Megan Fox as Buffy - Dwayne Johnson as Commando

Cinefools has reported on a couple of rumours.

The first is that Megan Fox is being considered for the title role in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot that I mentioned a while back.

At the time of that news stories I sent Megan a quick Tweet asking if she was interested in playing the part and her response was in the negative.

Going with that and the fact it is still early days in this Buffy stories I would say that there is not much truth in the rumour.

Who else would you like to see as a new Buffy?

The second rumour is to do with the Commando remake. Cinefool's source says that Dwayne Johnson (Doom, Race to Witch Mountain) is the favourite to play the lead in the film that is in early development.

Not a bad choice for the role in my opinion but the plot of Commando was recently updated in the excellent Taken starring Liam Neeson.

How do you feel about The Rock as Commando?

Again I'll stress that these are both rumours.

The Rock may be Captain of the Nautilus

News of McG directing the Jules Verne classic came out in January.

Production Weekly made the announcement today about the McG helmed adventure along with a short synopsis of the film.

20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA: CAPTAIN NEMO

STATUS - Active Development LOCATION - Australia

PRODUCER: Sean Bailey - Jeanne Allgood WRITER: Justin Marks - Bill Marsilli

DIRECTOR: McG LP: Brent O'Connor CAST: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson

A fugitive whaler teams up with a naturalist, a mysterious woman and a captain of a futuristic submarine, to search for a lost underwater civilization that holds libraries of vast knowledge and a weapon with the power to destroy mankind.
Will Smith was originally rumoured to be attached to this film as Captain Nemo. It's not clear whether Dwayne Johnson will be playing the mysterious Captain or another character.

Would he be a good Nemo? Well the script review I posted a while back shows a film geared towards the action side of things, so maybe The Rock is what the studio think is the perfect fit. I don't really see it myself, but then I'm an old school James Mason as Nemo fan. However, I am looking forward to Dwayne playing Black Adam in the Captain Marvel film.

It looks as if this is getting further and further from the Jules Verne novel.

Can you smell what The Rock is cooking? I'd love to know what you think of this piece of casting news - would Dwayne make a good Nemo or do you think he is playing another character? Who would be the perfect Nemo?

Shazam! Captain Marvel is back on according to Black Adam

A while back the script writer, John August, said that the Captain Marvel film was dead.

Now Dwayne Johnson, who was promoting Race to Witch Mountain, gave MTV an update on Captain Marvel:
“I think we’re starting from page one,” Johnson told MTV News. “From what I know talking to [director] Pete Segal, there were creative differences between the script that came in and what the studio’s ideas were.”

“That’s what happens when you start developing a script — there are so many people involved because it’s such a big project and everybody has their opinion in it creatively,” explained Johnson. “It’s too bad when you can’t come to an agreement.”

Despite the project’s troubles, Johnson said he’s still “amped-up” to play the role of the hero’s similarly super-powered nemesis, adding that Black Adam is the only comic book character he’s encountered thus far that appealed to him.

“I’m sure the movie eventually will get made the way that we all collectively want to make the movie,” said Johnson, “so when that happens, that’s going to be bad-ass.”

Jonny Quest is Zac Efron. So says the Rock

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, “Race to Witch Mountain” director Andy Fickman, Zac Efron are teaming up for a feature film version of the cartoon classic The Adventures of Jonny Quest

The animated series (first aired in the 60s) told of a boy, 11-year-old Jonny, who accompanies his father, Dr. Benton Quest, on extraordinary adventures. Fearing Jonny could end up in the wrong hands, a special agent / bodyguard / pilot from Intelligence One Government, Race Bannon, is hired to guard and train him.

Zac Efron could possibly play the title role, with Dwayne Johnson as his Race Bannon.

‘’ I love the script, I love working with Andy...’’, Johnson tells Moviehole. “I don't know if you've read the latest [draft] but it's awesome and it's badass and I haven't read, this is what I told everyone over at Warner Bros., and I love the studio too by the way, you know, I had my experience with them with Get Smart and they were great, I hadn't read an action script like that in a LONG time. And that action was unbelievable. That will happen.’’

Johnson confirms that he’ll be Race Bannon, and that rumours suggesting Zac Efron might be Jonny Quest are on the money. Efron isn’t a lock though – and Johnson’s all ears. You see, in the source material the character is only twelve years old, but Efron’s 17. ‘’I loved Jonny Quest when I was a kid. If you go a little older, it gives you more, it allows you to be...it just gives you a bit more, you know. But then you want to honor it too, so... “

What do you reckon? Will that cast work in a Jonny Quest film? Have the Venture Brothers destroyed Johnny's chances?

Shazam - Captain Marvel is on his way

MTV have noticed that Variety reports today that the a film adaptation of “Captain Marvel” (the DC Comics version, just to clarify) has been making some serious moves at Warner Bros. lately.

In the Variety piece, Warner Bros. has signed up director Peter Segal (”Get Smart”) and his Callahan Filmworks partner Michael Ewing to a three-year first-look deal. While that may leave the average comic movie fan scratching their head and saying, “…and this is comic news because…?,” Variety makes note that, as part of the deal, Warners have also acquired rights from New Line for an adaptation of “Captain Marvel” as part of the deal, to which Segal has long been attached.
One of DC’s oldest characters — with a long history of legal nightmares that put the current “Watchmen” legal mess to shame — “Captain Marvel” will reportedly be a standard origin story, following teenager Billy Batson who, when upon shouting the word “Shazam,” becomes the all-powerful superhero, Captain Marvel. With the exception of Segal as director and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson saying he’d be interested in the role of Black Adam, no other information is currently available regarding the property, but considering the recent surge in popularity of second-tier characters, we wouldn’t be surprised to see this film put on the fast track.
Any fans of the big red cheese out there? Power wise Captain Marvel is up there with Superman (see the video below). Who could be Captain Marvel and who could play Billy?
