Dollhouse Season 1 - Epitaph One Sneak Peek

Dollhouse is the Joss Whedon series where people have memories and skills downloaded into them and at the end of each mission they have their memory wiped. The Feds are after them and Eliza Dushku looks lovely. All well and good. Unlike Firefly, Dollhouse has been given a second series.

However, there was a final episode from the first series that is yet to be shown. It is called Epitaph One and is set in 2019 after some kind of apocalypse. Who knew! It stars Felicia Day and here is a sneak peek.

Wonder Woman - Could she be one of the Seekers

Wonder Woman is a film that has been in development hell for a long time now. Various writers and directors, including fan favourite Joss Whedon have been attached to guide DC Comics Amazon Princess to the big screen. However no one is currently at the helm.

More interest is on who will actually play Diana and fill her rather small costume. Many names have been rumoured from Beyonce to Jessica Biel. Megan Fox was recently asked about it and she said she had no interest in the role.

Now a new name has entered the internet debate and that is of Bridget Regan. She is one of the stars in Legend of the Seeker and her fans have put together an online petition to let the people in charge know she is right for the part.

“We feel that [Bridget Regan] has all the right qualities to give justice to the character of Wonder Woman,” reads the online petition located at PetitionSpot. “All we are asking is to at least give Bridget Regan a screen test to see if she fits the necessary requirements to fulfill the role of Wonder Woman.”

The statement, addressed to Warner Brothers, DC Comics, and Disney ABC currently has just over a hundred signatures from Regan’s supporters, urging anyone in charge of the project to give her a screen test.

I've not seen Bridget in action, but she certainly looks the part. As there is no director casting is still a long way away so this is one of those early rumours that usually end up as dead as a doornail.

Buffy's heading back to the big screen. Joss is nowhere to be seen.

A new incarnation of Buffy the Vampire Slayer could be coming to the big screen according to The Hollywood Reporter.

However, the big news is that Joss Whedon isn't involved and it's not set up at a studio, but Roy Lee and Doug Davison of Vertigo Entertainment are working with original movie director Fran Rubel Kuzui and her husband, Kaz Kuzui, on what is being labeled a remake or relaunch, but not a sequel or prequel.

While Whedon is the person most associated with "Buffy," Kuzui and her Kuzui Enterprises have held onto the rights since the beginning, when she discovered the "Buffy" script from then-unknown Whedon. She developed the script while her husband put together the financing to make the 1992 movie, which was released by Fox.

Kuzui later teamed with Gail Berman, then president of Sandollar Television, bringing back Whedon to make the TV series, which was produced by Fox TV and launched on the WB in 1997. Kuzui and Sandollar received executive producer credits on "Buffy" and its spinoff, "Angel."

The new "Buffy" film, however, would have no connection to the TV series, nor would it use popular supporting characters like Angel, Willow, Xander or Spike. Vertigo and Kuzui are looking to restart the story line without trampling on the beloved existing universe created by Whedon, putting the parties in a similar situation faced by Paramount, J.J. Abrams and his crew when relaunching "Star Trek."

One of the underlying ideas of "Buffy" allows Vertigo and Kuzui to do just that: that each generation has its own vampire slayer to protect it. The goal would be to make a darker, event-sized movie that would, of course, have franchise potential.

Captain Kirk's Dad is Thor

Chris Hemsworth, who played George Kirk in the opening of J J Abrams Star Trek has been cast as Thor in Kenneth Branagh’s big screen adaptation of Marvel’s comic. That means he will also be playing the Thunder God in the Summer 2012 film The Avengers.

Nikki Finke reports that Marvel and Branagh made the final decision earlier today after reviewing Hemsworth’s test footage. Chris is currently in production on the Joss Whedon-written Drew Goddard-directed horror film The Cabin in the Woods. The Australian actor (who used to star in Home and Away) was also just cast as the lead role in MGM’s Red Dawn remake last week.

Written by Mark Protosevich, Thor has been described as being “like a superhero origin story, but not one about a human gaining super powers, but of a god realizing his true potential. It’s the story of an Old Testament god who becomes a New Testament god”.

