Deadpool is Green Lantern

Warner Bros. has settled on Ryan Reynolds as its choice to play Green Lantern. The film is being directed by Martin Campbell and produced by Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti.

Reynolds and his camp entered negotiations for the part Friday, after the studio held two rounds of screen tests, along with actors Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto. Justin Timberlake also did a screen test.

The studio had holding options on the actors, but, except for Reynolds, those expired Monday. Reynolds’ option would have expired end of day Friday.

THR say that if the deal is completed, it would make Reynolds the only actor to have played heroes for both Marvel and DC. He recently starred in a comic book movie, Fox's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, where he played "the merc with a mouth" Deadpool. The character is now being developed for a spin-off to which Reynolds is attached. He also played Marvel’s vampire hunter Hannibal King in Blade: Trinity.

Out of Bradley Cooper and Justin Timberlake, Ryan Reynolds is the best choice for Hal Jordan. Unexpected, but the best choice. Note though that the deal has yet to be fully completed, but it does look very likely. Hopefully, it won't effect the Deadpool movie too much. Luckily they sre characters from different universes plus Deadpool is scarred and masked for most of the time.

The Guardians of the Universe and Warner Bros. are getting closer to a decision as to who will wield the most powerful weapon in the Universe.

That's right Green Lantern may soon be cast

THR have the news that along with director Martin Campbell and producers Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti, Warners has spent the past five months searching for the actor to play Hal Jordan, the hot-shot Air Force pilot who is chosen by a dying alien to be his successor in an intergalactic police force known as the Green Lanterns.

There have been numerous rumours as to who would play Hal - Anton Yelchin, Sam Worthington, Chris Pine, Nathan Fillion (my favourite choice), Michael Fassbender, Henry Cavill, Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto.

However, they have now picked three definite maybes and only Bradley Cooper is from the above list. The other two are Ryan Reynolds and Justin Timberlake. The holding deal the studio had on the actors expired Monday, meaning the three are now free to accept other offers.

I am a bit surprised about this threesome as none of them really fit the Hal Jordan I picture. Out of the three Ryan Reynolds is about the closest, but I would much rather see him as Deadpool (I hope that Green Lantern doesn't impact on that).

Bradley Cooper can act, but I just don't see him as Hal.

Justin Timberlake....I just don't know. Stunt casting like that can often harm a big film and I definitely cannot see him as Hal.

Apparently, De Line, Campbell and the studio each had a different favorite among the three finalists, making it difficult to come to a consensus.

Another issue impacting the casting process is the rising budget. "Lantern" is a full-blown space epic that is expected to cost between $150 million and $200 million, if not more. Warners would like to have the production costs at a reasonable level before proceeding.

The studio has scheduled the movie for a December 2010 opening.

I am assuming that one of these three will be Hal Jordan. Sadly the excitement I had for the film has gone down a notch or two.

On a slightly different tangent, there is the slight possibility that Superman, or more likely Clark Kent, may cameo in the Green Lantern film. MTV spoke to scriptwriter Marc Guggenheim.

“Honestly, it changes on a daily basis. Whatever information I gave you today would be obsolete in a week, and maybe come back again in two weeks,” said Guggenheim. ” And even if it wasn’t in flux at the script stage, it would still be constantly in flux because you can film it, put it in the original cut, and eventually it could end up on the editing room floor.”

However, he didn’t deny that the Superman’s alter ego would be making an appearance.

Has B.A. Baracus got Game?

Who will be brave enough to don Mr. T's chains? Blackfilm has learned that rapper The Game is being considered for the role of B.A Baracus.

Recent word was that Common was going to take on the part, but with his recent casting opposite Queen Latifah in Just Right, he may not finish filming before 'The A-Team begins filming in August.

Common and The Game appeared in Street Kings last year.

The A-Team will be directed by Joe Carnahan (Smokin' Aces)

Liam Neeson was in negotiations to star as Hannibal Smith, while Bradley Cooper, after repeated denials, told MTV News that he will be playing the role of Templeton Peck.

I've not seen The Game acting in anything other than a music video so I can't really comment on how good a choice he would be. To be honest I would rather they went with a great actor as opposed to going the rap star route. Strange that there is still no word on who will be playing Murdoch. Who would you like to see as B.A.?

It is due for release on 11th June 2010.

Green Lantern - Updates and confirmations

Green Lantern scriptwriter Marc Guggenheim told Sci-Fi Wire that the latest draft of the screenplay was just turned in on the weekend.

