Arnold talks about his cameo in Stallone's The Expendables and he's not sure about Terminator Salvation

In a recent story from The Arnold Fans the site caught up with California Governer Arnold Schwarzenegger at the "2009 Arnold Classic." Here is what Arnold had to say about Terminator Salvation and The Expendables.

On Terminator Salvation:

I have seen the movie, but I have not seen it as a finished product yet. I have not seen it yet with the Terminator special effects and some of the sound and the music is not in there yet and so on. So I really cannot comment on it, what the movie will be like as a finished product. There's a rule that you never talk about a movie unless you have seen the finished product. But you know as I said to the director when they began that I wish them the best of luck, that I'm happy that they move forward with the franchise, I am very happy with where I am with my profession as the governor and they should try to find a way of doing a story that does not include me at all, not even one single shot in it. I don't believe in that. To kind of have them go out and promote the movie and say you know Arnold is in the movie and everyone thinks that I'm the Terminator and in fact you only see one second of me in there and so I don't think thats the right thing to do. And you know that's the danger of that, and that's why I feel reluctant to be part of the movie in the first place. So it doesn't get promoted that way.

Regarding The Expendables:

But to talk about Sly's movie you know Sly and I we became very good friends over the last 10, 15 years, especially since the Planet Hollywood days. And we've traveled all around the world. and we've had a terrific time and so he was very helpful to me when I ran for governor. Or with any of the initiatives that were on ballot, he came to fundraising in different places and he was always there to pump up the people and all that. So I... naturally when he asked me if I would do a cameo, which will just be something quick, like I walk out of a hotel or out of a office building and he will walk up and we will bump into each other and there will be some mumbling and then we will walk off (crowd laughs). So it will be something very simple, that will be again, just a cameo, so that's what we're going to do. I promised him I'd do that and I'm looking forward to that. Ok? Good.

It does sound as if Arnie is distancing himself from the Terminator Salvation and his comments contradict McG's recent words about Arnie's likeness being captured by computer and used in the film. I think it would tie the previous films together quite nicely to see the genesis of the original Terminator.

Terminator Salvation - Early review sounds promising

Some early screenings of Terminator Salvation have taken place and it sounds like the trailers and footage we have seen so far have been bang on the money. This looks like it could be great.

Variety had this to say about it - Possible spoilers ahead:

McG exhibits an unexpected flair for the dreadful, abrupt and awesome. What we get here -- which was perhaps missing on the relatively sunny mental landscapes of "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" and "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" -- is a sense of real horror: When humans are snatched up like Cheez-Doodles by skyscraper-sized Go-bots, there's no slo-mo relief or stalling. Stuff happens as it might were the world actually overtaken by demonic appliances.

Christian Bale, playing the "prophesized leader of the Resistance" John Connor, may have traded in the Batman body armor for "Road Warrior"-style outerwear, but one thing hasn't changed: He is, once again, a movie star playing second fiddle. Heath Ledger stole "The Dark Knight" away from him and Sam Worthington (who will appear in Cameron's "Avatar" this Christmas) heists "Terminator Salvation" from Bale, for the most ironical of reasons: In a movie that poses man against machine, Worthington's cyborg is the far more human character.

As a steel-beaded logo of Warner Bros. fades away, Marcus (Worthington), on death row for an unexplained crime, gets an 11th-hour visit from Dr. Serena Kogan (Helena Bonham Carter), who wears the headscarf and pallor of a terminal cancer patient. She wants Marcus' body -- literally. She wants to turn him into a cyborg.

Wracked with guilt, resigned to his execution, Marcus agrees to sign the release in exchange for a kiss. "So that's what death tastes like," he says, as she leaves him to his lethal injection.

This is not your governator's "Terminator."

Bale, meanwhile, playing the adult version of the hero-to-be portrayed by Edward Furlong ("Terminator 2) and Nick Stahl ("Terminator 3"), is as purposeful and furious as anyone played by Arnold Schwarzenegger or Robert Patrick. One suspects he's been studying Linda Hamilton in "Terminator 2," although -- let's face it -- this is serious business. It's 2018. Skynet -- the "aware" machine -- has all but accomplished its self-appointed mission of destroying the threat of people.