Marvel has announced a release date of 17th June 2011 for the film.

I thought Hemsworth was great in the Trek movie, so I'm happy with the casting. The other plus is that he is not a huge name or familiar face yet so it will be easier to buy into him as Thor.

Andy Hallett has passed away

Andy Hallett, who played the singing nightclub-host demon Lorne (who could read people from their auras when they sang) in Angel, has died of heart failure at age 33
E! Online reports that the actor passed away at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles on Sunday night with his father Dave at his side.

Hallett had struggled with heart failure for several years and been hospitalised several times.

After appearing in more than 70 episodes of the show, Hallett concentrated on his music career and performed across the United States.

Wonder Woman may be heading over from her Island Paradise

IESB have the news that the Amazon Princess may be getting her way to the silver screen after all.

There was a regime change late last year over at Silver Pictures, Andrew Roma is now the man in charge and will be the man spearheading the live action Wonder Woman project along with mega producer Joel Silver.

Sources in the Burbank studios have confirmed there is quite a bit of movement on the WW front. With Green Lantern going into production this year, it looks like Princess Diana may finally get the go ahead from WB.

WB and Silver Pictures are in the early stages but they are eager to get started on the movie. Sources tell IESB that WB is looking for new writers on the project and have been taking pitches the last few weeks.

This project has been back and forth a number of times. At one point Joss Whedon was attached to direct and another script was set during World War II.

I don't think Wonder Woman has ever been done correctly on screen so I do hope they get this right. It would also be great if they could tie it into the Green Lantern and other DC Comic based films.

Stallone brings Charisma and Stone Cold to the Expendables.

Some more casting news for Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables has hit.

Variety reports that WWE alum "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and Joss Whedon veteran, Charisma Carpenter ("Angel", "Buffy the Vampire Slayer") have joined the cast of the film, which was written and will be directed by Sly.

The two join a growing cast which includes Sylvester Stallone, Forest Whitaker, Eric Roberts, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Randy Couture, Dolph Lungdren, Mickey Rourke and a cameo by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Stallone seems to be being rather clever with his casting and going for actors who cover a multitude of genres. This should hopefully bring in the viewers when the film is released.

Cabin in the Woods - Joss Whedon tells us things about it but the things may not be true.

There's a cool article by Todd Brown over on AMC that talks about Joss Whedon's latest film project, Cabin in the Woods. It is a great example of how to use rumours and the internet to spread the word on a film...and by writing this I am helping it go further.

It's co-written and produced by Whedon, with writer and director Drew Goddard (Cloverfield, Lost).

Word of their project first surfaced in July with little more than an
announcement that it was happening and that Whedon and Goddard were both
involved. The duo wouldn't even reveal the plot -- Goddard teased in an
interview with MTV, "It's got a harder and darker edge, but it's
also got classic Whedon qualities. It'll rip your heart out and be heartfelt at
the same time." MGM exec Mary Parent who greenlit the movie told
The Hollywood Reporter, "I'll be shot [if I say anything] ... It's
an intense visceral thrill ride and I'll leave it at that." Whedon's only
comment was "it's the horror movie to end all horror movies... literally," a
quote that still has fans buzzing over at fan site Whedonesque: "I'm curious
about what is implied by the description ... Many people misuse 'literally' so
that it means nothing in particular. But Joss uses language carefully. That
'literally' suggests some sort of interesting deconstruction of the genre."

So who would be the face of the film? Would you believe the dead father
from Six Feet Under (Richard Jenkins) and cabinet member from The West Wing
(Bradley Whitford)? "It's really just your basic typecasting," said
Goddard, "when you need two actors to run through the woods in
low-cut nighties, you immediately think of Richard Jenkins and Bradley
Whitford."

On January 24, based on information culled from inside-the-industry
casting calls and databases, the NewYork Times announced the addition of Bill Nighy and Jena Malone to the cast while also giving the following synopsis: "A group of five college kids are tricked into spending a weekend at a cabin where they will be sacrificed to appease the Gods and save the world."

