it now, and we look forward to seeing it in 2011."

I do still wonder what they can do with Robocop. The original film was a work of wonder. The fact Aronofsky is attached does intrigue me though.

Hopefully, they'll keep the cool look of Robocop in place. What do you want from the new Robocop film? Who could play the titanium encased lawman?

A while back Mickey Rourke and Chris Jericho had a bit of a slanging match on Larry King's show.

Now at the recent WrestleMania show Rourke got into the ring and laid a few punches on Jericho.

All a big act of course, but pretty cool nontheless.

The Slasher by Darren Aronofsky "If you've ever been folded backwards you've seen me!"

Johnny at the always excellent Freddy in Space site (check it out if you love horror - loads of stuff on there) has come across this brilliant Jason (Friday the 13th) and The Wrestler mash-up. Make sure you listen to the Bruce Springsteen inspired song.

Mickey Rourke should play a slasher. Who could he play? Even better what horror movie could Darren Aronofsky direct (although Requiem for a Dream was almost a horror!)

The Wrestler's Scott Siegel seems to have forgotten that filming has finished

I Watch Stuff noticed this story on NBC New York:

An actor who played a steroids dealer in the movie The Wrestler was arrested on drug charges after leading police on a high-speed chase in Eastchester on Thursday.

Scott Siegel was under surveillance by DEA agents who saw him picking up a package in New Rochelle on Wednesday before leading them on a car chase in his SUV, investigators said.

Siegel struggled with DEA agents before they were able to take him into custody at the intersection of Highland Avenue and Main Street, authorities said. Siegel is charged with attempting to distribute steroids and assaulting a federal agent.
Thursday's arrest was not Siegel's first brush with the law. He was arrested in 1999 for distributing steroids, ecstasy and an animal tranquilizer that can be used for hallucinations.

Siegel's character sells the main character Randy "The Ram", played by Mickey Rourke, steroids and painkillers in a locker room in "The Wrestler".

Talk about life imitating art.

They were brilliant and self-destructive. It’s a mystery why that is. But it is also true for Mickey. Some actors lose their way and they never put it together again. Mickey Rourke to step into the Wrestling ring for real

/film have the news that at the SAG Awards, Mickey Rourke revealed to Access Hollywood that he may be wrestling for WWE’s Wrestlemania 25, which will be held in Houston, Texas on 5th April:

The boys from the WWE called me and asked me to do it…I said, ‘I want to.’
I’m talking with [Wrestler] Rowdy Roddy Piper about it.

Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler, for which Rourke received a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination, has won acclaim both for Rourke’s performance and for its candid depiction of the wrestling profession. It’s not clear whether Rourke will actually be doing a proper wrestling match, or if it will be more of a cameo-style appearance.

What do you wrestling fans think of that? Would be cool to see Rowdy Roddy Piper try and get Mickey to put on the sunglasses!

UPDATED: Iron Man 2 - Mickey Rourke as Crimson Dynamo or Whiplash. Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer

Earlier today I posted that he was cast in Stallone's The Expendables now Marvel has just announced that Mickey Rourke is in talks to join Jon Favreau's Iron Man 2. First Showing had the news.

He is in discussions to play a villain described as Tony Stark's Russian alter ego, a heavily tattooed bruiser who is in the arms trade and battles Iron Man in his own nuclear-powered armored suit. Going from what is known about the comic book this certainly sounds like the Crimson Dynamo.

All in all it's not been a bad couple of years for Mr Rourke. The Wrestler is getting rave reviews and he's got some big films lined up.

UPDATE 08/01/09: THR says that Rourke could be playing Whiplash - “Whiplash designed two cybernetically controlled whips that could be converted into nunchakus or vaulting poles. The whips could be spun so fast that they could even blow Spider-Man’s webbing away from Scarlotti preventing him from being ensnared. As both Whiplash and Blacklash, Scarlotti used a necro-lash which could be electrically charged by his gauntlets, released from its handle to deliver a concussion charge, or he could turn up the electric charge to its maximum which caused anything it hit, including Iron Man’s armor, to become brittle. He also used anti-gravity bolas, heavy gravity bolas, and various other devices also of his own design.

Also /film mention that Sam Rockwell is also in talks to play Justin Hammer, a multibillionaire businessman and a rival of industrialist Tony Stark. Hammer first appeared in Iron Man #120 in 1978, and has since remained a frequent adversary of Iron Man. Hammer has a genius-level intellect and has access to various forms of advanced technology designed by his technicians. He finances criminals, asking for fifty percent of the illegal profits in exchange for any bail costs and weaponry and equipment replacement. Hammer also invented a device called the hypersonic scan transmitter, which allowed him to take control of Iron Man’s armor, causing him to kill the Carnelian ambassador, and set an army of superhuman criminals against Iron Man.

Big Fan - Photos of Patton Oswalt obsessed fan film

First Showing were sent these photos for a film called Big Fan written and directed by Robert Siegel (The Wrestler). It's going to be on at the Sundance Film Festival and stars Patton Oswalt.

Paul Aufiero (Oswalt), a 35-year-old parking-garage attendant from working-class Staten Island, is the self described "world's biggest New York Giants fan." One night Paul and his best friend, Sal (Kevin Corrigan), spot star Giants linebacker Quantrell Bishop at a gas station in Staten Island. They impulsively follow his SUV into Manhattan to a strip club, where they finally muster up the courage to talk to their hero. What starts out as a dream come true turns into a nightmare as a misunderstanding ignites a violent confrontation, and Paul is sent down a path that will test his devotion to the extreme.

I quite like Patton Oswalt and the films he has starred in. Be sure to check out the short film where he stares at the camera for about 6 minutes and then walks around a storage place until he finds David Byrne playing guitar. Very weird but it does grab you. I posted it a while ago here.