But pockets of rebellion continue to operate even if, as in the case of a charred and rubble-strewn Los Angeles, the local contingent consists of just two kids: Kyle Reese (Anton Yelchin) and the mute/cute Star (Jadagrace).

Kyle -- given a slightly geeky and perfectly plausible portrayal by Yelchin ("Star Trek") -- will grow up to father John Connor after being sent into the future to meet Sarah Connor (if you haven't followed the "Terminator" time line, this is no time to be catching up).

Thus, he has to be preserved. So does John, given that it's been predicted since 1984 that he'll be the one to save the world. There's a lot at stake.

McG's direction is always intelligent. (He does seem to have a thing for "The Great Escape," which is referenced several times.) The script by John Brancato and Michael Ferris occasionally goes off the rails. Certainly, their insertion of an existential dilemma for Marcus -- "I need to find out who did this to me," he says, his chrome-plated plumbing having been exposed to the open air -- feels very late-inning.

And the obligatory borrowing from the previous movies ("Come with me if you want to live," "I'll be back ...") tend to upset the mood created within McG's bleached-out world, which is very deliberate and doesn't need the comic relief.

There are great bits though: The thrashing, centipede-like, killer-snake thingie, which has the personality of a wolverine, is a neat invention. So are the biker Terminators, which molt like malignant pinecones off their towering mother ‘bot. A Schwarzenegger lookalike -- it isn't clear whether it's the ex-actor CGI'd or a complete fabrication -- is funny, but in this case apt.

io9 also have some concept artwork for the Terminator Salvation film and here are a the Terminator models they have on show. Not sure of the reasoning behind some of them (the Moto-Terminator above seems a bit silly and it is a dreadful name). Let me know what you think of them and which one is your favourite.

Arnie will be in Terminator Salvation...to some degree.

McG was at the WonderCon recently bigging up the Terminator Salvation film. After the panel Q&A and the trailer had been shown, McG was interviewed by The Arnold Fans about Arnie and his appearance in the new film.

TheArnoldFans: Let's talk Arnold. What's the latest with the ILM footage. How does the young CG Arnold look?

McG: Ah, it looks reeeeeaal good. (McG confesses and sounds totally impressed and proud at last). Arnold just saw the movie two nights ago.

That's right Arnold fans, you heard it; because Arnold liked very much what he saw with Terminator Salvation and his CG likeness, he scheduled a call-back for the director. Arnold wants to do business!

McG: I'm going to see him AGAIN shortly and we're going to discuss what he wants to do and to what degree.

Terminator Salvation - Lots of skeletons in on-set photo

Radar Online got hold of some on-set photos for Terminator Salvation starring Christian Bale.

McG had this to say about the look of Terminator Salvation. "We talked to the people who monitored Chernobyl about what the world would sound and look and taste and feel like after the bombs have gone off."

If you have played Call of Duty 4 then you will no doubt dig the whole Chernobyl vibe for its weird otherworldliness.

The Random - Downsizing, Never Let Me Go, Up in the Air, Tree of Life, Terminator Salvation, Rape: A Love Story,

Paul Giamatti, Meryl Streep, Sacha Baron Cohen and Reese Witherspoon are rumored to be circling a project called Downsizing to be directed by Alexander Payne ("About Schmidt") says Hollywood Elsewhere.

Keira Knightley will star in the sci-fi thriller Never Let Me Go for Fox Searchlight and DNA Films says Variety. Mark Romanek ("One Hour Photo") will direct the cloning-themed film that also stars Andrew Garfield and Carey Mulligan.

Jason Bateman has signed on for Up in the Air for DreamWorks and the Montecito Picture Co. says Variety. An adaptation of the Walter Kirn novel, Jason Reitman ("Juno") helms the film in which George Clooney stars as a corporate downsizer who is obsessed with collecting frequent flyer miles at the expense of having a life.

Terrence Malick's upcoming film Tree of Life starring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn which has this description “...a family with three boys in the 1950s. The eldest son witnesses the loss of innocence.” apparantly also features dinosaurs according to Hollywood Elsewhere.

