Photos of Depp, Nolasco, Eckhart and Heard on the set of The Rum Diary

The Rum Diary is slated to finish shooting on June 9. Yes, Johnny Depp will have to work through his birthday to make up for rain delays. Pam sent me these photos of Depp, Amaury Nolasco, Aaron Eckhart and Amber Heard on the set. I can't wait to see some footage from this film.

Will the Green Lantern be Bradley Cooper?

There has been a lot of talk about who will be donning the Green and reciting the Green Lantern oath - Anton Yelchin (Star Trek, Charlie Bartlett), Chris Pine (Star Trek), Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight), Jack Black (Year One), David Boreanaz (Buffy, Angel, Bones), Ryan Gosling (The Notebook), Jon Hamm (Mad Men) and Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Serenity) to name but a few (my favourite would be Fillion).

Now another name has been thrown into the wilds of the internet and that name is Bradley Cooper. You may not know the name but you will have seen his face - Alias, The Hangover, Failure to Launch, Yes Man, He's Just Not That Into You, and The Midnight Meat Train.

He has only been a lead in the last one, which was a horror, and all the rest have been mainly comedy roles so it is a bit of a surprise that he has been included to play Hal Jordan.

Here is what Drew McWeeney a.k.a. Moriarty on AICN, has to say about Cooper.
HitFix can exclusively report that Bradley Cooper is now one of the guys most likely to don the suit and slip on the power ring as The Green Lantern for director Martin Campbell.

Let's be clear: they have not hired him yet. But the process is far enough along that this is more than just a meeting or some spot on a wish list. Keep in mind that Campbell likes to see a lot of people when he's casting... and even when he's screen-testing, he seems willing to explore as many options as possible... but with the film set to shoot later this summer, they've got to start making their choices, and now's the time to put people in front of the camera and see who really works in the suit.

As the quote says Bradley is "one of the guys" so nothing has been decided. I personally just don't see him as Earth's Green Lantern, but he can act.

Would Bradley make a good Green Lantern? If not him who would you like to see play the part?

John Cena talks about the Captain America rumour

There have been many rumours as to who will be playing Steve Rogers, The First Avenger - Captain America. Names such as Matthew McConaughey, Matt Damon, Will Smith, Aaron Eckhart and one that I posted a while back, Neal McDonough. However, one name that has cropped up recently is WWE Superstar, John Cena.

MTV caught up with the big guy to ask him. “Strictly a rumor,” said Cena but added with a smile, “If you guys are listening over at Marvel, that is a pretty cool rumor. I’m extremely patriotic, I was a captain of the football team once, so I think it works out. I think I’m your man.”

“To kill the rumor, I was never contacted by anyone,” admitted Cena. “Usually when those rumors start it’s because someone in that community thinks that I would be okay for a role. I’m flattered that they think I could play Captain America and I would be up for it.”

Yet, for an athlete known to give 250 pound bruisers the occasional “Attitude Adjustment” when necessary, could “The Champ” take himself seriously clad in a spandex jumpsuit?

“Hmm…could I take myself seriously in spandex…have you seen my other job?” joked Cena. “I think I could be alright. I think it’s a great fit.”

I personally hope that they don't go with Cena for Captain America. I'd rather they went for a big name actor or a total unknown first (although Cena has done a bit of action before).

Who do you want to see throw Captain America's mighty shield? Would Cena be a good choice?

Johnny Depp going to or from the set of The Rum Diary

"Private source. Depp with, I believe, Buck Holland..his longtime security man."
Based on Hunter S. Thompson's novel of the same name, The Rum Diary follows Depp as Paul Kemp, a divorced alcoholic and struggling novelist who decides to kick around in San Juan until his ship comes in, working as a journalist for a newspaper that's on its last legs, drinking gallons of rum and experimenting with LSD. With his new friend Bob Sala by his side, Kemp becomes entangled in a corrupt hotel development scheme with a slick PR consultant named Sanderson. Amber Heard, Aaron Eckhart, Richard Jenkins, Michael Rispoli, and Giovani Ribisi also star in this.

The photo below is similar to the previous one I posted, but you get to see a camera in this one and gives a cool little peak into the film making world. Thanks to Pam for sending me these.

Amaury Nolasco joins The Rum Diary

Actor Amaury Nolasco, featured in the Fox Television series Prison Break, arrived in his native Puerto Rico on Wednesday to join the cast of The Rum Diary, a film starring Johnny Depp.

Nolasco said in a press release that he felt “doubly happy” about the chance to combine business with pleasure.

“The Rum Diary” is based on the book of the same name by late “gonzo” journalist Hunter S. Thompson, recounting his experiences living in Puerto Rico in the 1950s.

Shooting on the movie is set to begin next Monday on the Caribbean island.

Depp also portrayed Thompson in the 1998 film “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,” with Puerto Rico’s Benicio del Toro as his co-star.

Nolasco joins a cast that includes Amber Heard, Aaron Eckhart, Richard Jenkins, Giovanni Ribisi and Gavin Houston.

“None of them will leave Puerto Rico without a little piece of our flavor,” Nolasco said of his colleagues.

