Ghost Rider 2 - Cage shares his thoughts

The first Ghost Rider film was pretty bad. I so wanted it to be good as I always loved the comic. Yet the film was just a mess of bad effects, poor story and wonky acting.

With regards to Ghost Rider 2 Sony and Nicolas Cage were still looking for a writer and director to helm the sequel.

Now the actor told MTV News that he’s looking less toward “sequel” and more toward “reboot” for the next film.

“I would like to do a reconceive,” Cage told MTV News. “I would like to go in a whole other direction, and I think that’s what they’re talking about.”

According to Cage, he’s still leaning toward a Ghost Rider movie that brings the skull-faced Marvel Comics hero to Europe for a team-up with Catholic Church.

“I would make it much less of a Western and more of an international story,” said Cage of the direction he’d take the character for the next film.

They should definitely try and use some of the storylines from recent issues of the comic as they have been superb.

What do you want to see in a Ghost Rider sequel? Should Cage still be in it? How could they make it better? Should it be a sequel or a reboot?

UPDATED: Deadpool to kick Captain America in the nuts according to Ryan Reynolds

Ryan Reynolds has been chatting about the Deadpool film that is spinning off from X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

They are still looking for a finished script, but Reynolds says he is involved. However, it looks as if the tone for the film could be just right going by what Reynolds had to say.

Look, I'm into any role in which I get to kick Captain America in the nuts,...Yeah, it's in the works. That's about all I can really say. They're actively hashing [it] out. I'm meeting with them all the time. We're in constant contact, and it's just a matter of breaking the spine of the story and figuring out what it is and who's the villain.
UPDATE: Here's a little more from the interview:

REYNOLDS: We're just trying to get it right. There's so many variables to play. It's tough because when you have a character like Deadpool, to the greatest extent of your power, you want to bring as much authenticity to that character as possible. And by "authenticity," I don't mean that you'd want to make him somebody that you'd have a Starbucks coffee with, I mean that you want to make him as close to the comics as possible. And there's nothing that I wouldn't do to make sure that ends up on film, but sometimes things are out of your control, things that you can't change. But I'm really happy, in these early talks, that the studio is as obsessed with making it as close to the comic book source material as possible. And that's all I really needed to hear. Cuz I will husk-f*@k a herd of cattle to bring Wade Wilson to life as the real deal.

Will there be any real effort to make it fit within the continuity of Wolverine? Or will you just allow it to be its own thing? (This clip shows how Deadpool ended up in the alternate ending of X-Men Origins: Wolverine).

REYNOLDS: Without saying too much, I can't imagine that there's gonna be any tie-in to the Wolverine movie at all.

You've said previously, the Deadpool we glimpse in Wolverine isn't necessarily the character you'd want to play. You've spoken about doing the more self-aware

REYNOLDS: Absolutely! That's the reason to do it…There's nothing else like that in movies, or comic books, for that matter. I would like to make him self-aware; I'd like to have a bit of a pop-culture air going on throughout the film. I mean, the greatest villain in a Deadpool comic is Deadpool. There's a lot you can do there, but you've gotta ask, "Who's the boss? Who's the guy he's going up against?" But it's breaking the fourth wall; it's including all those things in a way that works, but it's not nearly as hard as it sounds. It can really be done. And people tend to overlook the greatest resource we have, which is the comic book. If it can be done in the comic, it can be done on film in a way that's just as much fun to watch for people who know nothing about the character than for people who are obsessed with the character.

Not to belabor the point, but Deadpool is really the character where, if you're casting Deadpool, you're a smart choice for that. It works with much of what you've done already – the comedy, the drama.

REYNOLDS: Yeah, all those things. And I have ideas for it that I think are right in tune with the tone of that character. I'm dying to see them on film. Literally, dying. So many of the outlets that follow this character are curious what the elements will be, afraid that you won't be disfigured, that you won't wear the mask, and I laugh because there's no way to do this without having the scarring, having the mask, having it all. And it can be done. It's a no-brainer in that sense. You gotta have the character of Deadpool. You don't want to just invent something new and call it Deadpool.

Wouldn't it be great if they could tie Deadpool into the intermingling world of Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and the Avengers over at Marvel Studios. Unfortunately as it is being made by Fox this may not happen. What characters to do you want to see in the Deadpool film?

Danny Graves' Man Cave

Sony Pictures has purchased the original comedy screenplay "Danny Graves' Man Cave," written by Jacob Isser and Paul Lutz.

Joe Roth, who most recently produced "Hellboy II: The Golden Army," will produce through his Roth Films banner.

The story line follows a suburban husband and father going through a midlife crisis who discovers a mysterious man-cave in his basement. The fantasy world provides his version of the perfect life, which ultimately gets called into question.

Sounds to me like a more grown up version of Coraline mixed in with Being John Malkovich.

It was said that Bruer did mention the year 2011 in regards to the film, but it wasn't clear if that was when they were targeting these three films for release or not.

UPDATED: The Green Hornet Lives and Adam Sandler could be joining him

There was a rumour knocking about the other day that The Green Hornet was being put to sleep by Sony.

However, a recent update from the film's writer and star, Seth Rogen, shows that rumor is not true.
Rogen contacted HitFix and told them that Sony still has every intention of making it.

