Thundercats concept art...Snarf!

MovieLine have some wonderful images based on the script, written by Paul Sopocy which was to follow Lion-O’s origin myth from young cub to his anointment as Lord of the ThunderCats, and was to be directed by veteran art director Jerry O’Flaherty.

Movieline has obtained O’Flaherty’s never-before-seen Thundercats concept art, demonstrating just how gorgeous and ambitious his vision for this production is.

No word on what is going to happen and if this will even see the light of day, but they sure are pretty. Above is Lion-O and below is Mumm-Ra's pyramid.
What do you think of the images?

Sucker Punch - Art from Zack Snyder's next film

Check out the first piece of art from Zack Snyder's original film, Sucker Punch.

The story follows a young girl institutionalized by her wicked stepfather. Retreating to an "alternative reality" as a coping strategy, she envisions a plan which will help her escape from the facility. Emily Browning stars as Baby Doll and is joined by Abbie Cornish, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone, and Vanessa Hudgens.

TRON LEGACY - Production Art - Looks amazing

Here is the first look at the title design for the TRON sequel. Below is some of the production art that was shown at Comic Con. We've got lightcycles, lightcars and lots more. Simply stunning.

I am assuming that the concept art was done by Daniel Simon as he was rumoured to be doing it back in February - check out that post for some more amazing artwork.

The trailer from last year has now been released in HD so have a look at the new light cycles in action. Stunning.

Second Generation Light Cycle: Designed in 1989 by Kevin Flynn and “rumor has it its still the fastest thing on the grid” It looks like an inbetween model in the evolution of light cycles, incorporating some of the look of the first film and the realness and slickness of the new design.
The Light Cycle: a much more evolved version of the light cycle which many saw in the trailer from last year’s con.
Light Runner, which is like a light cycle, but can hold 2 passengers. It is said to be very fast, and has the unique ability to go off the grid on its own power.

/film also had a description of a scene shown at Comic Con and it sounds pretty good. It is outside the computer world:
The scene involved Kevin’s son being told in voiceover that someone received a page from his father’s old office, which has been abandoned for over 20 years. Flynn’s son shows up on a motor cycle. Flynn’s arcade has been long abandoned. He opens the door to reveal a room full of arcade machines, all covered with sheets. He inspects the old shut down arcade, and it is clear no one has been here in ages. He switches on the power and all the arcades turn on, as does a jukebox, which is playing retro 1980’s music. He goes up stairs to Flynn’s old office, which also looks untouched, everything covered. The next shot was kinda magical. He walks down an isle of games which ends with the Tron arcade game. He uncovers it and we see the retro 80’s graphics. He sticks in a quarter but the machine rejects it. He pulls out the machine to take a look at the back, and discovers a secret door. He opens the door and enters the darkness. Cut to black.

G.I. Joe - What will Destro's Mask really look like

Here is an almost proper look at what Destro (Christopher Eccleston) will look like once he masks up in G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra.

I posted some early CGI work on the mask ages ago but this seems a little more updated and looks very nice indeed. Just have to wait and see what it looks like in the film now.

It is the art work from the action figure that UGO managed to get hold of.

Very shiny!

Timeline of Sci-Fi movies

Dan Meth put together this brilliant chart putting futuristic films into their chronological order. He should have put Star Wars on A long time ago, but apart from that he seems to have got all the major movies.

Has he missed any classics?

What Deadpool could have looked like.

Now I know a lot of people (myself included) were not happy with the look of Deapool at the end of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Shiny skin, no mouth, swords kept in his arms meaning he can't bend the arms if the swords are not extended. Still Ryan Reynolds was cool at the start of the film.

It was not the cancer faced, masked merc with a mouth we loved for the comic.

Now this concept art won't make it any easier for us. While still different to the original version there are at least a few nods to his mask and look in the version above by Phillip Boutte Jr. They look as if they were for the Wade Wilson version at the start of the film.

The art below is similar to the final version in the film, but is a lot more sinister looking. Still not quite Deadpool, but it would have been better than the one we saw in the film. Mind you it does look a little like Torquemada from the 2000AD Nemesis the Warlock comic strip.

Crazy 4 Cult 3-D is coming - Goonies never say die

I love the Crazy 4 Cult art exhibition. They always have such cool spins on classic cult movie images such as the promotional postcard above featuring The Goonies. It was created by Dave Perillo (check out his blog as there are many pieces of excellent artwork on there). I'm looking forward to more great pieces of art. The show is due to start next month in Los Angeles.

Marvel Divas

"In the series, they're an unlikely foursome of friends—Black Cat, Hell Cat, Firestar, and Photon—with TWO things in common: They're all leading double-lives and they're all having romantic trouble... there's definitely that 'naughty' element to it, but I also think the series is doing to a deeper place, asking question about what it means...truly means...to be a woman in an industry dominated by testosterone and guns. (And I mean both the super hero industry and the comic book industry.) But mostly it's just a lot of hot fun" - Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa

According to io9 Joe Quesada was getting a bit of hassle from people saying this all sounded a bit sexist. He responded as follows.
If you're [a] Marvel reader and truly feel we're sexist, then why are you reading our books? Now, perhaps you're not a Marvel reader, then if that's the case, I'm not quite sure what you're criticizing if you don't read our books?

...The cold hard reality of publishing and trying to sell our books to as many people as possible, so here's an example of what happens more often than you may think here at Marvel. From time to time, we'll be launching a title that doesn't focus very heavily on the super heroic. From time to time I'll get a cover sketch and it doesn't have a costumed hero or villain on the cover, what we internally refer to as a "quiet cover." On those occasions, more often than not, I ask my editors to direct their cover artist to give me at least a first issue cover with the characters in costume. Why? Because it will help launch a book that will most likely have trouble latching onto a large audience. We want to give every title the best possible chance to be successful. Marvel Divas is no different and that's why you're seeing our strong female leads in their super hero personas. Let me try an example outside of comics. I'm a huge fan of Pink, I really dig her music and love her voice. Love her or hate her, I would say that she's an amazingly strong and intelligent female performer and song writer in the pop genre. In many of her songs she even criticizes the over sexualized female pop stars of the day and their over the top videos. But when you look at Pink's CD covers, while she's looking strong and like she's looking like she's having fun, she's also looking really sexy. The reason is simple, she's trying to grab people's attention and sell some albums. Comics are no different and as much a part of the entertainment business as any other medium, and the cold hard truth is that if we were to launch Marvel Divas with a "quiet cover," I guarantee you the book would be canceled before it hits the shelves. That's it in a nutshell, I could sugar coat it for you and give you a million other reasons that would sound plausible, but that's not what I do.
