Timeline of Sci-Fi movies

Dan Meth put together this brilliant chart putting futuristic films into their chronological order. He should have put Star Wars on A long time ago, but apart from that he seems to have got all the major movies.

Has he missed any classics?

Another remake? Commando indeedo

Remake, remake, remake. That's all it seems to be these days. Recently it has been mentioned that Total Recall is to be remade, Predators is to be reimagined and now another Arnold Schwarzenegger classis is going the remake way.

JoBlo was pointed to a piece in an Australian magazine named RCI that indicated Commando was in line for a remake.

The site also checked with its own sources who also have, "heard whispers" of this remake . The source also indicated that the idea for the reboot had been brewing for some time now.

Looks like John Matrix will be slapping on the old camo and kicking ass once again.

Open Your Mind! - Total Recall remake gets a writer

Lately it seems that all we are getting from Hollywood is remake after remake. This post does nothing to change that trend.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kurt Wimmer (Equilibrium, Ultraviolet) has signed on to write the remake of Total Recall for Columbia Pictures.

The original, which was based off the book "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale" by Phillip K. Dick, starred Schwarzenegger as a man haunted by visions of Mars and, after getting a virtual Mars vacation from a company called Rekall, goes to Mars himself to fight with rebels trying to win back control of the air supply.

Neil H. Moritz is producing the remake and, although plot details weren't given on the remake, it was said to be a, "contemporized adaptation." Wimmer also wrote the upcoming films Law Abiding Citizen and Salt, which is currently filming.

Again, I don't really see the need for a remake of this film, but what do I know.

As it looks like it is going ahead who do you want to see get their ass to Mars in the lead role?

Paul Verhoeven has The Surrogate

The Dutch director, Paul Verhoeven (Black Book, Total Recall, Robocop, Hollow Man, Starship Troopers) has signed on to develop and direct The Surrogate, a thriller for 20th Century Fox.

It is based on the 2004 book by Kathryn Mackel, the story centers on a couple desperate to have a child who find themselves in an unbearable position when they find out the surrogate they hired to carry their baby is insane.

The description from the book is "Kyle and Bethany Dolan reel from years of infertility, miscarriages, and finally, a disastrous hysterectomy. They are desperate to find the perfect surrogate mother to carry their last frozen embryo. Sable Lynde, a computer genius with a dark history, is desperate to escape her own inner demons, her dark past, and a dangerous loan shark. Sable assumes the identity of a surrogacy candidate so perfect that the Dolans welcome her into their family without reservation. As the pregnancy progresses, the dangers of Sable’s deception escalate until the unthinkable happens–Sable’s dark demons spill out into the Dolans’ lives–even as she lies in a coma. A thrill-ride of suspense and terror, this novel leads readers to a breathtaking climax."

The question is will this be good Verhoeven or Showgirls Verhoeven directing it?

The Random - Total Recall remake, Suicide Squad, The Perfect Moment, Robin Hood, The Neverending Story, Arthur,

Eliza Dushku ("Buffy," "Dollhouse") is using her clout to bring The Perfect Moment, a biopic about iconic photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, to the big screen says Variety. The story will chronicle Mapplethorpe's career from his rise to fame in the 1970s for his portraits of socialites and rock stars until his death in 1989 at age 42 from complications arising from AIDS. Ondi Timoner ("DIG!") is to direct.

Cate Blanchett is officially onboard to play Maid Marian alongside Russell Crowe in the Ridley Scott-directed adventure feature Robin Hood (previously called Nottingham) for Universal Pictures reports the trades.

Warner Bros. Pictures, Kennedy/Marshall Co. and Leonard DiCaprio's Appian Way are all in discussions about reviving the 1980's kid fantasy classic The NeverEnding Story says The Hollywood Reporter.

Peter Baynham (Borat, Bruno, The Day Today) will pen the remake of Dudley Moore 1981 comedy Arthur for Warner Bros. Pictures reports Variety. The project is being crafted as a vehicle for Russell Brand ("Forgetting Sarah Marshall") as the boozy playboy whose plan to marry into a moneyed family goes awry when he falls in love with a working class gal.

Paul Verhoeven's 1990 sci-fi modern classic Total Recall is getting a remake for Sony Pictures says The Hollywood Reporter. Neal H. Moritz and Original will develop and produce the contemporary version of the Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sharon Stoen-led actioneer based a Philip K. Dick story.

Justin Marks (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, Greyskull, Green Arrow: Supermax) will adapt the DC Comics property Suicide Squad as a feature film for Warner Bros. Pictures and Lin Pictures says the trades. Originally a back-up feature in 1960s "The Brave and the Bold," the stories focused on a team of non-super-powered people fighting monstrous menaces. The Squad was reconceived in the 1980s as a team of supervillains given one last shot at redemption by the government by accomplishing missions that will most likely kill them. This is the setup that Warners will work from. The villains involved have yet to be determined though Deadshot, an assassin with wrist-mounted guns, is a strong candidate.
