Zooey Deschanel as Sid and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Nancy

Mean Magazine's Cinemash recreates scenes from various films using some well know actors.

Part one in the series stars with Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt cinemashing the 1986 film Sid and Nancy. The duo also star in 500 Days of Summer and have a scene when they speak about the film.
What did you think of that? I'll be keeping on eye on Cinemash as they have some good stuff coming up:

The high-flying comedy duo get into a heated debate about the price of cannabis and decide to "Tron for it," launching themselves into the virtual world of the science fiction classic.

JULY 28
Channing Tatum and Charlyne Yi Cinemash Dirty Dancing
Directors: Nicholas Jasenovec and Kashy Khaledi
Writers: Charlyne Yi and Nicholas Jasenovec
Music: Lemjay and Ryan Kattner

An appealingly off-beat couple wax romantic and can't stop moving to the music as they mix intimacy and hilarity in a scene from the megahit movie.

AUGUST 4

One of TV's true Heroes takes revenge on a group of greedy corporate executives who are strapping on their golden parachutes to escape responsibility for their misdeeds.

AUGUST 11

Adult Swim's animated character Xavier goes to the prom and Arnett, a frequent 30 Rock guest star, is there, too, to reenact the finale from one of the greatest horror movies of all time.

AUGUST 18

Director: Mya Stark

G.I. Joe - Japanese trailer gives our first look at The Doctor a.k.a. Cobra Commander

The Doctor is played by Joseph Gordon Levitt. You can see him at the 0:08 mark in the trailer chatting to Destro (Christopher Eccleston). Both are pre-iconic mask, although the Doctor has that weird breath mask thing.

The whole thing is looking very sci-fi and I reckon kids will love it. What do you think of the new trailer?

Christopher Nolan's Inception has started filming

NolanFans.com found the above picture of Leonardo DiCaprio, Christopher Nolan and Ken Watanabe in a Japanese magazine. I'm not sure if Leonardo and Ken are in costume or if it is just for the photo.

The photo containing the Inception director, and two of its stars, was taken on June 15th in Tokyo, Japan (one of the reported filming locations of Inception). According to reports, filming is already underway in that country, which is only one of six reported countries the film is scheduled to shoot in.
As well as Japan Inception will also film in Los Angeles, London, Paris, Morocco, Tangiers and Canada (as mentioned here). It has been described as “a contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind” and as as well as Leo and Watanabe the cast includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, Marion Cotillard, Michael Caine, Tom Hardy and Cillian Murphy.

Inception - Christopher Nolan's sci-fi film has a $200 million budget

A Sun source confirmed that Leonardo DiCaprio will be heading to Alberta, Canada this November to shoot scenes for the new Christopher Nolan film, Inception.

While the psychological sci-fi thriller is filming in five different countries, a significant portion of the $200-million movie will be shot in Kananaskis.

"It's not going to be just a two-day shoot," said the source.

"It's not just some CBC mini-series. It's pretty substantial.

"These guys are going to spend more money before lunchtime than most (networks) will spend on a series. It's as big a movie as has ever been shot here."

DiCaprio headlines the film's star-studded cast as a CEO. It also stars Oscar-winner Marion Cotillard, Canadian actress Ellen Page, Tom Hardy (Bronson), Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Cillian Murphy and Michael Caine. Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai, The Dark Knight) will play the film's villain, a man who is blackmailing DiCaprio.

Director Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight, Memento) has already been to Calgary twice to look at possible locations.

Nolan scouted nearby foothills and mountainous areas by helicopter and is said to have chosen Fortress Mountain (that's the one in the photo above) as the main Alberta location.

The Inception script, also written by Nolan, has been kept under tight wraps although it has been described by Warner Bros. studio as "a contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind."

I do love the fact hardly anything is know about the actual plot of the film. From what little I do know it seems to be giving off a Philip K. Dick kind of vibe - businessmen from rival companies, set within the architecture of the mind.

The movie is slated for a July 2010 release.

Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai, Batman Begins) and Tom Hardy (Bronson, Star Trek: Nemesis) have signed on for Christopher Nolan's Inception for Warner Bros., starring opposite Leonardo DiCaprio.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story was written by Nolan and is a contemporary sci-fi action film set within the architecture of the mind, with DiCaprio as a CEO type. Watanabe will play the film's villain, a man who is blackmailing DiCaprio. Hardy is a member of DiCaprio's team.

The duo join a cast that includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Cillian Murphy, Ellen Page, Michael Caine and Marion Cotillard.

