Ninja Assassin – Trailer – Ninja Ninja Ninja

Finally, the first official trailer for James McTeigue's Ninja Assassin has hit the web on MTV. If you want some awesome ninja action then this is for you. McTeigue directed V for Vendetta and also worked on the Matrix films so you know he is well suited for some kick ass fight scenes.

The film stars Korean pop star Rain, Naomie Harris and Rick Yune.

Raizo (Rain) is one of the deadliest assassins in the world. Taken from the streets as a child, he was transformed into a trained killer by the Ozunu Clan, a secret society whose very existence is considered a myth. But haunted by the merciless execution of his friend by the Clan, Raizo breaks free from them…and vanishes.

Now he waits, preparing to exact his revenge. In Berlin, Europol agent Mika Coretti (Naomie Harris) has stumbled upon a money trail linking several political murders to an underground network of untraceable assassins from the Far East. Defying the orders of her superior, Ryan Maslow (Ben Miles), Mika digs into top secret agency files to learn the truth behind the murders. Her investigation makes her a target, and the Ozunu Clan sends a team of killers, led by the lethal Takeshi (Rick Yune), to silence her forever. Raizo saves Mika from her attackers, but he knows that the Clan will not rest until they are both eliminated.

Now, entangled in a deadly game of cat and mouse through the streets of Europe, Raizo and Mika must trust one another if they hope to survive…and finally bring down the elusive Ozunu Clan.

Have a look at the trailer and post your thoughts in the comments.

Due out on 25th November.

Ninja Assassin - Test Screening Review

AICN have been sent this review of James McTeigue's Ninja Assassin starring Rain and it sounds like we are going to get some cool ninja action. The review is full of spoilers and swearing so if you are averse to either then stop reading......now!

The movie opens with a tattoo artist giving some gang punk some ink on his back. The punk is whiny about it, crying like a bitch that it hurts to much. The old, wise artist goes on to explain that tattoos show how a man lived his life, the journey he took, etc. The punk asks if he has any tattoos, which the old man does. One right over his heart, a ninja slicing a sword where a giant scar is. The man goes on to say that he had seen "one" once. He won't even utter the word. Ninja. The punk and his friends laugh at the old man, mocking him with the word - ninja, ninja, ninja! An envelope arrives, in it is just black sand. Proceed to the bloodiest opening of movie I have ever seen. Ninjas are the fucking shit. Left and right, bodies are sliced in half. Limbs are cut off. Ninja stars are flying everywhere. If there is darkness, there are ninjas in it. They move in and out of the darkness like ghosts. I have never shit myself in a theatre before, but I almost did out of glee because I knew what I was in for.

Cue the plot of the movie which has to happen to move the story along. Two Interpol agents are working on a case of someone that has mysteriously died. They are brilliantly played by Naomie Harris as Mika, the black chick, and Ben Miles as Douchebag, P.I. (his name was Ryan according to IMDB, but I never heard it). I was being sarcastic when I said brilliant. Epic douche chills whenever they were on screen. Mika wasn't as bad as her co-star. Here's the deal. Mika, is working this case when she comes across some shit that leads her to believe someone was killed by ninjas, and there is 100,000 in Euros floating around or some bullshit. The plot sucked, but Joe Public needs their fucking story laid out in front of them or they don't get it. Apparently, they think there is some ninja clan taking little kids and training them to be full blown assassins. Well gee, they couldn't be more fucking right.

Rain, an actor whom I have never seen pwns this movie. He plays Raizo, orphan turned death machine. In the first 45 min of the film we cut back and forth with Raizo training to be a ninja, with the glue that is Mika and her obsession to find out what happened to this 100,000 in Euros. I'm dropping the subplot of the Euros now, because they did it in the movie too, but just dragged it out. Hold on for some awesomeness.

We see Raizo, held against his will as he is trained by his "father" - the leader of the Nine Clans. Raizo is one of many young children being trained. He learns the ways on the ninja, while so, falling for a girl who is the same age and training with him. Don't remember her name, sorry. She doesn't live too long anyways, so screw it. Raizo develops a bit of a problem with another student who he is training with. Long story short, his problem buddy end up killing his love interest when she is caught trying to escape the training ground.

