Apparantly this was one of the most critically acclaimed works at the Toronto, Tribeca, and San Francisco International Film Festivals.

On the anniversary of his death, the remaining siblings visit the quaint home of their parents with their families in tow. Over the course of a beautiful day, new relatives become acquainted telling stories and squabbling over sizzling tempura and an elegant graveside ritual is performed for Junpei. Recalling the delicate splendor of Yasujiro Ozu's TOKYO STORY, Kore-Eda shows complete mastery of his characters while revealing the complex dynamics of an ultimately loving family with humor and warmth.

De Día O De Noche (By Day or By Night) - Trailer for Mexican sci-fi

This sounds like an interesting sci-fi film. The excellent Quiet Earth people did it again.

This trailer is about 8 minutes long so more of a short visit to the film where half the population live by day and half by night. Looks very nice. Let me know what you thought of it.

The story happens in the future and shows us how Mexico has changed: since everything is handled differently, we are very controlled and uniform, we are all equal and there is no physical contact or emotion. The government keeps the people repressed.

Furthermore, as a result of an enzyme located in the DNA, half the people left in cataleptic state to leave the sun, while the other half awake. (This is roughly translated). [So I'm guessing half the people live by day, and the other half by night.] However, emotions have not completely disappeared, only being anesthetized by the way of life to which they have been subjected by the authorities. Also, one of the characters Aurora meets a young man who works in the same place as her, but at night, and they fall in love.

Les derniers jours du monde (This is the End) - Trailer for the end of the World French style

This French film seems like it could be set in the same world as the excellent Last Night (check out the review), but with added sauciness!

It stars Mathieu Amalric (Quantum of Solace) and directed by Arnaud Larrieu and Jean-Marie Larrieu.

It's the last days on earth; a global apocalypse is about to destroy all mankind. As a final quest, a man (Robinson) sets on a journey from France to Spain, searching for the woman he once madly loved (Laetitia).

But as the world is turning upside down, Robinson’s odyssey takes an unexpected turn: most people - in the light of panic - have decided to simply enjoy their last days on the planet...In deserted castles and empty hotels, the few remaining survivors Robinson meets abandon themselves to some last moments of pleasure and lust.

Still, Robinson, though not refusing some temptations, is determined to reunite one last time with Laetitia, even if this means heading back to the high danger zone Paris...

What would you do if the world was to end tomorrow?

Life in One Day (Het leven uit een dag) - Trailer

This has a great story and reminds me of an old 2000AD Future Shock tale. It is based on a book by A. F. Th. van der Heijden.

In a world in which a human life lasts just one day and where every action is a one-off, a boy and a girl fall so in love that they cannot bear this existence where everything happens only once. In the belief that they can prolong their love they flee to hell.

Quiet Earth found the trailer and one of their readers gave this translation of the trailer.

You all know that in our life -which lasts one day- all mentionable events and feelings happen only one time.
So pay attention, because everything will be explained only once.
[ What's you're name?
Gini, and you? ]
Life and also love derives it's great intensity from this.
As in all important happenings in our life, also the act of love happens only once and can not be repeated.
[ The feeling I just had with you, I want to feel it again.
Benny what do you want?
To the world of repetition. To the place where we repeatedly can feel what we just felt.
But how do we get there? ]
For reasons of protecting the society the court hereby orders the suspect to death.
[[ Two loved ones ]]
[[ In a different world ]]
[[ Looking for each other ]]
I'm looking for my girlfriend.
Did you think you were the only one?
Maybe she has found someone else?
If he doesn't show up you must fall in love with someone else as fast as possible.
Is she here or is she not here?
It's useless to believe in everlasting love. Also here.
Do you really love me?
I think you are my true love.
We are meant for each other Gini. We will find each other no matter where.
[[ Life in one day ]]
[[ September third in Cinema's ]]