"You know I really can't [say anything]. I've sworn a blood oath of secrecy in relation to the project. But, you know, the thing I can tell you is that it is a very loving and respectful approach"

Guggenheim did confirm the story will focus on Silver Age DC Comics incarnation Hal Jordan and how he became a member of the Green Lantern Corps.

Guggenheim added: "The goal here is to do the best cinematic representation of the Green Lantern character. You know, there's no desire on anyone's part to completely change the character and just call this other character Green Lantern and try to ... draft off the name recognition. This is all about 'How do we bring the best version of this character to the silver screen?'"

As for the movie's source material, Guggenheim said, "We've drawn heavily from ... a lot of different sources in terms of the comic books. ... The character ... is several decades old, so ... we've really had an incredible amount of source material to cherry-pick from."

The most recent news on the film has all been about who would be cast in the lead role. The Hangover's Bradley Cooper and Star Trek's Chris Pine being the most recent.

"They're all false," Guggenheim said. "I mean, they're all false insofar as we haven't chosen anyone yet. They're still in the negotiations, you know? There's a lot of names being talked about, and there's a lot of people being met, and a lot of ... actors reading the script. But if you read online [that] Pauly Shore's been cast as Hal Jordan, I can guarantee you we have not cast anyone."

Shooting kicks off at Fox Studios in Sydney around the end of this year for a release Summer 2011. It is due to be directed by Martin Campbell.

Now if we could just get an announcement on who will definitely be playing Hal Jordan. What classic storyline and characters do you want to see in the film?

Be warned I think Heather Graham was feeling a bit cold. Not sure how I know that, I may be psychic (see above). Bradley Cooper also seems to confirm his role as Face in The A-Team.

The Hangover, 2009 - Movie Review

"The Hangover" is the work of Todd Phillips. You know him. He made "Road Trip". He also made "Old School." Getting a bunch of buddies together and throwing in sex, drugs, beer, and all kinds of frat-boy hi-jinx is a formula that's served him well in the past and it does the same here. At the outset the movie is simple. One wild night followed by a couple days of trying to figure out what happened. It's a buddy comedy and mystery, reminiscent of "Dude, Where's My Car", except this movie happens to be funny.

The cast is mostly unknown but Phillips has worked with that before. Comedy is about chemistry, not big stars commanding big paychecks. Bradley Cooper (last seen in "He's Just Not that Into You"), Ed Helms ("The Daily Show") and Zach Galifianakis (idk, "This") play Phil, Stew, and Alan, three guys taking their buddy Doug (Justin Bartha) out to Vegas for his bachelor party. Phil and Stew are the best buddies, Alan is Doug's mentally-askew soon-to-be-brother in-law. After a wild night, the three guys wake up the next day to a trashed hotel room and several odd, unexplained phenoms. They find a baby in the closet, a tiger in the bathroom, and Doug is nowhere to be found. Other mysteries include why did Stew marry a stripper (Heather Graham), why are Asian mobsters after them, and dude, where's the car? The guys must retrace their steps to figure out the night and also find Doug.

Fresh surprises keep coming as the story moves along. Some, like the baby and the marriage to the stripper are missed opportunities, but for the most part they're pretty hilarious. The tiger is a great bit, as are the Asian mobsters. What happens to be lying in the trunk of the car is another good one. What powers it all is that the guys remember nothing of the night before. The movie is like a fish-out-of water tale, just replace the water with Jagermeister and roofies. Phillips ties it all together with crude laughs that nonetheless come off very funny. Masturbation, sex, drugs, stun-guns, f-words, condoms, and a couple of baby gags that I'm pretty sure will cement his place in hell but still make people laugh pretty hard are just a few things in his comic arsenal.

The three guys are great together. Allan is awkwardly clueless, unpredictable, and a little crazy. His speech, inviting the guys into his "wolf pack of one", is fantastic, as is what comes after that. The chubby and fully-bearded Zach Galifianakis is a scene stealer. Stew is the opposite, a guy so whipped into submission by his girlfriend that they might as well share brains. He's a nervous nerd prone to unraveling at the first sign of pressure. And Phil is the cool, clear-headed straight-man to the other two who get most of the laughs. Cooper, Helms, and Galifianakis know their roles well and convince that these three very different guys could actually be friends. The supporting cast, which includes Rob Riggle, Rachel Harris, Mike Epps, and Mike Tyson (in a very funny cameo) help out as well, but the best one comes from Ken Jeong, playing Mr. Chow, leader of the Asian mob. His flamboyance and exaggerated speech make him a ridiculously quirky villain.

