Surrogates - Trailer for Bruce Willis sci-fi

FBI agents (Bruce Willis and Radha Mitchell) investigate the mysterious murder of a college student linked to the man who helped create a high-tech surrogate phenomenon that allows people to purchase unflawed robotic versions of themselves –- fit, good looking remotely controlled machines that ultimately assume their life roles -– enabling people to experience life vicariously from the comfort and safety of their own homes. The murder spawns a quest for answers: In a world of masks, who’s real and who can you trust?
I was hoping for something a bit special with this film. The plot sounded great and I like Bruce Willis. However, the trailer leaves me feeling disappointed. It looks like a much cheaper of version of I,Robot crossed with Virtuosity and The 13th Floor. Everything appears to be studio back lot and set bound and has a very 80's action movie feel to it.

It is due out on 25th September 2009.

That's just me. How do you feel about Surrogates after seeing the trailer? Has anyone read the comic it's based on?

Surrogates - Featurette showing Bruce Willis as a robot

Surrogates shows a world where people never leave their homes, interacting in the real world through surrogate robots which they can get made to look like anything they want to. It's a world without consequence, until two people die when their surrogates are "killed".

Bruce Willis plays a policeman who starts to investigate the ongoing murders using his own surrogate, until it comes time for him to leave his house and investigate in the real world.

Surrogates - Some on set photos of the Bruce Willis sci-fi film

It has been a while since there was any news on this comic book adaption. However, SciFiCool managed to get hold of some on set photos which I've posted here.
FBI agents (BRUCE WILLIS and RADHA MITCHELL) investigate the mysterious murder of a college student linked to the man who helped create a high-tech surrogate phenomenon that allows people to purchase unflawed robotic versions of themselves—fit, good looking remotely controlled machines that ultimately assume their life roles—enabling people to experience life vicariously from the comfort and safety of their own homes. The murder spawns a quest for answers: in a world of masks, who’s real and who can you trust?

I'm assuming that the blonde woman on the wires is one of the Surrogates and that she is doing some super-duper robot style running and/or jumping.
Surrogates stars Bruce Willis, Radha Mitchell, Rosamund Pike, James Francis Ginty, Boris Kodjoe and Ving Rhames. Jonathan Mostow (”Terminator: Rise of the Machines”) directs.

Surrogates - Poster and viral site

Disney are going to be showing some of the first clips of Jonathan Mostow’s sci-fi comic book adaptation Surrogates at the New York Comic Con.

Bruce Willis stars as an FBI Agent who is sent to investigate the mysterious murder of a college student linked to the man who helped create a high-tech surrogate phenomenon that allows people to purchase unflawed robotic versions of themselves—fit, good looking remotely controlled machines that ultimately assume their life roles—enabling people to experience life vicariously from the comfort and safety of their own homes. The murder spawns a quest for answers: in a world of masks, who’s real and who can you trust?

Photo of Bruce Willis in Surrogates

In a world of masks, who's real and who can you trust?

Here is the first official photo from Disney for the sci-fi thriller Surrogates . It stars Bruce Willis and is set in a futuristic world where humans live in isolation and interact through surrogate robots. Bruce plays an FBI agent who is forced to leave his home for the first time in years in order to investigate the murders of others' surrogates.

Interesting take on a detective story and always good to see a bit of sci-fi. I assume the photo of Bruce above is of the real man. I wonder what the Surrogates will look like - just younger versions of the people controlling them or weirder looking things? I do hope that it doesn't turn out that the murderer is a surrogate acting on it's own once it's human controller has died.
