Live for Films is 1 today

Who would have thought that the little blog I started a year ago to keep my mates updated on film things would be going strong and have a worldwide audience.

What a year it has been. I never in my wildest dreams thought that I would be interviewing cool filmmakers (Duncan Jones, Andrew Barker, Alejandro Adams, Ryan Denmark, Marc Robert & Will Stotler, Kenny Carpenter) and amazing authors (Michael Marshall Smith, Neal Asher) . I was invited to Channel 4 HQ to talk about Red Riding. Studios told me to take down photos and posters that hadn't been officially released. A few times I was the first with photos and news stories which was cool. Over 4000 posts, thousands of visitors, funny comments, and so much more.

What's coming up in the next year? Hopefully, a revamp of the site over the next week or two. My first press conference (Public Enemies) which will be cool if it pulls off. More interviews. If I can figure out what to do with them I may have some Live for Film pod casts. Lots of movie nights. Maybe a Live For Film Movie season at some local cinemas (just need to work out costs and things) and lots and lots of posts. Oh and I also need to find a new job to pay the bills.

Thanks to everyone who has visited the site and those who follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Friend Feed or Blogger. Thanks to all the people who have taken their time to post comments and the wonderful people who have sat down to write movie reviews for the site. Thanks to all the people on the LFF Forum (if you are not on it go and join now. There are good people on it). Thanks to all the people who send me emails with great news and links - keep them coming.

Thanks to all the other sites who have linked to me or referenced me as a source. Thanks to all the PR people for sending me trailers, press releases and screener discs.

Thanks to all my friends who share my love of film and put up with me chatting about the site. Thanks to my Wife for putting up with my web surfing for new stories and thanks to my kids for being great. Thanks to the rest of my family for all their help.

Thanks to Parallel Solutions for their patience and knowledge regarding all IT matters. Thanks to all the filmmakers for making films and to those indie filmmakers and fan filmmakers who keep on making inspiring works on a tiny budget.

Most of all thanks to you - the person reading this right now - you are brilliant and I really appreciate the time you took to read this, and other, posts. Keep coming back and tell your friends.

Thanks.

Happy Birthday Johnny Depp

A cool video of Depp celebrating his 46th birthday during the filming of The Rum Diary. Benjamin Velez shot it and said:
I filmed Johnny Depp´s surprise party from my house balcony, at Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, as he became my new front neighbor during more than 8 days, while his new movie "The Rum Diary" was being produced.

Depp's birthday presents...the red car used in the film and a guitar sitting in the front seat. From 9 pm to 4am the cast and crew celebrated his birthday at the Parrot Club. Cepp brought his own bottle of wine.

Happy Birthday Mr Depp. I would have loved to have been there. Thanks to Pam for sending me the link.

Happy Birthday Jack

Would you believe it but all work and no play means Jack Nicholson has reached the ripe old age of 72.

Inspiration for the existence of Christian Slater, Nicholson has starred in a whole heap of excellent films. IMDB lists 72 - Chinatown, Five Easy Pieces, The Shining, As Good As it Gets, Easy Rider, Terms of Endearment, Batman, The Last Detail, Hoffa, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Departed and many, many more. IMDB also have a whole host of news on the great man and here are just a few.

His mother, June Nicholson, was of Irish and Dutch descent. He never knew his father and was raised by his grandparents. He was led to believe that June was his older sister and his grandparents were his parents. It was not until 1974 when a Time magazine reporter researched his life that he learned the truth. An Italian immigrant named Donald Furcillo who was married briefly to June claimed to be his father. But Nicholson chose not to investigate further.

The character Shipwreck from the animated GI Joe series of the 1980s was partly based on him (and partly based on Popeye the Sailor Man).

In 2004, he attended his 50th high school reunion at Manasquan High School in Manasquan, New Jersey. Needless to say, his classmates were surprised and delighted that he attended.

Is one of only a few actors to win a Best Supporting Actor Oscar after winning a Best Actor Oscar.

Owns a large art collection including works by Pablo Picasso and Tamara de Lempicka

Batman creator Bob Kane personally recommended him for the role of the Joker in Batman (1989).

What is your favourite Jack Nicholson scene?

Christopher Walken is 66 today

Happy Birthday Mr Walken.

In honour of the fact here is his classic scene from Pulp Fiction, followed by his telling of The Three Little Pigs on the Jonathan Ross show.

Apologies for the lack of posts today

It was my daughter's 2nd birthday so I think that's a good enough reason not too post much today.

She had a great day and she got lots of lovely toys.

Last post from the age of 34

This is going to be my last post for the night and I probably won't be posting much tomorrow either. Bear with me though and keep checking, but everything will be back up to speed on Sunday.

The reason for the slight blip in what, so far, has been a number of posts every day, is that it is my birthday tomorrow (in just less than 10 minutes actually). Therefore, I'll be out and about with my Wife and kids. Plus tomorrow night I'm off for a curry with my Mum, Dad and Wife.

In the meantime keep checking back, you may have missed something on previous visits. Leave comments on previous posts (good or bad, I don't mind) and nip over to the forum for a chat with other like minded souls (there is an ongoing script there waiting for one of you to add the next part).

Don't forget to vote on the latest Poll - What classic sci-fi movie should I watch when I have a crowd of my mates round on the 16th August? Going to be plenty much beer and chilli so should be a great night.

Well, wherever you are in the World, have a great day. If it's your birthday as well then Happy Birthday. You must also be incredibly handsome, suave, and funny as well.

Sleep easy my friends.

Freakazoid on DVD

Oh yeah! Warner Bros have finally released Freakazoid on DVD. One of the maddest, craziest most wonderful cartoons of recent years that not many people saw.

Now it is my birthday this Saturday (I'll be 35) so if anyone wants to get it for me that would be splendid. Hey if I can't use the internet to get stuff then there is something seriously wrong with the World!
