Give 'em Hell Malone - Cannes Trailer

I first mentioned the Russell Mulcahy (Highlander) film, Give 'em Hell Malone, back in September of last year.

Then there were teaser trailers, photos, and posters.

Now the new trailer for its Cannes debut has been released and it is below for your viewing pleasure.

Starring Thomas Jane, Ving Rhames, Elsa Pataky, Chris Yen, French Stewart, Doug Hutchison, Leland Orser, Eileen Ryan, Gregory Harrison and David Andriole.

I'm digging the look of this film. I love the whole pulp noir style of it all. What are your thoughts on it? Are you a fan of Thomas Jane? Will you be watching the film when it is released?

Piranha 3-D is cast

You can all rest easy now as Bloody Disgusting have news on the cast for Piranha 3-D

Dina Meyer (Starship Troopers, Saw I - IV) will play Paula, Brooklynn Proulx (Fireflies in the Garden) will play Laura Quinn Lord (Trick 'r Treat) will play Zane, and Riley Steele will play Crystal.

They're joined by leads Adam Scott, Elizabeth Shue and Ving Rhames. As previously mentioned Richard Dreyfuss will have a cameo as well.

They're back! Every year the population of Lake Havasu explodes for a single, wild weekend - the 4th of July, a riot of sun, drunken fun and sex-crazed mayhem. But this year, there's something more to worry about than hangovers. Havasu sits in the crater formed by a prehistoric volcanic eruption, and when earth tremors tear open a crack in the lake floor, all hell breaks through. Piranhas - a million ravenous, razor-toothed monsters, unchanged since the dawn of time. Unstoppable killing machines acting blindly under one primeval impulse: to hunt down anything that moves and strip it to the raw, bleeding bone.

Piranha 3-D will be shooting in 3-D and will be out in March next year. Alexandre Aja previously directed High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes and Mirrors.

Give 'em Hell, Malone - Two new posters

The Moving Picture posted these two posters for Russell Mulcahy's Give 'em Hell Malone.

Looks like some poster designer has been reading their Sin City books. I personally feel these posters are a bit naff, but I am looking forward to seeing the film.

The film stars Thomas Jane as Malone along with Ving Rhames, Elsa Pataky, Leland Orser, French Stewart and Doug Hutchison

Richard Dreyfuss to go swimming with bow-legged women in Piranha 3D

Nuke The Fridge reports that Richard Dreyfuss will make a cameo in Piranha 3-D.It looks like this role will be a tip of the hat to the character that Dreyfuss played in Jaws. All that's known is that his character will take down Amity brand beer.

There is even a school of thought that the actor's character might be the first to die in this new film.

In addition to this, according to The New York Post, Ving Rhames is going to be in this film as well. Nothing is known about the role he will play.

Elisabeth Shue will be starring in this film that is being directed by Alexandre Aja. It starts shooting this month.

Surrogates - Some on set photos of the Bruce Willis sci-fi film

It has been a while since there was any news on this comic book adaption. However, SciFiCool managed to get hold of some on set photos which I've posted here.
FBI agents (BRUCE WILLIS and RADHA MITCHELL) investigate the mysterious murder of a college student linked to the man who helped create a high-tech surrogate phenomenon that allows people to purchase unflawed robotic versions of themselves—fit, good looking remotely controlled machines that ultimately assume their life roles—enabling people to experience life vicariously from the comfort and safety of their own homes. The murder spawns a quest for answers: in a world of masks, who’s real and who can you trust?

I'm assuming that the blonde woman on the wires is one of the Surrogates and that she is doing some super-duper robot style running and/or jumping.
Surrogates stars Bruce Willis, Radha Mitchell, Rosamund Pike, James Francis Ginty, Boris Kodjoe and Ving Rhames. Jonathan Mostow (”Terminator: Rise of the Machines”) directs.

Echelon Conspiracy - Bigger synopsis, another trailer

Another trailer for this conspiracy film. Will it have the same reaction as the first one (check out the comments)?

A young engineer, Max Peterson (Shane West) flies to Bangkok for an ordinary security installation job for a high-end client. When he arrives back at his hotel after a stunning demonstration of his technical skills, an unexpected DHL package awaits him on the concierge desk. Max has received a state of the art cellular phone. Later, in his hotel room, he receives an SMS message on the new phone, advising him to take advantage of a hotel special, and stay another day in Bangkok. After a short deliberation he decides to delay his flight home to the US, and stay one more day. The following morning Max awakes to find the flight he canceled horrifically exploded in mid-air, killing all passengers aboard. He continues to receive messages on the mysterious phone from an unknown source.

Now believing that the SMS message saved his life, Max follows the advice from another text message, and changes his plans to fly directly to the US, instead flying to Prague first. The cabbie who brings Max from the Prague airport to his hotel reveals himself to be a Russian hacker and technological maestro named Yuri (Sergey Gubanov). After receiving another text message, Max wins a huge amount of money at the local casino. Now that he is red hot at the casino with the help of his cell phone, Max alarms the casino’s chief of security, American expat John Reed (Edward Burns, Saving Private Ryan). Reed starts an investigation by sending an assistant, the very sexy young woman Kamila (Tamara Feldman), to seduce Max into revealing his secret. Simultaneously, Max is ordered by the management not to use his cell phone in the casino. To overcome security, Max asks Yuri to fix his phone so he can retrieve the messages secretly. Yuri supplies Max with an earpiece that allows Max to hear incoming messages. Shortly afterward, Max wins a huge jackpot thanks to an SMS message.

