Comic-Con International has a few cool things already and now Seth Rogen made a special appearance to unveil The Green Hornet's Black Beauty car, along with director Michel Gondry, producer Neil Moritz and co-writer Evan Goldberg.

Nicolas Cage to be the big bad in The Green Hornet

Stephen Chow is out so they are looking for a new Kato. Seth Rogen has been getting in shape to play the titular hero and Cameron Diaz was recently announced to star in the Michel Gondry directed film that may be funny, may be dramatic, may be whatever as they are still unsure what direction to take the film in.

Now Variety announced that Nicolas Cage - he of the pointing, shouting, twitching and variable hair - is in the early stages of playing the Gangster Villain of the piece.

I know in the past I have given the Cagester some stick, but I do like him. It is just that lately he has made some naff decisions with regards scripts and the way to play the characters he portrays. He seems to have been just going through the motions and become a parody of his former self.

Maybe, just maybe, with The Sorcerer's Apprentice and now this he may get himself back on the cool map. All depends on the length of his hair when he plays the part. I really must write up my theory on Cage's hair length versus the quality of his films.

Do you think Cage will be a good bad guy in the Green Hornet? Should he play it loud and crazy or quiet and subtle?

The Thorn in the Heart - Michel Gondry's new documentary has been picked up by the Beastie Boys' Oscilloscope Laboratories

Oscilloscope Laboratories announced today that it has acquired North American distribution rights to Michel Gondry's documentary, The Thorn in the Heart ("L'Epine dans le Coeur"), a personal look at the life of Gondry family matriarch, his aunt Suzette Gondry, and her relationship with her son, Jean-Yves. The Thorn in the Heart had its world premiere screening in the official selection at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. Oscilloscope will open the film in theaters, with a DVD and digital release to follow.

Michel examines Suzette's years as a school teacher and her life in rural France. During the course of filming the documentary, Michel unearths new family stories and uses his camera to explore them in a subtle and sensitive way. The film was produced and financed by Partizan Films.

Michel: "So I called up my best friend Etienne and told him, 'Guess who's distributing my documentary about my aunt?' and he said, 'who?' and I said, 'MCA from Beastie Boys' and Etienne said, 'The Beastie Boy bought your Aunt's documentary?! Get the f*** out of here!' and I said, 'Yeah!!!'"

Adam Yauch, head of Oscilloscope Laboratories said, "Michel is one of the most innovative and creative people in the world. So it's great to see him making a sincere doc on a subject that is so close to his heart."

Michel Gondry to direct The Green Lantern...well the Green part is right!

Michel Gondry is in negotiations to direct The Green Hornet, Columbia's big-screen treatment of the classic crime-fighting hero being portrayed by Seth Rogen.

Stephen Chow had been tapped to direct but dropped out over creative differences. He is still expected to co-star as Kato, the Hornet's trusty sidekick and chauffeur.

Since Chow's departure, the project has been the subject of speculation that it was sliding into development hell, but the studio is intent on making the feature one of its 2010 tentpoles.

The choice of Gondry, the helmer behind off-the-beaten-path films such as "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," "The Science of Sleep" and "Be Kind Rewind," signals that the creative direction the studio and the film's producer, Neal Moritz, are trying to take the project is one not usually associated with the usual crime-fighter movie.

"Hornet" follows the adventures of Britt Reid, a bored playboy who inherits his father's crusading newspaper, the Daily Sentinel. By night he is a masked hero, fighting crime with his sidekick Kato, who has incredible martial arts skills.

Now I love Gondry's style but not sure if it is the right thing for the Hornet. Think he would be perfect for a weird, bizarre comic book hero such as The Creeper or Ambush Bug (probably lots more but my mind has gone blank), but the Green Hornet is more real world based. Whatever happens it will be a visual feast if Gondry stays on board.

Tokyo! - Trailer for 3 part compilation

Trailer for the upcoming film Tokyo!, which provides a compilation of three short films from directors Michel Gondry, Leos Carax and Bong Joon-Ho. The films are as follows:

Interior Design (Michel Gondry)
Hiroko and Akira (Ayako Fujitani and Ryo Kase), a young couple, arrive in Tokyo to pursue their careers, moving in temporarily with Hiroko's old friend Akemi (Ayumi Ito), a career girl whose boyfriend quickly tires of the houseguests. Hiroko and Akira appear to have a solid and mutually supportive relationship that will seemingly carry them through any challenge. Akira, the young man, takes steps towards his ambition to become a filmmaker, but the woman is less sure of herself and gradually she begins to lose herself in the vast city. Ultimately she under-goes a surreal metamorphoses that gives her an unexpected sense of peace and purpose. Adapted from the comic "Cecil and Jordan in New York."

