The Road - First listen to Nick Cave's soundtrack

Quiet Earth found this piece of news.
In this four minute report over at BBC4, arts correspondent Rebecca Jones manages to talk to screen writer Joe Pehnall, play an interview clip with the author of The Road himself, Cormac McCarthy, and most importantly of all play a portion of music that Australian rocker Nick Cave wrote for the film.

This is the first time a single note of the score has been heard outside of a few early screening rooms so check it out. It's haunting, simple, perfect. Still no word on the actual release date of the film but Jones does confirm that the film is finished.
Can't wait to see this film. The book was brilliant.

Aided by a daring aerospace engineer from a mysterious organization known as “The League,” Edward must stop the invaders and their doomsday device, the Gravity Engine.

Sophie is Archie's girlfriend. Archie thinks he is in love with Sophie, but Sophie is not sure they know what love is. Then one day, Archie decides to steal Billy fare and square from their repressive sister. Sophie decides to go along for the ride. The adventure that follows will force them to seriously consider: Do relationships rely on riding couches through automatic car washes? Is a toy radio really the cure to deafness? The Random - Monsters Inc 2, Rocky Marciano, Friday the 13th 2, Damn Yankees, Eclipse, Mars Needs Moms,

It seems we might get a new glimpse at our favorite monsters Mike and Sully in the next few years. Blue Sky Disney is reporting that Monsters Inc. director Pete Docter is working on a sequel to his 2001 hit Pixar film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mikael Salomon will be directing Undefeated: The Rocky Marciano Story. This is the first authorized biopic about the former boxing champion. He is the only one to ever retire and remain undefeated. The film looks at Marciano's early life up until his untimely death in a plane crash in 1969. Terri Apple wrote the screenplay.

According to The Risky Business Blog, New Line Cinema and Platinum Dunes are going full steam ahead on the next installment of Friday the 13th. Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, the writers that brought us the recent Friday the 13th reboot, are again drafting the script. The next film is being called "a follow-up."

In a story from Variety, it seems that New Line Cinema has attached Jim Carrey and Jake Gyllenhaal to their reboot of the famed musical, Damn Yankees. Writing the script are comedy veterans Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel. Beginning on a Broadway stage in 1955 the musical won seven Tony Awards. It focuses on the mild mannered Joe Boyd, a man who loves a pro baseball team so much that he decides to sell his soul to the devil in order to aid them. Currently, the hope is that Carrey will be the devil and Gyllenhaal will play Boyd.

According to Entertainment Weekly, it looks like Drew Barrymore is on Summit Entertainment's shortlist to possibly direct Eclipse, the third film in the Twilight series.

Seth Green will star in Walt Disney Pictures and ImageMovers' performance-capture feature Mars Needs Moms! says The Hollywood Reporter. An adaptation of the Berkeley Breathed children's novel, the story follows a boy named Milo (Green) who stows away aboard a spaceship to rescue his mom (Joan Cusack) after she was kidnapped by aliens. Mindy Sterling ("Austin Powers") will play the alien leader of Mars, inspiring terror in all who meet her. Dan Fogler (Fanboys) is playing Gribble, a friend of Milo. Elisabeth Harnois has also joined the cast.

Antonio Banderas has joined Woody Allen's next project says The Hollywood Reporter. He'll be joining Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins, Naomi Watts and Freida Pinto in the film which is scheduled to start shooting in London in the summer.

The Garden - Trailer for Oscar nominated documentary

The trailer for Scott Hamilton Kennedy’s The Garden, nominated for an Oscar for best documentary this year. Set for a theatrical release this Spring, the film will hit DVD this summer.

The fourteen-acre community garden at 41st and Alameda in South Central Los Angeles is the largest of its kind in the United States. Started as a form of healing after the devastating L.A. riots in 1992, the South Central Farmers have since created a miracle in one of the country’s most blighted neighborhoods. Growing their own food. Feeding their families. Creating a community.

But now, bulldozers are poised to level their 14-acre oasis.

The Garden follows the plight of the farmers, from the tilled soil of this urban farm to the polished marble of City Hall. Mostly immigrants from Latin America, from countries where they feared for their lives if they were to speak out, we watch them organize, fight back, and demand answers:

Why was the land sold to a wealthy developer for millions less than fair-market value? Why was the transaction done in a closed-door session of the LA City Council?

Why has it never been made public?

And the powers-that-be have the same response: “The garden is wonderful, but there is nothing more we can do.”

If everyone told you nothing more could be done, would you give up?

Could Chekov be the next Green Lantern?

MTV have some interesting news on a possible Green Lantern.

Star Trek” actor Anton Yelchin (Charlie Bartlett, Star Trek) is rumored to be the front-runner to play DC’s Green Lantern, Hal Jordan, after Ryan Gosling (“The Notebook”) and Emile Hersch (“Speed Racer”) passed on the role.