Directed by Bruce Robinson, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of “The Killing Fields,” the new film is being produced by Depp, Christi Dembrowski and Graham King, whose credits include “The Departed,” “The Aviator” and “Gangs of New York.”

Cheers to Pam for letting me know.

Could those who worship evil's might beware Chris Pine's power, Green Lantern's light!

There was a rumour a little while back that a crew member of the Star Ship Enteprise could be in the running for the most powerful weapon in the Universe - a Green Lantern's power ring. That person was Anton Yelchin (Chekov). The internet generally said, "What the..?!" Now it looks as if half of that rumour is totally incorrect. It won't be the weapons officer it's the Captain. Kirk to be exact.

IESB.net has posted a rumor that Star Trek's Chris Pine ("James T. Kirk") is being eyed as the title character in Warner Brothers' upcoming Green Lantern movie.

Pine would play Hal Jordan, a pilot who finds a powerful ring and its lantern-like battery when a spaceship crashes on Earth. Jordan is selected to succeed the craft's dying occupant as the next Green Lantern, a galactic guardian who is a member of an interstellar corps, the site reported, citing an anonymous source.

The movie has set up production offices and is on track to start shooting in September in Australia for the previously announced 17th December 2010 release date.

Pine is reportedly at the top of a list that also supposedly includes Terminator Salvation's Sam Worthington.

Neither Pine or Worthingtom seem Hal Jordanny enough. They are apparantly going for someone under 30 so Nathan Fillion and Aaron Eckhart are out. I just don't know. Would you be happy with Chris Pine as the Green Lantern of sector 2814? If not him who could it be?

The Random Rumour Round-Up - Two-Face, Linda Hamilton returns to Terminator, Eva Longoria not the Wasp?

WARNING: As per the heading these are all rumours running around the internet.

Two-Face could be in the next Batman Film

When MTV News caught up with “The Dark Knight” star on the Golden Globes red carpet, he was notably less fatalistic about the possibility of reprising his role as Harvey Dent/Two-Face in a sequel to the record-breaking film.

“I think Harvey — if he’s not dead — is in a serious coma,” stated Eckhart, “and I’m not sure he’s coming out. They might pull the plug on him.” Seemingly firm words, right? Except even the notion that his alter-ego is still alive is a clear departure from previous statements where the actor was perfectly fine confirming Harvey’s death at the business end of a freefalling drop.

We know from our recent interview with producer Charles Roven that screenwriters Christopher Nolan and David Goyer have begun brainstorming ideas for a third “Batman” film…could something out of that have led to Eckhart’s about-face on Two-Face? His wink-wink-nod-nod answer seems to suggest that something else may be at play. Source - MTV

Linda Hamilton could be returning to the Terminator universe?

This rumor comes from ComingSoon, who also attended the special presentation held yesterday in New York City for Terminator Salvation.

In their chat with McG afterward, the director said that one option they came up with for the opening of the movie would be to have Sarah Connor do a voiceover. From there, ComingSoon spins it into a rumor with no real facts.

We know Linda Hamilton played Sarah Connor in the first two Terminator movies, but that doesn't mean they actually need her to do the voiceover, although I admit it would be cool to hear. Maybe they can convince her to record just a quick voiceover? Source - First Showing

Eva Longoria says she won't be in the Avengers?

E! Online’s Ryan Seacrest earned some geek cred when he cornered actress Eva Longoria on the Golden Globe's red carpet to ask about the rumor that she’s in the running for a role in Marvel’s much-anticipated superhero team-up film, “The Avengers.”

While photos of Longoria leaving Marvel Studios HQ with a stack of “Avengers” stories last year sparked speculation that she was researching a role in the film — with most guesses casting her as original Avengers team member Wasp — Longoria told Seacrest that the rumor was “not true.”

However, Longoria said she’d love to play a role in “The Avengers” if the opportunity presented itself. Source - MTV

What do you make of those rumours? Which ones do you want to be true? Which would work the best?

Fear Agent blasting his way to the big screen

Dark Horse Comics’ sci-fi adventure series “Fear Agent” is headed for the big screen, according to creator Rick Remender.

In an interview with UGO that recently hit the ‘Net, Remender breaks the news that a big-screen adaptation of his ridiculously entertaining, genre-spanning “space cowboy” series is indeed “in the works,” and warns that saying more could endanger not only the project, but everything he holds dear!

“I can’t really say much more or they’ll kill my family,” said Remender. “They’re out there and they’re always watching… cruel and vicious Hollywood Black ops Agents. We have to be careful about who we say what to.”

However, Remender did feel comfortable throwing out some names of actors he’d like to see play Heath Huston, the alcoholic “hero” of the series.

“If I had my choice of the actor to play Heath Huston I’d say Jon Hamm or Aaron Eckhart,” said Remender.

“Fear Agent” debuted in 2005, and tells the story of an alien invasion of Earth and the creation of the “Fear Agent” squad tasked with eradicating alien threats to the planet. Texas native Huston is thrown from one (generally space-based) adventure to the next, battling threats that range from the comical to more horror-influenced elements. The series is currently written by Remender with art by Tony Moore and Jerome Opena.

