Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian - Darth Vader?

The first TV spot introduces more of the film's characters including its "villains". Now with added Dark Lord of the Sith and Oscar the Grouch.

Ben Stiller and Darth Vader. Not sure where this one is going. My son enjoyed the first Night at the Museam and he is a big Star Wars fan so he's going to love this.

As for me. I like a bit of Star Wars. Stiller is great in some things and not so great in others. This sequel will probably be much like the first.

Directed by Shawn Levy

Starring Ben Stiller, Amy Adams, Hank Azaria, Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan.

Due out on 22nd May, 2009

G.I.Joe: The Rise of Cobra - Baroness Action Figure

Just in time for the release of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, from Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Entertainment, in association with Hasbro, Hasbro introduces the first and only 12” BARONESS figure. The figure, in the likeness of BARONESS actress Sienna Miller as seen in the upcoming movie, features a soft goods trench coat and body suit as well as multiple signature weapons. The figure comes with an R. Black designed “COBRA recruiting poster” featuring BARONESS and features the “COBRA Office of Propaganda” seal of approval. The figure and poster are packaged together in a premium faux-leather box with embossed foil.

Now the action figure, I feel, is not that good but I love the artwork and colours used on the packaging.

The Stephen Sommers-directed action-adventure stars Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Christopher Eccleston, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Byung Hun Lee, Sienna Miller, Rachel Nichols, Ray Park, Said Taghmaoui, Channing Tatum, Marlon Wayans and Dennis Quaid.

Vanishing On 7th Street - Could if be the next Happening or will it be good?

This is one of those interesting sounding concepts that could end up as a poor mans Twilight Zone if it is not done correctly.

John Leguizamo and Thandie Newton have been confirmed with Timothy Olyphant and Forest Whitaker to star. Brad Anderson (Session 9 , Trans Siberian, The Wire)

Following a mysterious blackout, most of the population vanishes into thin air. As the remaining survivors converge in a small tavern to figure out what happened, the darkness returns to claim them one by one.

I remember walking around Chicago with Jinja during Thanksgiving and that seemed totally deserted on many of the streets we walked down. That was very spooky on such a sunny day so this has the potential to be very odd and memorable.

The concept also reminds me of Phantoms (Ben Affleck was the bomb in that), John Carpenter's In the Mouth of Madness, the opening of 28 Days Later and The Langoliers. Can you think of anything to add to the mix?

Handsome Harry - Trailer

At 52, Harry Sweeney (Jamey Sheridan) lives a pretty monotonous but comfortable life. He's the absentee father of a grown son from a failed marriage, runs a small business, and visits the local diner regularly to flirt with career waitress Muriel (Karen Young). His past begins to resurface when he gets a call from Tom Kelly (Steve Buscemi), an old buddy on his deathbed. Tom believes he needs forgiveness from a fellow crewman, David Kagan, from their days in the Navy. The secret of what happened unfolds as Harry visits other old mates on his reluctant search for David. As Harry is forced to confront the past he's buried for so long, one wonders—is he searching for Tom's redemption or his own?

Director Bette Gordon (also showing a restored version of her 1983 film Variety at the Festival this year) carefully maneuvers a script by Nicholas T. Proferes (editor/cinematographer of Elia Kazan's The Visitors) by delicately unraveling what happened between the vets. Jamey Sheridan naturally conveys the complexity of Harry's demeanor, both stoic and vulnerable. The rest of the cast—including Aidan Quinn, Campbell Scott, and John Savage—beautifully contributes to this quiet, poignant story of redemption, escaping the past, and confronting the present.

Cropsey - What if your urban legend was real?

This sounds very intriguing. Anyone seen it?

What if your urban legend was real?

The maniac that preyed on innocent children? The axe-wielding madman your camp counselors warned you about? The one-armed hermit who stalked the woods, thirsty for blood.

We called him Cropsey. What did you call him?

In their film, directors Joshua Zeman and Barbara Brancaccio investigate the eerie connection between the urban legend of Cropsey and the real life boogeyman who stalked their hometown for over three decades. They investigate five missing children and the real-life boogeyman linked to their disappearance in Staten Island during their youth. Will this terrifying journey resolve what has haunted them since childhood?

It is due out on 2nd May, 2009.

HMV to open up art house cinemas

This can only be a good thing for quality cinema.
A new partnership between music and DVD retailer HMV and cinema chain Curzon Artificial Eye will lead to branding work for consultancy Venture Three.

HMV has linked up with Curzon Artificial Eye as it looks to open a chain of ‘art house’ cinemas to expand its offer beyond high-street retailing.

The 200-seat, three-screen pilot cinema, called hmvcurzon, will open above HMV’s store in Wimbledon, west London, in autumn.

If successul the concept could be rolled out to other HMV locations.

A spokesman for HMV says Venture Three is the chain’s preferred branding consultancy, and that it will be ‘guiding us on the way we apply the brand’.

The consultancy was unavailable for comment at the time of going to press.

The Diamonds of Metro Valley -

This trailer features Ron the Robot and a taste of our 13 minute long car chase made with model cars. It has also taken about 4 years to make and you'll see why when you watch the trailers
The Diamonds of Metro Valley is a DIY feature film, made almost entirely on green screen, with full scale people and small-scale, hand-made models, sets costumes, props etc. We completed special effects in After Effects shot-by-shot. The plot of DMV is inspired by diamond heist films of the 1970's, but with an added tinge of the retro-futuristic. Some exciting sequences include a twelve inch robot growing to the height of a three story building, numerous gun-battles and explosions, and a thirteen minute car chase created with model cars on a green screen conveyor belt, composited with live action. It's taken us almost 4 years from start to finish, as each scene in DMV has multiple design and digital effects elements, but we think this effectively contributes to the unique look of the project. We expect to be done in a couple months.

Notorious Metro Valley crime lord Jonas Caine has a deadly scheme in mind. To pull off this heist he needs a powerful weapon, one that only a mad, drug-addled scientist could create...Jonas Caine is a gangster without remorse. Dr. Thadeous Price is a down and out, drug addicted inventor. Throw in Tokyo's powerful under-world eccentric Takeshi Sagawas, several million dollars worth of stolen diamonds, a remote-operated, nocturnally aggressive lizard devise, and the action begins!
