The new flesh weeps - Videodrome to be remade.
The very first quote I used for the Live for Films tagline was "Long live the new flesh." This was of course a great quote from David Cronenberg's 1983 classic, Videodrome.
Now Universal have announced that they are going to remake it...
They've already hired writer Ehren Kruger (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen most recently) to put together a script, with Daniel Bobker (The Skeleton Key, The Brothers Grimm) producing.
There is no director yet but it is going to be updated turning it into a "large-scale sci-fi action thriller." A remake of Cronenberg's Scanners is also in development, but has hit some problems recent recently regarding the rights.
The original Videodrome starred James Woods as the head of Civic TV Channel 83, who makes his station relevant by programming "Videodrome," a series that depicts torture and murder that transfixes viewers.
He then becomes insane, possessed and/or totally messed up.
As they are currently remaking anything and everything I can't be surprised at this, but I really think they should leave the 'drome alone. James Woods was amazing in the lead. Still nothing can do to stop it. However, a remake of Scanners could possibly work.
What are your thoughts?