As previously mentioned Moon Bloodgood is going topless in Terminator Salvation. The story comes from SciFi Wire who heard McG and Moon Bloodgood talking at WonderCon about the scene in Terminator Salvation and saying that the topless shot would be in if they got the rating, and he asked the crowd about that who said they wanted the R rated version. Moon had this to say about it. “It's a really pretty shot. ... I'm actually being really serious…I wouldn't have done it first of all, ... if I felt uncomfortable. Secondly, it wasn't a sexual thing. I mean, obviously, it's a sexual thing. But it was like a silhouette, and there's rain, and it's a moment where I'm just like, I'm drawn to this man and I just don't care anymore. Like, if you see me, see me naked, see my vulnerablities, see my emotions, see my body. ... I just want him to see me…It just depends on if it's PG-13 or rated R”

Maria Bello, Abigail Breslin and Samuel L. Jackson have joined the indie drama Rape: A Love Story for Patriot Pictures reports Variety. Based on Joyce Carol Oates' 2003 novella, the story centers on a mother (Bello) recovering from a brutal gang rape who is stalked by the perpetrators but is protected by a sympathetic cop (Jackson). Breslin will play the woman's 12-year-old daughter, who witnesses the attack.

John Connor will have to prove he can lead Humanity

IO9 have word on an interview with Terminator Salvation director, McG. Looks as if John Connor won't automatically be the leader of humanity we know he becomes.

"The interesting thing about this movie is that Connor comes to be under suspicion. Command will look at him and say, 'How come you keep coming through these things alive? And you know so much about the machines? What is that all about?' And they point a finger at him while the audience is realizing..." and here McG's voice is raised to an indignant shout: "... that is fucking John Connor! If anybody is on the side of humanity, it is this guy!' One thing I learned from Amy Pascal at Sony," he muses, "is make sure your hero deserves all the credit in the world and gets none. And that is John Connor."

IO9 also say how this reminds them of Dynamite's Terminator: Infinity comic, where Connor is trying to rally the humans after Judgement Day, and he has a Terminator protecting him. Connor can't let the other human survivors realize his "buddy" is a machine, or they'll start mistrusting him.

McG also told Premiere how his movie begins. John Connor runs up and jumps in his helicopter. He thinks there's a pilot in there, but the pilot is dead with a gunshot wound to the head, thanks to a Terminator. Connor takes the controls of the helicopter and takes off, just as the communication outpost explodes below. It implodes before it explodes, like in a 1960s nuclear test film. The shock wave hits the helicopter, which goes into a flat spin. But Connor finally manages to land it.

The camera stays on Connor in his cockpit, and follows him as he crawls out of the crashed bird. "We shift to a steadicam and go with him, arch around until we see the body of the cloud of the explosion behind him, and we register his grief. But before he can do anything about it, he is interrupted by the hand of the Terminator which he landed on on the way in." And then Connor fights the Terminator, in a scene that mirrors his mom's fight against a Terminator at the end of the first movie. He finally destroys the Terminator with a machine gun.

Premiere watched the filming of some action sequences, including John Connor jumping off the edge of a destroyed freeway overpass, complete with mangled steel reinforcement rods and exposed water ducts. In another sequence, Connor is joined on the overpass by his resistance fighters, well-built humans wearing "leather chaps, leggings, kneepads, bulletproof vests, sunglasses or goggles, and all toting heavy-fire guns."

McG's team also created the destroyed landscape and post-apocalyptic scenery. It doesn't sound too reliant on CG or fakery, which should hopefully translate to a more realistic looking film.

The magazine also managed to confirm that Marcus Wright, the character played by Sam Worthington, is a member of the resistance who befriends Connor but turns out to be a "decommissioned Terminator." Wright's last memory is of being on Death Row, and Connor isn't sure whether to trust him. McG also explained why he chose Worthington: "Just wanted a guy who you could hit with a shovel and it would look like he could shake it off. I find that a great many of today's young male actors are pussies. They are waify, and they are all sort of heroin chic."

It's still possible Arnold Schwarzenegger may make a "special appearance" in the film. And Worthington says he wouldn't have done the movie if his main benefactor, James Cameron, hadn't given it his blessing. Also, Worthington says he and the other actors "hound McG all the time" to make the movie's story right, because there's already a Terminator TV show. So why should there be a new movie, unless it's saying something profound?