The Dark Knight, 2008 - Movie Review

Director: Christopher Nolan
Starring: Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman
Running Time: 152 minutes

Score: 9.5 / 10
This review is from me!

It’s 11:30pm and we’re just back from the super duper preview showing of The Dark Knight at the Fact in Liverpool. I’ll try not to spoil things

Initial thoughts – it is as good as you have heard.

The Nolan brothers have struck absolute dynamite with their script. Everything about it is brilliant and they do one of the best things any writer / director can do. They don’t treat the audience like kids. This is one long, twisted journey through the devastation one messed up man can do to an entire city.

As they pushed Heath Ledger to market the movie so much, I’ll deal with his performance first. Heath Ledger is not in this movie. He channels The Joker so all you see on screen is the maniac who tells a joke and no one laughs. Even when not on screen the Joker is there manipulating everyone and everything to show the frailty of the human spirit. When he is on screen he stalks and tumbles around everyone and you never know what will happen next. His magic trick is not one the kids will want to know. It is sad we will never see him act again.

Aaron Eckhart portrays the wonderfully tragic Harvey Dent as the saviour of Gotham City. You buy into his character and see why Bruce Wayne and James Gordan believe in him. As to what happens to him, well if you are a fan of the comic you’ll know his destiny, but it doesn’t make it any less chilling when it happens. I would love to see Eckhart as Hal Jordon or Steve Rogers.

Gary Oldman, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman are all as wonderful as they always are. We see more of Gordon’s passion to save the city, learn more of Alfred’s past in the British Army and see why Lucius Fox is one of Wayne’s most trusted advisors.

Most reviews have said this is Ledger’s film and The Joker is a brilliant screen villain. Everything he should have always been is there. However, the film is called The Dark Knight for a reason.

Christian Bale is the Batman and Batman is the greatest one there is. Bale fills the role of Bruce Wayne and Batman with ease. Wayne is in ascendance when he sees a chance to take off the mask when Dent cleans up the city and Bale portrays this so subtly yet so well, but Batman is always there pushing through the façade. We see more and more of the Bat as the film progresses and he is not always in costume. By the end of the movie he is pretty much all there is. You get to see Bruce Wayne’s vast intellect and huge fortune at work to get things done and this is what is really good about the movie. We see the Dark Knight Detective actually do detective work to track down the mysterious Joker. He questions suspects, investigates crime scenes and uses gadgets that could exist if you were a billionaire crime fighter. Batman always has a plan and can improvise brilliantly when things are not quite what they seem. We see someone who is fully capable of taking down a being such as Superman.

This is very much the Batman from the comics. There is a reason for the change in costume (which includes a sly dig at all previous Batman movies), we see the Batman with white eyes as in the comic and there is even a kind of mini Brother Eye that he uses to track down the Joker.

The film itself is superb. Many of the effects were done on camera so there is not too much CGI to pull you out of the film. It’s 152 minutes but they fly by and there is one point when you think it is near the end and you so want it to continue that when it does you have a great big smile on your face. Gotham City is not as big a character as we see in Batman Begins, but that could be due to Batman having cleaned it up some in the interim.

So many good bits in the film. Batmanuel as the Mayor, the genesis of the Bat Pod (which was in the first movie), the homage to the Michael Keaton / Jack Nicholson showdown. Bruce Wayne taking down the bad guys with ease. Batman leaping into the fray and taking down a Swat team before they realise it, the return of Scarecrow, the Joker getting into people’s minds and getting them to do whatever he wants. Harvey Dent flipping his lucky coin. There was one point when Batman is on top of a building listening into the phone network that you half expect Superman to land and see if he needs any help. The ending could also show the seeds which bring about Batgirl. I could go on.

The bad points. Well it would have been a 10 but there are a couple of small points which jar. Not much but they are there and are mainly due to the editing. One is when Batman leaps out of the Penthouse to save Rachel he leaves the Joker with a room full of very rich hostages, yet it then cuts to a few minutes after that and nothing is mentioned as to what happened. That and the aforementioned lack of character in Gotham itself. Small points I know, but they jarred nonetheless.

It richly deserves all the Oscar nominations it should get – screenplay should be the main one along with Best Director, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor for Bale and Ledger.

People will ask is it a good comic book movie. Iron Man was a great comic book movie. The Dark Knight is simply a great movie. It has moved beyond the comic book movies and is standing shoulder to shoulder with the all time classics.

Eckhart as Hal Jordan?

David Bentley at The Coventry Telegraph has news that Aaron Eckhart, fresh from The Dark Knight, may have his eyes on the lighter side of justice and that light is Green...and from a Lanter....yes Green Lantern (Ow that was a painful sentence wasn't it!) Apparantly, fans have had Eckhart earmarked as a potential Captain America and thinking about it he'd be pretty good as Cap (may be my next poll), and the fact he has already played Harvey "Two Face" Dent in a DC movie may have ruined his chances to play Hal Jordan. Still early days. I'll keep you posted.