According to anonymous sources at
Latino Review, the “Green Lantern” producers are looking for a young star, but also someone familiar. The site named Yelchin, who plays Kyle Reese in the upcoming “Terminator: Salvation” and a young Pavel Chekov in the upcoming “Star Trek” film, as a potential candidate after Gosling, Hersch and upcoming “Clash of the Titans” actor Sam Worthington passed.

As one might expect, there’s some disagreement in the online world regarding the best candidate for the role of DC’s popular ring-bearer, with favorite actor of Joss Whedon, Nathan Fillion, and “Battlestar Galactica” star Jamie Bamber also popping up as potential stars. “Mad Men” actor Jon Hamm has also been mentioned as a worthy candidate to take up the role of Jordan

Hmm, not sure about this bit of news. He seems awfully young to play Hal. Not really watched him in anything though. What are your thoughts on it. If he is cast would he make a good Hal Jordan?

The Informers - New trailer

In such works as Less Than Zero and American Psycho, Brett Easton Ellis brilliantly dissects contemporary American society, a culture in which too much is never enough. Now, adapting his own acclaimed novel for the screen, he returns to the Los Angeles of the early 1980's with a multi-strand narrative that deftly balances a vast array of characters who represent both the top of the heap (a Hollywood dream merchant, a dissolute rock star, an aging newscaster) and the bottom (a voyeuristic doorman, an amoral ex-con).

Connecting all his intertwining strands are the quintessential Ellis protagonists—a group of beautiful, blonde young men and women who sleep all day and party all night, doing drugs—and one another—with abandon, never realizing that they are dancing on the edge of a volcano.

Filmed with uncommon glamour and grit by acclaimed Australian director Gregor Jordan, The Informers is an alternately blistering and chilling portrait of hedonism run amuck.

Director: Gregor Jordan
Cast: Billy Bob Thornton, Kim Basinger, Winona Ryder, Mickey Rourke, Austin Nichols, Amber Heard, Brad Renfro.

Eddie Murphy to play Richard Pryor. Who'll play Gene Wilder?

Some news from Entertainment Weekly.
Writer/director Bill Condon, who just completed his debut run as producer of the 2009 Academy Awards, is shopping his script Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said? to the studio subsidiaries and independent distributors around town. Eddie Murphy is attached to star. Sources tell EW.com that Fox Searchlight, the studio behind this year's big Oscar winner Slumdog Millionaire, is interested in the film. The studio, which declined comment, has a relationship with Condon, having partnered with the director on his 2004 feature Kinsey. Condon, who most recently wrote and directed Dreamgirls, had the Pryor biopic set up at The Weinstein Company but was able to pull it out when the indie outfit put it into turnaround. He initially was hoping to secure $30 million to produce the film, but that number, sources say, has dropped down to $25 million. Murphy, who has featured Pryor impersonations in his act as far back as the 1987 concert movie Raw, seems a likely choice for this role.
Is Eddie Murphy the right choice to play Pryor? Murphy was great in Dreamgirls, but his track record recently hasn't been so good.

The Naked Gun: What 4? -- The Rhythm of Evil.

Did you like The Naked Gun? You know, starring Leslie Neilson back when he was funny. I enjoyed the first one (loved Airplane! and Police Squad) but thought the sequels headed quickly downhill. Mind you they all had some funny bits and some highly quotable lines.

Now a Paramount employee gave Jeffrey Wells of Hollywood Elsewhere a copy of the script for The Naked Gun: What 4? - The Rhythm of Evil.

This is some of what he had to say about it
What makes funny funny? There's no explaining the how and why (and if you do you kill the joke), but I know it when I read it. And this script, penned by veteran sardonic-comedy guy Alan Spencer (Sledge Hammer, Hexed), made me laugh. It's funny in a dry, smart, surreal-toxic sexual way. But then I'm from Mars so what do I know?

On top of which the films that I direct in my head when I'm reading stuff like this are always underplayed in an Ingmar Bergman-esque way, and the tendency of many (if not most) professional comedy directors is to broaden and underline so the least sophisticated dolts in Mumbai will get the joke. But the best stupid comedies are never aimed low -- they're written and directed by smart guys, and played as straight as Hamlet and aimed at jazz musicians and corporate CEOs and people who donate foundation money. Because once you start winking at the audience, you're dead.

The three lead cop characters in Naked Gun: What 4? are Det. Vince Conklin ("Look, I represent the new America, the average person on the street desperate for change... like pennies, nickles, dimes"), Police Commissioner Roy McGlade (flip, blunt, crusty but benign) and Lt. Erica Litvak (30s, no-nonsense, a looker). Nielsen's Lt. Frank Drebin has been put out to pasture, of course -- living in Florida, golfing -- so it's wide open for whatever.

All I know is that "it's ugly out there....like a boil on the buttock of a Sumo wrestler suffering from excema." That's a throwaway line from page four, delivered by a minor character.
How do you like them apples?

Though the press event focused on his just-released third-person shooter for the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, the actor-rapper-producer also made an announcement that he is developing a new game-related film project.

"I'm optioning the rights to that now, so you'll see that before you see me attempt to do [a film adaptation of my games].