All in all it is sounding quite promising for the new Terminator movie.

Linda Hamilton may speak in Terminator Salvation

In an exclusive interview with MTV, Linda Hamilton (Sarah Connor) revealed for the first time that she’s in active negotiations to reprise her iconic role in this May’s Terminator Salvation.

“We are talking,” Hamilton told MTV “I haven’t read it yet. I don’t know what direction they will go in.”

While she awaits the specifics in a script, Hamilton already knows what her role generally would be. “My contribution would be voiceover,” she said. “I would probably be very happy to loan my voice depending on what the material is. Wait and see. They’re already writing it. We’ve been negotiating it.”

News of Hamilton’s likely involvement jibes with word coming out of last weekend’s New York Comic-Con, where “Salvation” director McG intimated that her participation in the reboot is essential. “She’s the greatest,” he said of Sarah Connor, adding that as an integral figure in franchise mythology, “one can imagine she plays an important role.”

Since he first began discussing the project and showing early footage, McG has been winning fans among the “Terminator” faithful for his commitment to honor the original films—a stance that Hamilton didn’t feel the makers of “T3” took. “They offered me a part,” she said. “I read it and I knew my character arc was so complete in the first two, and in the third one it was a negligible character. She died halfway through and there was no time to mourn her. It was kind of disposable, so I said no thank you.”

“I think [director] Jim [Cameron] was pretty clearly not going to be involved with the third one,” she continued. “His partner had sold the rights to the third one. Then they came back to Jim, but it was so far along after the fact that he’d moved on. And I wouldn’t be involved with it if it weren’t Jim Cameron. The third one was all right but it just didn’t have the heat and excitement that Jim can bring.”

McG talks about Terminator 5

Terminator Salvation gets closer each day and we will finally get to see some of the War with Machines that has been mentioned since the very first film.

McG has a great interview with FilmJournal about the new film.

Toughness was crucial for the movie because, as McG is fond of saying, Terminator Salvation is, at heart, a war film. Set several years following the events of Judgment Day—when the machines rose up against their creators and launched a nuclear attack that transformed the world into the kind of apocalyptic wasteland described in Cormac McCarthy's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Road (which McG cites as a major influence)—the movie follows the initial attempts of humanity's designated savior John Connor (Bale) to assert himself as the leader of the resistance movement. "I always like a becoming story, so I wanted to see the becoming of John Connor," McG says of the film's narrative arc. "When we meet him, he is not yet the leader of the resistance. You have to figure that when he first crawled out of the mountain—after the radioactivity had cleared to the degree where it was safe to populate the surface of the Earth—who would listen to him? I'm sure there would be other survivors who said, 'Fuck you, kid, get in line.' So he has to earn it every step of the way."

I love the fact he mentions The Road as an inspiration for the look of the film. McG then goes on to talk about the war that has so often been mentioned.

Rather than restrict the action to green-screen-lined soundstages, many of the film's biggest sequences were shot in the New Mexico desert and favor practical special effects—including real explosions and bullets—over CGI. "I wanted all of the action based in reality with a respect for physics and I wanted it to have a tactile reality for the audience. That's why we did so much practically, to really convey the difficulty of a world under duress. I didn't want clean, shiny Logan's Run Terminators. I wanted Children of Men/Mad Max Terminators."

The more realistic action scenes should give the film a real gritty tough look all in keeping with the Terminator future.

The most interesting part of the interview in my mind is when McG goes onto describe what he would like to see in the fifth installment of the franchise.

McG is already looking ahead to the next chapter in what the studio hopes will be another trilogy. "I strongly suspect the next movie is going to take place in a [pre-Judgment Day] 2011," McG reveals. "John Connor is going to travel back in time and he's going to have to galvanize the militaries of the world for an impending Skynet invasion. They've figured out time travel to the degree where they can send more than one naked entity. So you're going to have hunter killers and transports and harvesters and everything arriving in our time and Connor fighting back with conventional military warfare, which I think is going to be fucking awesome. I also think he's going to meet a scientist that's going to look a lot like present-day Robert Patrick [who famously played the T-1000 in Terminator 2], talking about stem-cell research and how we can all live as idealized, younger versions of ourselves."

