Fear Agent is blasting our way

Universal is in the early stages of developing Dark Horse's sci-fi comic Fear Agent. According to Risky Biz Blog, the project is an open-writing assignment at the moment, but the studio could match a spec script whose rights are controlled by Air Force One producer Jonathan Shestack and bring Shestack on to produce Fear Agent.

Fear Agent centers on a colourful, borderline alcoholic astronaut named Heath Huston, a Texan who works as a so-called fear agent, the last of a dwindling breed of spacemen whose mission it is to fight threats to the planet Earth, which is partly destroyed during the course of the series.

The property emphasizes a kind of in-your-face adventure as Huston hops around the galaxy fighting various alien species and threats.

Rick Remender penned the series, which began life in 2005 as an Image Comics property before moving to Dark Horse the following year.

Fear Agent blasting his way to the big screen

Dark Horse Comics’ sci-fi adventure series “Fear Agent” is headed for the big screen, according to creator Rick Remender.

In an interview with UGO that recently hit the ‘Net, Remender breaks the news that a big-screen adaptation of his ridiculously entertaining, genre-spanning “space cowboy” series is indeed “in the works,” and warns that saying more could endanger not only the project, but everything he holds dear!

“I can’t really say much more or they’ll kill my family,” said Remender. “They’re out there and they’re always watching… cruel and vicious Hollywood Black ops Agents. We have to be careful about who we say what to.”

However, Remender did feel comfortable throwing out some names of actors he’d like to see play Heath Huston, the alcoholic “hero” of the series.

“If I had my choice of the actor to play Heath Huston I’d say Jon Hamm or Aaron Eckhart,” said Remender.

“Fear Agent” debuted in 2005, and tells the story of an alien invasion of Earth and the creation of the “Fear Agent” squad tasked with eradicating alien threats to the planet. Texas native Huston is thrown from one (generally space-based) adventure to the next, battling threats that range from the comical to more horror-influenced elements. The series is currently written by Remender with art by Tony Moore and Jerome Opena.
