The Dr Who theme played using Tesla Coils - That's lightning bolts to you and me

That's right. Lightning + Dr Who = Coolness. That's scientific fact.

The always excellent Topless Robot came across this and I had to share it. Not only does it use Tesla Coils in a totally pointless yet cool way it also features a man on stilts.

It was all done by ArcAttack at the Chattacon 2009. Apparantly the Tesla coils provide the 'guitar' sound in these performances, along with a a backing track and he also has an automated robotic drum-kit. Here's another clip of him in action.

ArcAttack's website states:

ArcAttack employs a unique DJ set up of their own creation (an HVDJ set up) to generate an 'electrifying' audio visual performance. The HVDJ pumps music through a PA System while two specially designed DRSSTC's (Dual-Resonant Solid State Tesla Coils) act as separate synchronized instruments.

These high tech machines produce an electrical arc similar to a continuous lightning bolt which put out a crisply distorted square wave sound reminiscent of the early days of synthesizers.