Merde (Leos Carax)
Merde (a French term translating as "shit") is the name given to an unkempt, gibberish-spewing subterranean creature of the Tokyo sewers, played by Denis Lavant, who rises from the underground lair where he dwells to attack unsuspecting locals in increasingly brazen and terrifying ways: he steals cash and cigarettes from passersby, frightens old women and salaciously licks schoolgirls, resulting in a televised media frenzy that creates mounting hysteria among the Tokyo populace. After discovering an arsenal of hand grenades in his underground lair, Merde slips into full-on assault mode, hurling the munitions at random citizens and creating a Godzilla-like atmosphere of urban terror, which the media promptly laps up and reflects back to its equally voracious television audience. Enter pompous French magistrate Maître Voland (Jean-François Balmer) - a dead ringer for the sewer creature's gnarled and twisted demeanor - who arrives in Tokyo to represent Merde's inevitable televised trial, claiming to be the sole person in the world able to speak his client's unintelligible language. The media circus mounts as lawyer defends client in a surreal court of law hungry for a satisfying resolution. Merde is tried, convicted and sentenced to death - until justice takes an unexpected turn.

Shaking Tokyo (Bong Joon-ho)
Teruyuki Kagawa stars as a Tokyo shut-in, or hikikimori, who has not left his apartment in a decade. His only link to the outside world is through his telephone, which he uses to command every necessity from a series of random and anonymous delivery people, including the pizza that he lives on and the hundreds of discarded pizza cartons he meticulously stacks in and around his cramped apartment. But one day is different - his pizza arrives thanks to a lovely young woman who succeeds in catching the shut-in's eye. Suddenly an earthquake strikes Tokyo, prompting the beautiful young delivery woman to faint in her client's apartment. And then the unthinkable happens - the hikikimori falls hopelessly in love. Time passes and the shut-in discovers through another pizza delivery person that the improbable object of his affections has become a hikikimori in her own right. Taking a bold leap into the unknown, our hero crosses the threshold of his apartment and takes to the streets in search of his mystery girl, at last discovering his kindred spirit at the very moment another earthquake strikes.

Master of Space and Time - Michel Gondry to direct Jack Black and Dave Chappelle

Not heard of Master of Space and Time until now but came across it while looking into the previous Jack Black story. I am always up for a new Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Science of Sleep) film. Even if the film is not that good story wise there is always some amazing visual trick to be seen that requires repeat viewing.

It is based on the 1984 novel by Rudy Rucker and is being adapted by Daniel Clowes who wrote the comic books Ghost World and David Boring amongst others. Clowes has been attached to write a screenplay based on the true story of three boys who made a shot-for-shot remake of Raiders of the Lost Ark over the course of 7 years. The project is currently untitled.

"Master of Space Time is Rudy Rucker's take on the ultimate power fantasy. Computer programmer Joe Fletcher and eccentric inventor Harry Gerber play with time, certainty, and causality to attain space-time mastery sufficient enough to alter the very fabric of reality at will. They open a multi- dimensional doorway and step through to a 'looking-glass' world ruled by a giant brain, 'Gary Herber,' who has the instincts of a televangelist and who can clone himself. The Herber-brain clones attach symbiotically to humans, who begin acting like oversexed Republicans. The pair, assisted by Herber's girlfriend Sondra Tupperware, destroy the brain and return to this dimension, were they discover that one of the clones has crossed over as well. "

Just checked Wikipedia and that states, "Master of Space and Time is a 1984 novel by Rudy Rucker that centers on an inventor, Harry Gerber, who discovers a way to create his own tailor-made universe.

The novel has also been adapted and is being produced for DreamWorks Pictures by writer Daniel Clowes. Director Michel Gondry, who directed Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Science of Sleep announced that he is no longer set to direct the project."

As it is Wikipedia I'm not sure how true the Michel Gondry part is. Can anyone else shed any light on it?
