UPDATED: Dan Aykroyd talks Ghostbusters 3

The Los Angeles Times recently caught up with Dan Aykroyd who confirmed that Ghostbusters 3 is in development at Columbia Pictures and may start filming in the winter:

Aykroyd said Sigourney Weaver is on board now, as are the original squad ofectoplasmic specialists -- Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson. Murray's presence was the pivot point in making a third film happen.

"We could be in production by winter."

The script is by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, the writing team behind the upcoming Jack Black/Michael Cera movie Year One (directed by Ramis), and Aykroyd is enthused about its premise of a new generation of Ghostbusters taking over the duties of the aging team.

Aykroyd said he wishes Ivan Reitman would return to direct the third film in the
series but that he's "too busy as a mega-producer" to take it on; his second
choice is Ramis, who, of course, co-wrote the first two Ghostbusters films with
Aykroyd and has numerous directing credits, most notably Groundhog Day and
Analyze This. "He has a lot of things going on, but it would be wonderful to see
him do it."

The details of story are still in play, but Aykroyd said he's hoping for a five-member "new generation" team with several female members. "I'd like it to be a passing-of-the-torch movie. Let's revisit the old characters briefly and happily and have them there as family but let's pass it on to a new generation."

He then mentions Alyssa Milano (who provided a voice for the upcoming video game) and Eliza Dushku as potential options. Nothing concrete about those two, but I could see Dusku as a Ghostbuster.

UPDATE: The two actresses Dan mentions quickly got onto this and had this mini-conversation on Twitter.

Alyssa Milano: Can't speak for @ElizaPatricia (Hi, pretty lady)but this is the first I'm hearing of Ghostbusters 3. Did the VO in the game tho.

Eliza Dushku: Ghost-rumor-buster in a big way @Alyssa_milano (hey girlene) it's nuthin' I know of.

Lonely Street - Trailer for a film starring Elvis and a character called Bubbha...haven't we heard this one before?

Nope, this isn't Bubba Ho-Tep. This is something a little different.

Bubba may not be Albuquerque's most successful private detective, operating from a seedy Motor Inn on Route 66 amid hookers and dope dealers, but when a man named J.G hires him as a bodyguard to protect a visiting celebrity from an overzealous fan, Bubba sees it as easy money. Easy until the celebrity seems to be the living Elvis - determined to keep a low profile - and the fan turns out to be a sleazy tabloid reporter - determined to break the story that the King is still alive. Bubba's predicament grows darker when the reporter winds up dead in a motel room, and Bubba becomes the number one suspect after the King and J.G. skip town.

Directed by Peter Ettinger.

Starring Ernie Hudson, Jay Mohr, Joe Mantegna and Robert Patrick

Ghostbusters Video Game Trailer

While we wait for the inevitable disappointment that Ghostbusters 3 will bring here is a trailer for the forthcoming Ghostbusters video game. It looks splendid and they do appear to have got the likeness to the actors spot on. Also great to hear Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson back together. It's due out in June 2009. Will you be picking it up?

Snoop Dogg's 'Hood Of Horror', 2006 - Movie scnizzle review-izzle

You'll have to bear with me here readers, this is a hidden gem! I found it on Halloween night after a nights graft in the pub. I came home, feet throbbing, mind far too sober for a friday night, and slammed on the magic Virgin TV box-thingy in the corner with lots of flashing lights.

'Lets check out the 99p offers shall we?' I suggested to myself, had a vote, and won.

This was the one that drew my eye instantly. I love Snoop, dont get me wrong, but I've never really given him much wieght as an actor (see Mr. Bones or Dr. Bones, it's so shit I can't remember the title). I paid my money, made me smoke, cracked the stella and settled down.

It was ace.

The film opens with a fantastic anime sequence, lasting about 10 mins if memory serves me right (regular readers will know that my eyes kinda go quite frequently). It was really top quality and so unexpected I couldnt take my eyes off the screen. Jaw dropping stuff, even Manga Snoop looked a nice balance of cool/evil/unspoken threatening. Then the film moved into the next phase, live action filming, but the film has an old style quality to it. The three interlinking 'short scary stories from The Hood' have the look of the 70's Twilight Zone:The Movie. Bright jumpers, off-colour orange everywhere, ya know?

To be honest, I was outta phase when the live action was on, like stepping through the Time Tunnel, but each story was interspersed with more anime, a story within a story (I see plans within plans). Wish I could tell you more, but I can't. Take my word for it, it was 99p and it really kicked arse. Seek it out.

It was a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there...

Dragonball Promo Teaser released - Is it any good? You Decide

A promo teaser for Dragonball was shown at Brand Licensing Europe 2008 this week. That video has now leaked online and can be watched using the player below. The full trailer will be released with Max Payne.

Written and directed by James Wong, the April 10 release stars Justin Chatwin, James Marsters, Jamie Chung, Emmy Rossum, Eriko Tamura, Joon Park, Chow Yun-Fat, Texas Battle, Randall Duk Kim and Ernie Hudson.

20th Century Fox is releasing the Dragonball movie in theaters everywhere on April 3rd, 2009.

Original cast will be in Ghostbusters 3 for a little bit

Harold Ramis is the one who confirms that the original cast will be back merely to mentor the new Ghostbusters team, and he does so in an email to The Chicago Tribune through Latino Review. In it he says:

“yes, Columbia is developing a script for GB3 with my Year One writing partners, Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg. Judd Apatow is co-producing Year One and has made several other films for Sony, so of course the studio is hoping to tap into some of the same acting talent. Aykroyd, Ivan Reitman and I are consulting at this point, and according to Dan, Bill Murray is willing to be involved on some level. He did record his dialogue for the new Ghostbusters video game, as did Danny and I, and Ernie Hudson. The concept is that the old Ghostbusters would appear in the film in some mentor capacity.”

Great news that they will be in the movie at least for a little bit of it. Bill Murray back in the slime! Would be great if they could be in it for a big chunk of the movie but I doubt they will be, plus they'd need a super wide angle to capture the ever expanding Ramis and Ackroyd!