G.I.Joe: The Rise of Cobra - Baroness Action Figure

Just in time for the release of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, from Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Entertainment, in association with Hasbro, Hasbro introduces the first and only 12” BARONESS figure. The figure, in the likeness of BARONESS actress Sienna Miller as seen in the upcoming movie, features a soft goods trench coat and body suit as well as multiple signature weapons. The figure comes with an R. Black designed “COBRA recruiting poster” featuring BARONESS and features the “COBRA Office of Propaganda” seal of approval. The figure and poster are packaged together in a premium faux-leather box with embossed foil.

Now the action figure, I feel, is not that good but I love the artwork and colours used on the packaging.

The Stephen Sommers-directed action-adventure stars Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Christopher Eccleston, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Byung Hun Lee, Sienna Miller, Rachel Nichols, Ray Park, Said Taghmaoui, Channing Tatum, Marlon Wayans and Dennis Quaid.

G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra - Is this our first glimpse of Cobra Commander in action?

Entertainment Weekly published a photo from G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra that reveals what could possibly be the very first official look at Cobra Commander.

The photo caption reveals that Sienna Miller (middle) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Cobra Commander (right) are shown in the photo.

It does look a bit like the images we have seen in the past for Cobra Commander's mask and it does appear slightly different to the other masked man on the left (that could just be due to the muzzle flash though). However, it is more than likely just a generic Cobra soldier. Either that or G.I. Joe is crossing over with Army of Two.

Could it be our first glimpse of the Commander? Is this film going to be good, bad or meh?

Cobra Commander action figure from the G.I. Joe film

Dear Lord, pity poor Joseph Gordon Levitt. He knows not what he looks like with that mask on. Apparantly he is on Twitter so go and ask him what he thinks of it.

G.I. Joe - Almost the first proper look at what Cobra Commander will look like

Cool Toy Review had the image of Cobra Commander from G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra on the packaging for those kiddified version of figures whose name escapes me at the moment. Obviously it is a stylised version of the character played by Joseph Gordon Levitt, but it looks a damn site better than the previous image we had of the character. Plus we get to see an image of Destro who is being played by Christopher Eccleston in the film.

GI Joe - Zartan, Breaker, Cobra Commander - Looks pretty bad

/film had the pic and like them I feel the characters look pretty poor. Apparantly it is the real deal for the film.

Left to right - Saïd Taghmaoui as Joe communications specialist Breaker, the Cobra Viper (a ground soldier), third up is Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Brick, 3rd Rock from the Sun) as The Doctor (aka Cobra Commander), and fourth is Arnold Vosloo who plays Zartan, a master of disguise.

Carla Gugino to play porn star Elektra Luxx

Variety have the news that writer-director Sebastian Gutierrez is directing Carla Gugino in Elektra Luxx. She will play a porn star whose life is turned upside down when she discovers she's pregnant.

This is a sequel to Women in Trouble, an ensemble comedy about one day in the lives of 10 Los Angeles women that has yet to find distribution.

Elektra Luxx has the same characters a month later, again covering a full day. The original starred Gugino, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Adrianne Palicki, Marley Shelton, Connie Britton, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Simon Baker.

Timothy Olyphant, Alicia Silverstone and Justin Kirk are also down to play characters in "Elektra Luxx," and many of the actors from the first film are reprising their roles.

Gutierrez is planning a third installment tentatively titled "Women in Ecstasy." Filming of the first sequel is under way, and all three pics are financed independently and produced by Gutierrez's Gato Negro Films.

Akira - Live action news from the Big Giant Head!

The news on the live action version of Katsuhiro Ôtomo's 1988 masterpiece Akira, was that Warner Bros. had snapped up the movie rights for Leonardo DiCaprio’s company to produce (and for him to possibly star). Then it was mentioned that Joseph Gordon Levitt (3rd Rock from the Sun, Brick, G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra) had nabbed the co-starring role of Tetsuo in the live-action version of the anime. Since then it has all gone quiet, until this snippet of news surfaced:
MTV asked Joseph Gordon Levitt, about Akira the movie:
“That just goes to show what you can believe about what people write about movies. I love the movie ‘Akira.’ I still have yet to read the manga, but that’s really just a rumor. They don’t have a script or anything.”

Akira is a great animated movie and for me and many others it was the gateway into the weird and wonderful world of anime. The manga is well worth picking up and is much bigger and deeper than the movie. Not sure if it needs to be made as a live action movie (Kanye West had a go at it in that Stronger video of his). However, it would be cool to see Kaneda's bike on the big screen. I think Levitt certainly fits the look of Tetsuo but they would need to chuck a load of money at the project to make sure they get the Blade Runner-esque look of it right.

What do you think of the news? Still early days as no script for it yet but do you think it needs to be remade as a live action movie? What did you think of the original anime? What other anime movies out there would suit going the live action route?