After Max’s big win, Reed decides to end his winning streak, but his former colleague, FBI Special Agent Grant (Ving Rhames), is now pursing the matter. Grant informs Reed that the FBI has created a special task force, with himself at the lead, and that mysterious text messages have been sent with different kinds of instructions and advice to many different people in the United States. He explains that it appears in the form of a text message on mobile phones and pagers, or emails on computers. The advice given abruptly changes the lives of the people who follow it. The people have not been linked together by any means, and they range from simple salesclerks to high-ranking government officials. The only thing in common is that they all grow rich and die soon after. Grant’s supervisor, NSA Director Raymond Burke (Martin Sheen), monitors the situation with Max but keeps his true motivation secret.

FBI agents apprehend Max. Under pressure, Max agrees to cooperate in the investigation. The FBI and the NSA finally locate the source of the mysterious messages. They are being sent from inside the US, via the Echelon system. Someone is using this extremely important system for unknown and dangerous purposes.

Some real facts: In 1987 the US government established a highly sophisticated computer system called “Echelon.” It was originally designed as a communication infiltration system during the Cold War. In the late nineties it was used to help fight organized crime. In 2001, the Bush Administration injected billions more dollars into Echelon to turn it into a highly effective anti-terrorism tool. Echelon intercepts every phone call, text-message and email; traces television and radio broadcasts; and picks up conversations through window glass vibration as well as bugged public centers. Thousands of sub-computer stations around the world feed its giant central mother core. Echelon’s unique feature is that it is completely automated, self-contained and independent. The system traces, intercepts and analyzes key words and phrases, and when necessary it informs a very small circle of individuals. The Echelon system is directly under the control of the NSA.

NSA Director Burke orders his agents neutralize Max, thereby assuring the Echelon routine remains Top Secret. Max, however, survives their attack. Accompanied by Reed, Max goes to Moscow with the aide of Mr. Mueller (Jonathan Pryce, Pirates of the Caribbean), the owner of the Prague casino. The super-rich Mueller wants to shut down the cell-phone messages and prevent the ruin of his casinos worldwide. In Moscow, Max once again receives assistance from the Russian hacker. Yuri investigates all of the previous events that have occurred between Echelon and Max, then explains the anomalies are the results of a very strong and logical computer algorithm. Yuri’s discovery: Echelon behaves as though it is intelligent, as if it were self-aware, a person. A person protecting himself. Upon discovering this information, Burke tries to exploit the situation by expanding Echelon’s reach as a lawless surveillance tool.

Finally, after a number of unexpected and dramatic turns, Max, Reed and Grant resolve the logical problem at the heart of Echelon’s mischief, a remote bunker in the American Midwest. While Max tries to outsmart the super-computer, Reed and Grant hold off a squad of government agents who follow Burke’s orders by attempting to penetrate the facility and stop Max.

Echelon Conspiracy - Poster and trailer for Eagle Eye knock off

Echelon Conspiracy
is directed by Greg Marcks and stars Shane West, Edward Burns, Ving Rhames and Martin Sheen.

Mysterious cell phone messages promise a young American engineer untold wealth -- then make him the target of a deadly international plot. Dangerous security operatives chase the engineer across the globe, while a powerful government official pursues a mysterious agenda that threatens the stability of the entire world.

As I Watch Stuff said, "We have an early entry into the competition for stupidest movie of 2009! From what I can tell, it's about a sentient phone that's sort of magic, maybe."

Looks to be a mix of Eagle Eye and Enemy of the State. Check out the official site.

Odette Yustman to star in Rogue's Gallery - a comedy about Assassins

Odette Yustman (Cloverfield, The Unborn) talked to ComingSoon about her next film, "a small, dry-wit, dark comedy about a group of assassins, they're all based on Tarot card names." It is called Rogue's Gallery and also stars Adam Scott, Ving Rhames, Ellen Barkin, Maggie Q, and comedians Jeffrey Tambor, Zach Galifianakis and Rob Corddry. "It's funny in that way that it's kind've gory, but hilarious in the way the situations come about because I get to work with great comedic actors," Yustman explains. Which, to me, sounds like it could be very embarrasing to watch.

Yustman's character in the film is named Temperence, "and each of us have different functions and things we have to do," she explains. "We're hired by the government, we're this underground society, and we're basically sent to kill whoever we have to kill. And one day this new hire comes in and we wind up having to kill each other. I got to do some fight training and some of my own stunts. That was my dream role. I get to kick ass, be funny, kill people with a paper cutter blade."

The script was written by two newcomers, Brian Watanabe and Abe Levy, and it's being directed by another first-timer, Fouad Mikati.

Comedy film about assassins with a supernatural tint to it - good or bad?

Thomas Jane - Photos of Give 'em Hell Malone

I posted the trailer for Russell Mulcahy's Give 'em Hell Malone a while ago and I personally think it looks ace. Looks like a very hard boiled detective kind of story. Mulcahy previously directed Highlander.
Thomas Jane stars as Malone, a tough as nails private investigator who squares off with gangsters and thugs to protect a valuable secret. "Malone goes through hell to protect the information but he dishes some hell as well."
Film School Rejects got hold of the photos. As well as Thomas Jane there is also a shot of Elsa Pataky, but still no photos of Ving Rhames. It's due out in April next year. Will you be going to see this?

UPDATED: Give 'em Hell Malone - Poster and trailer for Thomas Jane's latest

I mentioned this a while ago but here is a poster and a teaser trailer for the Thomas Jane, Ving Rhames film. It's directed by Russell Mulcahy.

"Thomas Jane as the title character and Ving Rhames as his rival, "Boulder." Malone, tough private eye, takes a job retrieving a case containing a mysterious secret. Bullets, fists, and blood fly as he fights through an army of thugs to protect the secret."

UPDATE: Here's the embeded trailer below. It does look pretty cool and proper old school. Let me know what you think of it.