Terminator Salvation Plot

As I've already posted a couple of Terminator Salvation stories I thought I would post this little snippet of the plot (I may have already posted it ages ago so apologies if this is old news).

In the highly anticipated new installment of The Terminator film franchise, set in post-apocalyptic 2018, Christian Bale stars as John Connor, the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet's operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind.

That's the plot. What are yout thoughts on what the terrible secret is? Probably that Skynet is taking humans and converting them into Terminator cyborgs. Basically hollowing them out and using them as shells for the endo-skeleton. That's what Marcus Wright will have been and for some reason they use his original memories as cover for the infiltration of human strongholds. Then it will turn out John Connor is one or something like that. That's my thought on it anyway. I always liked the Robocop v Terminator comic book where it turned out Murphy was the spark Skynet needed to gain self awareness.

Terminator Salvation - Lots of new photos

Yahoo have some new posters and photos released by Warner Bros for Terminator Salvation.
They feature Christian Bale, Sam Wortington, T-600's and other bits and pieces of McG's vision for the Terminator Universe. The new trailer is due out at some point today so keep checking back as I'll get it posted here as soon as it hits.
After Skynet has destroyed much of humanity in a nuclear holocaust, a group of survivors led by John Connor (Christian Bale) and his wife Kate, struggle to keep the machines from finishing the job.
The film is due out on 22nd May 2009.
I do like the look of the new Terminator film. It can't be any worse than Terminator 3 (although that did have a great ending). Are you excited for the new film? Will it rock?

Terminator Salvation at Comic Con

As I am stuck in good old Blighty I am not able to make it to the Comic Con. Hence the second hand info, but it's all good info. I had big doubts about this one, but they all seem to want to make the movie as good as they can, plus the Bale effect may make it even bigger.

AICN have some info about the movie.

"The Director, McG comes out to a stage already dominated by the above T-600 and paraded out names to appease the audience. He talked about speaking with James Cameron, Arnold Schwarzenegger and the writer is Jonathan Nolan who co-wrote The Dark Knight. Then he said Stan Winston’s designs are all over the movie."

"At both the panel and the press conference, McG removed any doubts that he was under pressure to deliver a PG-13 rating for the film. Referring to the studio executives for this film, McG explained “I’ve been given their blessing to make the picture…and if it’s a rated R picture, then that’s that.” He elaborated that he’s not against the idea of a PG-13 rating, but that the ultimate rating will depend completely upon what the final vision for the film is."

Some more snippets:

- Takes place 10 years before the t-800 model, seeing the state of the war before what we’ve seen in the T2 future war sequence.

- “We’re making a gritty and real terminator. It’s not for pansies. We’re making the terminator, you know?” Sam Worthington

- Skynet robots we will see are called Harvesters, transporters, hydrobots. Supposedly designed like Scott’s and Cameron’s Aliens universe.

- Will Schwarzenegger be back? McG dances around it, saying that the T-800 definitely is part of the mythology, but won’t say any more.

- They’re approaching it like Nolan approached BATMAN BEGINS.

- T-600 is the robot on the stage in the photo above

- Do we get to see what Skynet looks like? Yep. Studied Chernobyl for post-apocalyptic world.

- Film will be dedicated to Stan Winston.

- John Rosengrant was brought up, from Stan Winston Studios to talk about the machinery. McG’s analogy was the first Mac you bought was huge and had 2 megs of memory and today Macbook Air can control the world. The T-600s are bulky, huge, weathered… 7 feet tall. Soviet tank is the inspiration.

- Moon’s a pilot, Sam is Marcus and Moon takes Sam to an outpost led by John Connor. Moon and Sam are romantic interests.

- Bryce is Kate Connor. “What attracted you to this picture other than you get to make out with Bale?”- McG

- Common: “I’m just glad to be here, honestly. Every time I see the trailer and the clips I’m like, ‘I’m in the Terminator! I can’t believe it!’ We rollin’, man. ” – Common

-Film Treatment Will Be Silver to the Extreme - The movie was filmed with color stock but will be treated with as much silver as a typical black and white film, about 3x as much as normal. This gives the film an ethereal quality that suggests something is visually “off.” McG explained that he took some inspiration for the film from Children of Men, and based on what I’ve seen so far (which is extremely limited), this sounds quite plausible.