"The Hangover" is a comic adventure well worth taking and when it finishes, don't leave yet cause you'll miss the hilarious trip photos playing over the closing credits. The movie is fresh, lively, fast-paced, and the cast is all game. Drink it up. It's a lot of fun.

The A-Team - Does Bradley Cooper have the right Face?

A little while back it was rumoured that rapper turned actor, Common, was to play B.A. Baracus in a big screen adaption of The A-Team. This film has been knocking around in development hell for a long time, but things seem to be moving on it. Chris Pine (Star Trek) recently said that he would love to play Murdoch and the only part that never seems to be mentioned is that if Hannibal.

IESB.net found out some more news over the weekend from actor Bradley Cooper himself, who apparantly confirmed that he will be playing Templeton Peck aka "Face".

IESB asked Bradley Cooper point blank if he was excited about playing Faceman in The A-Team. His reaction? A mixture of surprise and astonishment - "That's out already!?"

Following some laughter and excitement, he continued, "Wow. Yeah...its
Joe Carnahan's. It's very interesting. It'll be cool. It will be cool see
what...He'll make a great movie out of it."

Cooper was quickly whisked away back down the hall, after we had a chance to thank him for his time and got a "Thanks man" in return.

Joe Carnahan is down for directing the team, which will hit theaters on 11th June 2010.

This is the second piece of bit news involving Cooper. The first was that he is runoured to be one of the favourites for playing Hal Jordan in the Green Lantern film.

I can't really picture him in either role, but I have only really seen him in Alias and a couple of other things.

The Green Lantern moved from 2010 to 2011

Warner Bros has pushed back the announced release of Martin Campbell’s DC comic book adaptation of The Green Lantern, from 2010 to 2011. The film was originally due out on 17th December 2010. Now it will be out on 17th June 2011, a week before Pixar’s Cars 2.

Releasing it during the summer blockbuster season would suggest that the studio is really getting behind it. Plus the extra time they now have to make it can only be a good thing. I really hope they have lots of space bound adventures and big up the sci-fi side of Hal Jordan's adventures.

The $150 million film was hoping to begin production in mid-September at Fox Studios in Sydney Australia. Yesterday I posted that Bradley Cooper was close to being cast as Hal Jordan, but the producers still haven’t made any final decisions. The new date might give the production a bit more time to finalize the cast.

What and who do you want to see in a Green Lantern film.

Will the Green Lantern be Bradley Cooper?

There has been a lot of talk about who will be donning the Green and reciting the Green Lantern oath - Anton Yelchin (Star Trek, Charlie Bartlett), Chris Pine (Star Trek), Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight), Jack Black (Year One), David Boreanaz (Buffy, Angel, Bones), Ryan Gosling (The Notebook), Jon Hamm (Mad Men) and Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Serenity) to name but a few (my favourite would be Fillion).

Now another name has been thrown into the wilds of the internet and that name is Bradley Cooper. You may not know the name but you will have seen his face - Alias, The Hangover, Failure to Launch, Yes Man, He's Just Not That Into You, and The Midnight Meat Train.

He has only been a lead in the last one, which was a horror, and all the rest have been mainly comedy roles so it is a bit of a surprise that he has been included to play Hal Jordan.

Here is what Drew McWeeney a.k.a. Moriarty on AICN, has to say about Cooper.

HitFix can exclusively report that Bradley Cooper is now one of the guys most likely to don the suit and slip on the power ring as The Green Lantern for director Martin Campbell.

Let's be clear: they have not hired him yet. But the process is far enough along that this is more than just a meeting or some spot on a wish list. Keep in mind that Campbell likes to see a lot of people when he's casting... and even when he's screen-testing, he seems willing to explore as many options as possible... but with the film set to shoot later this summer, they've got to start making their choices, and now's the time to put people in front of the camera and see who really works in the suit.

As the quote says Bradley is "one of the guys" so nothing has been decided. I personally just don't see him as Earth's Green Lantern, but he can act.

All About Steve - Trailer for Sandra Bullock crazy stalker film

A TV news cameraman is stalked across the country by a brilliant but eccentric crossword-puzzler after they go on one date.

Basically it looks like a film designed to give hope to all the crazy stalkers out there. Yes it is a comedy but I can't wait for the trailer recut to emphasise the scaryness of Sandra Bullock's obsessive character.