Mature Raizo, in his twenties is mysteriously given ( AND NEVER FUCKING EXPLAINED ) picture of Mika. Holy shit, he's gonna kill this bitch! No. FAIL. Mika goes home to find that the lights have been cut off for three blocks in her neighborhood. BItch, if there are people, waiting outside your apartment complex, and you have been busy at work all day tracking motherfucking ninjas, are you going to go in your dark apartment? Of course she does. Christ. Dumb broads. So, shit for brains Mika goes on up to her pitch black apartment for god knows what reason ( NEVER FUCKING EXPLAINED ) and is of course attacked by a ninja! Holy shit! Raizo was sent to kill her! No. Raizo was sent to SAVE HER - (insert epic YUCK here). Raizo slices some motherfucking ninja ass apart... in her apartment, and escapes with her. So now we have Mika (the plot) and Raizo (epic awesomeness) together.

Raizo and Mika go, they exchange stories as what they are each looking for. Mika wants to know where these Euros are, Raizo, tells her she is basically dead unless she does what he says. There are some comedic moments which the audience laughed at, including myself, involving Mika's pants size. Raizo and Mika hit it off, so it's obvious that there is a romance blooming. Mika learns that Raizo left the clan/cult he was in and is looking for revenge. Awesome right? Mika tells Raizo she can help him by calling Douchebag, P.I. Raizo agrees, and is obviously trapped by the Douche and the Interpol/Special Forces. The amount of people it takes to trick one Ninja is unbelievable. They capture Raizo like a dog, literally.

So now, we're holed up in some hidden building the Douche, P.I. is running. Mika is pissed she was double crossed by Douchey P.I., and Raizo is chained the fuck down to a wall. Fuck the story, here come ninjas. Thirsty for Raizo's blood. They've been searching for him for years, and now they know where he is. Another epic death scene. Agents bodies being sliced in half, limbs everywhere. Mika helps Raizo escape, but only after turning into every character that has ever had to turn a key in a horror movie. Holy fucking shit, we get it. People get nervous, and they drop their keys. I wouldn't think that an AGENT would be scared shitless and dropping her keys when trying to pull handcuffs off someone. I swear to god, if I could punch film and hurt it, I fucking would. Raizo and Mika escape, EPIC awesome escape sequence. Ninjas fighting on the highway, one of the best HOLY SHIT moments I've seen recently, and bam, onto the third act.

Raizo gets captured by his old clan. Mika plants a special tracking device in him. Here comes the epic fucking battle. ONE, with a SWAT team storming the ninja clan's hideout, 2. an awesome fight between master vs sensei. I have never seen a ninja face Hummers, machine guns or rocket launchers. Until tonight. I witnessed the most over the top violent ending to a movie ever. Mika is killed, thank god, Raizo kills his master, after an EPIC battle.

END SPOILERS.

The movie fucking ruled.

I learned two things. One, ninjas live in the darkness. Two, ninjas will kill the fuck out of me. I couldn't have been happier leaving the theatre. Watching ninjas move in the shadows was amazing. Overall, I give the movie a B+. Rain stole the show. The blood and violence stole the show. I'm scared for my fucking life because of ninjas. I'm going to suck on a bar of xanax and finish they glass of whiskey I poured. I could not be happier that I drove out to watch this movie. Yes, it had it's issues, but when it comes down to it, I was happy that I was just spoon fed an abundance of violence and blood. I'll be there again opening weekend... with a flashlight.

Sleeping with the lights on, if you use this call me, this time,

TED'S FOOTBALL EMPORIUM.

Now that sounds like my kind of Ninja film.

Wachowski's are not getting into Superman's tights

Last week I posted the news / rumour that the Wachowski Brothers had been in talks with DC and Warner Bros about possibly directing the reboot of Superman. James McTeigue had apparantly mentioned it on a radio show in Germany while he was bigging up Ninja Assassin.

Well now, according to /film, that piece of news has been confirmed as a big fat untruth. Double plus ungood as that would have been something to see.

Oh well, that's life in the ever changing world in which we live in. Say live and let die and all that.

If the Wachowski brothers aren't doing it who do you feel should direct the Superman reboot? Does anyone know if James McTeigue actually appeared on that radio show?

Superman Reloaded - Wachowski's may direct reboot. Oh and some Ninja Assassin and Plastic Man news.

AICN heard from a reliable source that James McTeigue (director of Ninja Assassin) had been on the radio in Berlin where Ninja Assassin had been filmed. He chatted about how the shoot had gone. McTeigue then chatted about his plans regarding Plastic Man and that the Wachowski Brothers had been approached to direct a trilogy of films for the Man of Steel (wonder if it is anything to do with Mark Millar's Superman trilogy). Here is a break down of what was said.
- Ninja Assassin is locked and complete. Awaiting a suitable marketing strategy and release from WB. Looking likely to be a late summer release.