- The film will end on a cliffhanger - McG confirmed that the film will end on a cliffhanger at the Salvation press conference.

-2018, and the Kyle Reese Backstory Explained - The film will take place in 2018, the first Terminator movie set exclusively post-Judgment Day. It will have aspects of war films, as the humans unite to battle Skynet (which will also be featured). A lot of attention will be given to the T-600s, less advanced versions of the T-800 (the terminator model that Arnold played in the first three films). Given the complex, interweaving, and conflicting timelines in the collective Terminator films and The Sarah Connor Chronicles, McG has opted not to adhere too strictly to the mythology established in these works, but has worked on maintaining the vision of the first films, Cameron’s in particular.
Furthermore, we’ll see how Kyle Reese developed as a young man. We will find out the genesis of some of Reese’s best lines, and also find out that “some of the best moves that Kyle Reese has learned, he’s learned from machines.”

Could Terminator 5 be set in London?

The usually very reliable Rich Johnston over at Bleeding Cool had this little nugget of information.

I hear from industry sources that yet-to-be-named Terminator 5, the sequel to Terminator: Salvation, will be set in London in the year 2011, with a time-travelling John Connor (Christian Bale).

Not sure if this could be true or not. Very early days although back in April, Film Journal ran an interview with McG on his plans for a follow up to Terminator Salvation:

I strongly suspect the next movie is going to take place in a 2011. John Connor is going to travel back in time and he’s going to have to galvanize the militaries of the world for an impending Skynet invasion. They’ve figured out time travel to the degree where they can send more than one naked entity. So you’re going to have hunter killers and transports and harvesters and everything arriving in our time and Connor fighting back with conventional military warfare, which I think is going to be fucking awesome.

I think setting it in the UK will mix up the franchise a bit in a good way, and I wonder if it is anything to do with Bale wanting to shoot it back in his home country. Still as I've said this is very much a rumour, but it could lead to some pretty cool visuals. Now what would Skynet want with London?

McG tells us things about Terminator Salvation - Spoilers ahead.

McG was at WonderCon talking about Terminator Salvation. Sci Fi Wire have a whole host of spoilers that McG spilled. My favourite part is not really a spoiler. Just very good news:

"No, there's no chuckle," McG said in a group interview at WonderCon in San Francisco over the weekend. "There's very few chuckles in this movie. 'Talk to the hand,' Elton John glasses, that [has] no place in this movie. You know, [star Christian] Bale would have lit the set on fire. So, you know, we can't, we don't have that."

He then goes on to discuss the title and gives us some news about Sam Worthington's character which is not really that much of a secret. However, spoilers ahead just incase.

"We start this picture with Marcus [Sam Worthington] committing a rather substantial infraction. In fact, he's ultimately put to death, which is how he ends up with some metal rods in his body. And he learns that people—he doesn't believe that—but he learns from hanging out with these people that everybody deserves a second chance. Interesting stuff and confirmation of what many of us already knew.

He was then asked about what John Connor means when he said "This is not the future my mother told me about."

"The future being malleable, no fate but what we make? Well, the point being she told him everything she could tell him about the future, and we've only been given the clues that the T-800s will indeed be there in 2029, and what's going on with this movie, that speaks to "This is not the future my mother told me about," guys, I don't know what to tell you, ... is the coming of the T-800 ahead of schedule. It'd be like all of us sneaking into Hitler's Nazi Germany and saying, "There's a bunch of V-2 rockets with nuclear tips, we better haul ass back to Allied Command and tell them this is a serious game-changer. If these things go online, we've got a major, major problem." So that's the future that my mother never told me about. The fact that, you know, here comes the T-800 10 years prior to 2029, and we don't have our act together to a high enough degree to fight them with any effectiveness."

It will be interesting to see why the future has changed. Was it Arnie's travels in previous films? Marcus arriving on the scene? A scripwriter smoking too much pot?

McG then goes on to discuss Kyle Reece's character as played by Anton Yelchin.

