District 9 - New photo of a big flamethrower / gun thing

Thirty years ago, aliens made first contact with Earth. Humans waited for the hostile attack, or the giant advances in technology. Neither came. Instead, the aliens were refugees, the last survivors of their home world. The creatures were set up in a makeshift home in South Africa’s District 9 as the world’s nations argued over what to do with them.

Now, patience over the alien situation has run out. Control over the aliens has been contracted out to Multi-National United (MNU), a private company uninterested in the aliens’ welfare – they will receive tremendous profits if they can make the aliens’ awesome weaponry work. So far, they have failed; activation of the weaponry requires alien DNA.

The tension between the aliens and the humans comes to a head when an MNU field operative, Wikus van der Merwe (Sharlto Copley), contracts a mysterious virus that begins changing his DNA. Wikus quickly becomes the most hunted man in the world, as well as the most valuable – he is the key to unlocking the secrets of alien technology. Ostracized and friendless, there is only one place left for him to hide: District 9.

District 9 - Amazing new trailer

Here is the new trailer for Neill Blomkamp's District 9. This is the film with aliens coming to Earth and being put in camps in South Africa. Peter Jackson has produced it.

Quite frankly it looks stunning. Very documentary in style, but the effects look incredible - you see more of the aliens, more spacecraft, mech armour, baby aliens (check out the PSA to see how the aliens reproduce) and more. The trailer also gives you a better look at the tale. What are the humans at MNU doing with the aliens? What is happening to the MNU guy when he gets sprayed by some alien chemical?

How good does it look? It is due out on 15th August.

District 9 - New Poster

While we wait for the new trailer for Neill Blomkamp's sci-fi film which is supposedly showing this Friday before Bruno, here is the latest poster.

I'm not sure if Bruno is the best film for it to be showing with, but it should reach a lot of people.

It is produced by Peter Jackson and is looking very good indeed.

You've got to wait until the 14th August before the film is released.

In the meantime here is the first trailer again.

District 9 - For Humans only

It looks like the ad campaign for Neill Blomkamp's excellent looking aliens among us film, District 9, is getting the big push.
Produced by Peter Jackson these new posters and ads are beginning to crop up in various places. I wonder if anyone who knows nothing of the film will buy into what they are saying?
Have you seen any more posters for the film?

District 9 - New Photo

Here is a new photo, via /film, from Neill Blomkamp's District 9. It doesn't really show anything new, but I just love the gritty reality everything seems to have in this film. It's a great spacecraft and you really feel it is actually there.

District 9 - Teaser Trailer is finally with us

The film depicts a fictional world where extraterrestrials have become refugees in South Africa. Wikus (Sharlto Copley) is a Multi-National United agent who becomes infected by alien biotechnology. He must go on the run from the oppressive government into District 9, a internment camp where “non-humans” have been forced to live since landing on Earth nearly 30 years ago.

District 9 is both written and directed by first-timer Neill Blomkamp, a South African filmmaker who previously directed the Halo: Arms Race shorts. Peter Jackson is the Producer.

District 9 - First photo from the Peter Jackson produced Sci-Fi film

District 9 is slowly filtering through to the mainstream. I last posted a few videos and things on it back in January (including Neill Blomkamp's short that it is based on - check them all out).

An extraterrestrial race forced to live in slum-like conditions in Johannesburg, South Africa suddenly find a kindred spirit in a government agent that is exposed to their mysterious biotechnology.

District 9 is both written and directed by first-timer Neill Blomkamp. Blomkamp is the South African born short film and commercial director who was hired to direct a big screen adaptation of Halo before “financial problems” forced the project back into development. District 9 is a sci-fi project produced by Peter Jackson.

Seen in the photo above (via /film) is the character Wikus (Sharlto Copley), a Multi-National United agent who becomes infected by alien biotechnology. He must go on the run from the oppressive government into District 9, a internment camp where "non-humans" have been forced to live since landing on Earth nearly 30 years ago.

There was trailer due out with Crank 2: High Voltage, but it was pulled. However, as District 9 is due out in August we should be seeing a trailer very soon.

District 9 - More news on Peter Jackson's alien thing

Been a while since I posted anything on District 9 (Peter Jackson and Neill Blomkamp's science-fiction film - previous news on it is here), but Jinja has delivered the goods once again. He has found a couple of viral web sites which seem linked to the film. Firstly there is this video from MNU Spreads Lies that features the image frim the poster for the film (MNU is Multi-National United).

From what we can gather it is all about about a fictional/parallel world where aliens have become refugees in South Africa as per Neill Blomkamp's short film (shown below).

Then there is Maths From Outer Space that states:
Maths From Outer Space wants to redefine what it means to be human! Our scientists have found a way to enhance the spatial and logic capabilities of the human body. By synthesizing earth-based proteins with DNA from our other-worldly friends, the MFOS program will enhance your natural physical and mental capabilities. In other words, we've found a way to make you smarter! Would you like to see if you are qualified to take part in this exciting endeavor?

This also appears to be linked to MNU. Also check out the official District 9 site if you haven't already.

All very intriguing stuff and still not much on the actual film itself. If you have stumbled across anything that you think could be related then let me know. Thanks once again to Jinja.

Oh and I just stumbled across this little video that goes into some more detail about the District 9 viral campaign.