- Action scenes are absolutely brutal, unbelievable vision from the Wachowski's in blocking the fights with the Hong Kong stunt team.

- Spoke about the benefits of tax breaks received from the German and British Governments in making the film.

- McTeigue confirmed that Plastic Man was the next project in the pipeline for the Wachowski's and he had been signed on to provide Second Unit support. Says the movie has been delayed indefinitely due to a major shake up of projects at WB.

- Bryan Singer has refused to undertake a re-boot of the Superman franchise and has left the Executives at WB with no choice but to take a fresh creative direction.

- He stated the Wachowski Brothers had been approached to re-boot the franchise as a trilogy and they are currently reviewing their options as its like being asked to take the final play in a superbowl final. Says if they do agree, he will likely either succumb to providing second unit support on the movie or will champion the directorship of Plastic Man - He started to giggle as he stated its like a young child for the Brothers and they wont give that up easily.

- Says, the very thought of the brothers making a superman movie is unbelievable as they have grown up in the world of comic books and they would be ideal for the project.

- Stated that Bryan Singer is looking to move on to Logan's Run a movie to be produced by Joel Silver.

Thinking about this I do feel that the Wachowski's could do a pretty cool Superman film. Neo was pretty much Kal-El by the end of the Matrix trilogy and even struck some Superman poses in his final battle with Agent Smith, as I mentioned when it appeared as one of The Best Fight Scenes Ever! (pity the Matrix Trilogy went steadily downhill as the series progressed in my humble opinion). However, they do get the whole comic book ethos and do always manage to push the special effects in all of their films. Fingers crossed that if they do take it on then they will make something truly special - it's got to be a damn site better than Superman Returns anyway (hope they get rid of the kid!)

If the Wachowski's do take on Superman what do you want to see in the trilogy? Should it go back to the very beginning? Should Brandon Routh still play Clark Kent or should someone else be brought on board to play him?

Ninja Assassin - Watch Rain train for the title role

Filmstalker have word on Ninja Assassin.

The video below shows Korean pop star Rain training hard for his role - also has some of the stunts including some wirework. It's a great piece of film and interesting to see the amount of work they put in for the fight scenes. Ninja Assassin should be amazing going by this.

Ninja Scrolls to go Live Action

This from First Showing.

First it was Akira, now it's Ninja Scroll, too. Leonardo DiCaprio's production company Appian Way will be producing a live-action adaptation of the classic anime movie for Warner Brothers. Screenwriter Alex Tse, who wrote Zack Snyder's upcoming Watchmen as well as Michael Mann's upcoming Frankie Machine, will be writing the script. No director has been announced yet, but considering Akira picked up a no-name director, I expect Ninja Scroll to probably do the same. At one point, it was rumored that James McTeigue's Ninja Assassin was a Ninja Scroll remake, but that was quickly debunked. Now it's actually happening.

Ninja Scroll is a Japanese action thriller anime written and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Yoshiaki Kawajiri. The film was first released in Japan in 1993 and made its way to the US in 1996, where it quickly became one of the most popular anime movies in US history. The anime is set feudal Japan and tells the story of a ninja-for-hire who is forced into fighting an old nemesis who is bent on overthrowing the Japanese government. His nemesis is also the leader of a group of demons each with superhuman powers. In addition to Akira, it's regarded as one of the best anime movies ever made and is just as popular.

One of the biggest questions surrounding this is whether or not all of the violence, gore, sex, and nudity will remain intact in this translation. I'm expecting that Warner Brothers will try to make this PG-13, but then again, it could very well be R. I'm thinking they're waiting to see how Ninja Assassin does in theaters, since that is a very hard R ninja movie. Either way, this is quite an exciting future for anime fans, with Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop, and now Ninja Scroll all being converted into live-action Hollywood adaptations.

What do you think of that news?

Ninja Assassin news

Above is a photo from the new Ninja Assassin movie by James McTeigue (V for Vendetta). The Wachowski Brothers and Joel Silver are producing and it's written by J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5, Rising Stars, Spider-Man) based on an idea by the Wachowski's. The guy with the swords is an actor called Rain (Speed Racer) who plays the ninja called Raizo. It also stars Naomi Harris (28 Days Later, Pirates of the Caribbean 2 & 3).
Ninja Assassin follows Raizo (Rain), one of the deadliest assassins in the world.