"[The studio heads] have every intention on making it, and assuming we're able to hire a new director in the upcoming weeks, which seems like a distinct possibility, it should still hit the release date,"
Not only is he starring in the film and co-writing it, but he's also producing, which means he is in the know as to what will happen.

So it looks like Sony is still going ahead with The Green Hornet and they're trying to find a new director. And according to AICN, it looks like Stephen Chow also still remains attached as Kato.
UPDATE: The LA Times says that Adam Sandler will be taking on “a brief but key role in the movie as a certain surprise superhero.” I've no idea who that could be. Maybe The Shadow or Doc Savage maybe?

Moon - Some clips from Sam Rockwell's sci-fi film

Thanks to Daan for pointing these out on Collider.
On 23rd January it was announced that Sony Pictures Classics, the independent arm of Sony, has decided to pick up Moon for distribution. The indie studio is planning to debut Moon in theaters starting in late June.

"I have always hoped for the opportunity to work with Sony Pictures Classics on the distribution of our film, even before arriving at Sundance," director Duncan Jones told Variety.

God Help Us! Brett Ratner to make God of War

Coming Soon mention that director Brett Ratner (X-Men: The Last Stand, Red Dragon, Rush Hour) has finally confirmed that he is attached to direct the God of War movie in an interview with UGO.

Universal Pictures secured the movie rights to the popular video game created by Sony Computer Entertainment back in the summer of 2005. Mosaic Media Group's Charles Roven and Alex Gartner were announced as producers at the time.

Set in ancient Greece, the game follows the battles of the warrior Kratos, who tackles mythological beasts including Medusa, Cyclops and the Hydra. Players navigate Kratos on his quest to find Pandora's Box and destroy Ares, the god of war.

The game, created by David Jaffe and Shannon Studstill, was released for PlayStation 2 in March of 2005. A sequel was released in March of 2007 and a prequel, exclusive to PlayStation Portable, in March of 2008. A third title is in development for the PlayStation 3.

In addition to God of War, Ratner also mentioned he has Playboy and Beverly Hills Cop 4 in development as well.

We've got his movie, 2 Hercules and a Jason and the Argonauts being made along with a remake of Clash of the Titans. The next few years are going to be sword and sandals all over the place!

What do you think of this news? Never played the game - is it good and would it make a worthy movie? Is Ratner the one to make that movie?

Shot from Ghost Rider used in The International trailer

This from /film - The same exact shot from Ghost Rider, was used in the new trailer for The International. Both films are produced by Columbia Pictures / Sony, so they obviously own the rights to the footage. In the Ghost Rider clip, which can be seen here, the car explodes as Ghost Rider rides by the car on his bike. In the International trailer, the Ghost Rider CG is absent, and the clip is shown right after someone enters something into an ATM machine.

First Showing also think some footage is from Black Hawk Down - Tom Tykwer, who directed The International, is a European filmmaker. He's got a lot of style in his films and I bet this really doesn't have as much explosive action as the studio wants. So to beef up the marketing and capture the attention of the Michael Bay-hungry audiences of America, they threw in an exploding car and some extra helicopters. Yep, that's how our society works. From the trailer for The International, the exploding car can be found at 0:22, while the helicopters (that I think are from Black Hawk Down) are at 0:51.

The top image is the one from Ghost Rider, the one below is from The International.

The International stars Clive Owen and Naomi Watts. An Interpol agent (Owen) attempts to expose a high-profile financial institution's role in an international arms dealing ring. Oh and it also stars Remy Auberjonois who is the son of Rene Auberjonois who was Odo in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine!

Candyman Remake?

Shocktilyoudrop have news on a possible remake of the Candyman who appears if you say his name five times while looking into a mirror. I could never figure out why you would actually want to do that which makes him quite ineffective as a movie Big Bad.
Shock learned today Sony and the rights holder to the film franchise -
which has spanned three installments - are mulling over plans to resurrect the
hook-handed, pimp coat wearin' urban legend made famous by Tony Todd. It's all
"early talks" (I was told one idea was to make the titular killer a Caucasian
fella) with no writer or director attached at this time.

Candyman's screen life - based on Barker's short story The
Forbidden - began in '92 at Sony. He bounced from MGM then to Artisan for the
sequels Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh and Candyman: Day of the Dead,
respectively. The third chapter was released in '99.

Venom Spin-off

Well the Joker did say things had been changed forever. He was the big sell for The Dark Knight and it looks like Sony want a piece of the action. They are currently trying to get a script together for a Venom spin-off from the Spider-Man franchise according to Hollywood Reporter. Sony had said Spider-Man 4 would be out in 2011, but not sure how this Venom project will effect that.

Good news is Topher Grace is being ditched and they'll be looking for a bigger name to play Eddie Brock (or maybe Mac Gargan - he was the Scorpion in the Spidey universe, but the Symbiote took hold of him and now he eats people and is very nasty).

Now Venom is a pretty cool character but there's only so much you could do with him. Plus Eddie Brock and the Venom symbiote have an intense loathing of Spider-Man. Therefore, if Spidey is not in this movie then I'm not sure who he will be fighting.

What do you think about this? What other comic book or movie villians could have their own spin offs?
