Bryce Dallas Howard joins The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

Summit Entertainment announced today that Bryce Dallas Howard will take over the role of "Victoria" in the studio's upcoming production of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Actress, Rachelle Lefevre, who portrayed the character in Twilight as well as the upcoming release of The Twilight Saga's New Moon, will not continue in the role due to scheduling conflicts with another commitment the actor has made. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse will start filming in Vancouver this coming August.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, the third film in the studio's Twilight film franchise based on Stephenie Meyer's blockbuster book series, will be directed by David Slade from a screenplay written by Melissa Rosenberg. The film will be released theatrically in North America on Wednesday, June 30, 2010.

"We are incredibly happy that Bryce has agreed to come into the franchise," said Erik Feig, Summit's President of Worldwide Production and Acquisitions. "Rachelle brought "Victoria" to great screen life and Bryce will bring a new dimension to the character. The franchise is lucky to have such a talented actress as Bryce coming in to fill the role."

Howard most recently starred in Terminator Salvation as Kate Connor and has been seen in Spider-Man 3, Lady In the Water, and The Village. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for her leading performance as an actress in the HBO film As You Like It.

In The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob - knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.

Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett

Kristen Stewart is finishing filming New Moon and is starting on The Runaways. The photo above shows her as Joan Jett. The biopic is being written and directed by Italian music video director Floria Sigismondi.

Dakota Fanning will play Cherie Currie, Stella Maeve will play Sandy West, and Alessandra Torresani will play Lita Ford. The Runaways were a rock band from the 70's best known for songs like "Cherry Bomb," "Queens of Noise," "Neon Angels," and "Born to Be Bad." The group was active for roughly four years and disbanded amidst money and management disagreements in 1979. The story in the movie will center on Jett and Curie specifically and detail the rise and fall of the group.

Do you think Stewart manages to look like Joan Jett?

Emile Hirsch to play Hamlet

Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild, Milk, Speed Racer) has signed on to play Hamlet in a new feature adaptation of William Shakespeare’s renowned tragedy. Catherine Hardwicke, fresh off directing Twilight, is set to direct the film with a script by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Ron Nyswaner (Philadelphia).

Hamlet tells the story of a young man faced with the dilemma of whether he should exact revenge on his father’s killer. In true Shakespearean form, the murderer happens to be his uncle. This version, similar to the 2000 adaptation staring Ethan Hawke, will be set in present day America.

Catherine Hardwicke on her vision of Hamlet:
“I had a great time working with Emile on ‘Lords of Dogtown’, so when he suggested ‘Hamlet’, I was intrigued. We read the play aloud and when I heard Emile speaking Shakespeare’s amazing words, I was flooded with images. We edited the play tightly, making the words extremely accessible. In our version, we’re working hard to make ‘Hamlet’ a thrilling cinematic experience — the violent, intense, and romantic scenes that happen ‘off-stage’ in the play will be shown in vivid detail.”
Oscar winning producer’s Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen (MILK) on their different take on Hamlet:
“This project was the brainchild of Emile Hirsch, who we had the pleasure of working with on ‘Milk’. Hamlet was in college when the story takes place, yet there hasn’t been a movie version with an appropriately-aged actor playing the role. Our goal is to present the story as a suspense thriller. We want to make it exciting and accessible for an audience today,” Jinks and Cohen said in a joint statement.
I do like Emile Hirsch as an actor. I thought he was stunning in Sean Penn's Into the Wild. How do you feel about another version of Hamlet?

Madeline Stowe to direct Wolverine, a sparkly vampire and Rachel Weisz

Hugh Jackman, Rachel Weisz and Robert Pattinson will star in the period drama Unbound Captives for Hyde Park Entertainment reports Variety.

Madeline Stowe and her husband, actor Brian Benben, penned the script under the pseudonym O.C. Humphrey back in the early 90's.

Variety have the news and go on to say that Madeline Stowe was offered $3 million for the script in 1993 and later $5 million, but she turned the offers down.

“There was never a moment's hesitation on my part, but it felt unreal, and I can
remember my husband putting a finger across his neck to signal not to take the
offer...Gil made me realize it when he said there isn't anyone who's going to
make the movie you want to make...”

Originally she had hoped to take the lead role for herself when she wrote it, but now she wants to direct the film about a woman (Weisz) whose husband is killed and her two children kidnapped by a Comanche war party in 1859.

She is rescued by a frontiersman (Jackman), while Pattinson will play the son.

“I saw three actresses, and knew after meeting with Rachel that she was the
person I wanted to hand this role to...Robert said yes last fall, before
everything broke with 'Twilight.' Hugh said yes a couple of weeks ago.”

Intersting news and good to see them sticking to their guns.

Elevator Men - Not your romantic type of Vampire film

Summit Entertainment is in the process of scooping up former DreamWorks exec Marc Haimes' original screenplay "Elevator Men." The producer deals are still in flux but would include Mark Gordon Prods. execs Gordon and Josh McLaughlin ("12 Rounds"). Gordon took the script into Summit.

Summit's Erik Feig and Jean Song will oversee for the studio.

The dark thriller, which likely will change titles, takes a less romanticized look at the human-vampire interactions depicted in such recent movies and series as Summit's "Twilight" and HBO's "True Blood."

"It's a reaction to all of these stories now -- TV shows and movies -- that play this kind of romantic, fantastical, sexy aspect of getting involved with monsters," Haimes said. "This is the dark, sinister version of what really happens when you decide you're going to get close to really bad things. That fantasy element is something I wanted to look at and play the exact opposite: the grim reality of bedding down with a monster." The creatures play diabolical mind games with people, including one that involves an elevator, hence the title.

Haimes, repped by WMA and Benderspink, was an executive at DreamWorks for more than 13 years until the studio split from parent Paramount last year. While there, he developed such thrillers as "Collateral," "Red Eye" and "Disturbia" for the studio as well as "Hotel for Dogs" and "Transformers."

This is Haimes' first screenplay. He is finishing a second spec called "Jitters," a family film he describes as in the "traditional Amblin" mold.

"It's a totally different muscle," Haimes said of segueing from the studio creative side to original storytelling. "It's like Dave Grohl playing drums for Nirvana and then taking on a different instrument in the Foo Fighters."

Summit president of production Erik Feig tells
The Los Angeles Times that "The 'Eclipse' directing job hasn't been offered to Juan Antonio or anyone else. We’ve met with three or four talented filmmakers and we'll be meeting with three or four more other candidates before we make any decision. No one has been offered the job."

Meanwhile photos of cast members on the set of "The Twilight Saga's New Moon" have emerged at
Spoiler TV. There's nearly a hundred shots of all the returning cast members including the buffer new Taylor Lautner, leading lady Kristen Stewart, and of course Robert Pattinson.