"..this is a story about Michael Biehn's character Kyle Reese as played by Anton: seeing that people make sacrifices so that others may live. He witnesses that act at the end of the movie, and it's a precursor to "Hey, 10 years from now there's going to be a moment when they sit around and go, 'We need someone to go back and save Sarah Connor, and by the way, if you go back, you can never return to this world. Say goodbye to the ones you love, say goodbye to [everything]. Once you go back, that's it. It's curtains.'" And he, of course, you know, indeed dies as well. And as a function of what he saw first-hand in this film, he has the courage at that moment to say, "I'll go. I'll go." And this is why he became that guy. Which I like very much. ..."

What intrigues me the most about this last bit is when McG says, " he indeed dies as well." Is that a slip of the tongue or confirmation that the age old rumour that John Connor dies in this and has his skin placed on the Marcus robots endoskeleton? I'm just reading too much into that aren't I.

Terminator Salvation - Sneak peek at the preview

Later today, Entertainment Tonight will be premiering a sneak peek at the new Terminator Salvation movie trailer which is attached to Watchmen.

In the meantime ET has this sneak preview of what the new trailer will show.

It includes the Moto-Terminators in action, John Connor battling it out with a T-800 terminator, Connor kissing his wife Kate (Bryce Dallas Howard) and a brief PG-rated glimpse at the now infamous Moon Bloodgood “topless in the rain” scene.

It is rumoured that this latter scene is being used to make sure the film gets an R rating. Surely ultraviolent death spewing robots would have been enough for that?

Terminator Salvation: The Machinima Series (Ep. 1 Preview)

Two years before the events of Terminator Salvation, Resistance fighter Blair Williams embarks on a deadly mission to eradicate a technological threat that is weakening the Resistance's ability to fight a deadly A.I. called Skynet and its lethal array of Terminator machines.

The Resistance is the last hope for survival. Commanded by the remnants of a decimated military system, resistance fighters battle the machines of Skynet day and night without quitting. Blair Williams (Moon Bloodgood) is one of these fighters. Blair is in her early 30's and is old enough to remember a normal life but vital enough to learn how to fight. She is highly skilled and superbly courageous - traits that often get her some of the hardest missions.

We meet Blair at the beginning of one of these missions. She has been sent into the heart of downtown Los Angeles, a known hot zone, to seek out and destroy something called "The Ghost" - a code name designated to a machine designed to interfere with Command's communications. The resistance knows that Skynet is ever evolving and this must be just another tactic to bring down the leadership. Without the ability to talk to each other, the Resistance would simply fracture and collapse. It was already starting to happen.

Sarah Connor's voice will introduce Terminator Salvation

Last month Linda Hamilton mentioned that she was in talks to reprise her role as Sarah Connor for a voice over in McG’s Terminator Salvation. CHUD now has confirmation that she not only agreed to do it, but the voice over is already cut into the beginning of the film.

I think that is brilliant news. Linda Hamilton has done the intro on the other films so this will tie the new take on the Terminator universe with the older films.

Are you happy with the fact Linda Hamilton is going to do the voice over?

McG talks Terminator: Salvation - Is Arnie in it? Will Christian Bale be a Terminator? Will Bale be back?

/film have some news on whether Arnold Schwarzenegger will be in the Terminator: Salvation movie. When the California Governor was spotted on the set of the sci-fi sequels, rumors began to circulate that Arnold would be providing a capture of his face to implant on a younger actor’s body. Total Film was able to ask McG at a recent UK press event, and here is what the director said:

“We’re trying to synthesise a human character with a CGI character and that may or may not have something to do with the T800,” McG said with a smile. “At the moment it’s not good enough. And we’re running out of time.”

A little cryptic, but it seems like it might fit the previous theory/rumor. And speaking of rumors, McG claims that the rumored ending to the film where John Connor is replaced with a cyborg is completely false.

“That is not the ending. John Connor is not the machine. We did discuss that idea, but that is not the ending, I can say that right now.”

Christian Bale does speak the famous catch phrase “I’ll Be Back”, but in some sort of context that is 180 degrees reversed from the original film. McG also confirmed that Bale is signed up for two sequels, which McG claims are already “arced out.”

Terminator Salvation Teaser

It's due to be shown before The Dark Knight but here is the trailer for Christian Bale's one after - Terminator Salvation. This is the real thing and it looks rather splendid. Take a look and let me know what you think. I love the way the Terminator theme comes in through the static.