In retrospect, a cast of middle-aged men in a film supposedly about
'five college kids' should have tipped people off that something weird was going
on, but it didn't. Instead, fans fixated on what was meant by "Gods"? Could this
be some sort of Lovecraft reference? But then along came Whedon himself to
happily mess with people's heads. Over on fan board Whedonesque, the
man himself turned up a few hours after this "news" broke to say, "This is
misinformation. While we are fans of both those actors, neither is attached to
the movie. Just FYI. However, they ARE attached to the Serenity sequel." No,
there isn't going to be a sequel to Serenity. But what's up with the fake info?
Whedon elaborated a little later: "Also, they got the plot wrong. In order
to protect the story from spoilerization, we've been sending out our OWN
misinformation, including fake sides for the actors, fake summaries, different
names... So there's gonna be a lot of 'information' leaked that will lead to
excited speculation about things you will not see. Sorry. But here's some stuff
you CAN look forward to, my word on it: 1) A person will have an emotion. 2) Two
people speaking, or "dialogue", may occur. 3) A bunch of different people will
play the part of Bob Dylan. Hope that clears everything up. More updates
soon!"

And here is the genius of Joss: Rather than fight the flow of information, he has corrupted the sources, throwing anything anybody says about this film from now until release into question. And everybody who ran the fake Times casting announcement and synopsis is now going to have to run a retraction: Whedon just got two headlines for the price of one.

Sounds rather interesting doesn't it, even though everything we have currently heard about it may not be true and it may end up being something totally different. Therefore, anything else I write about it may or may not be true...my head hurts.

What Joss would have done with the Dark Knight

Apparantly Joss Whedon had a go at writing a script for the Batman reboot that Christopher Nolan eventually won. Whedon said his tale would have been a "bit less epic" and have mainly been set in Gotham City.

"He didn't go to Tibet and meet cool people, but it was very similar in vibe," Whedon told MTV.

"In my version, there was actually a new [villain], it wasn't one of the classics - which is probably why they didn't use it. It was more of a Hannibal Lecter type - he was somebody already in Arkham Asylum that Bruce went and sort of studied with."
"It was a whole thing - I get very emotional about it, I still love the story. Maybe I'll get to do it as a comic one day."

I personally hope that Joss Whedon gets a chance to write a comic book movie. His take on Wonder Woman sounded good but it was just not to be. So that's two of the big DC Trinity that Joss has been involved with to varying degrees. I wonder if he'll get a chance to write the next Superman movie?

Serenity to fly no more

Ah, Firefly, one of the greatest TV shows of all time. Cancelled before its time, but managed to live again in the movie Serenity. Joss Whedon sure can write a yarn. There have been the odd rumour here and there saying that there could be another Firefly movie. However, in an interview with MTV Mr Whedon closes the door on and sequel....at least for the moment.

"The rumors are there because people really wish it would happen," Whedon said.

[It’s an "improbable fantasy," Whedon said. Then again, "so was making ‘Serenity’ [given the cancellation of 'Firefly'], and so is half my career, which is why I never write it off."

"I’d do it in a heartbeat," Whedon said, "because I love those people so much." But that doesn’t change the fact that the rumors are not being circulated "by anyone who owns a studio," and "nobody’s knocking on our door."

"There’s been no movement," he said. "Those rumors are just rumors, and I don’t think they’re going to stop, no matter how many times I say, ‘No, it’s not happening.’ Because somebody will say, ‘He said yes. His eyes said yes. His nose said yes. There was a yes-iness about him.’ Because people want it."

This is as mad as a box of jelly spanners. Joss Whedon's (Buffy, Serenity, Firefly, The Doll's House) latest is a 3 act Web musical following the exploits of ex Dougie Houser, Dr. Horrible (Neil Patrick Harris) a supervillian trying to get into the Evil League, defeat his nemesis, the corporate tool, Captain Hammer (Nathan Fillion) and win the heart of his love, Penny (Felicia Day). Rather funny, great production values and even the songs are pretty good.

"With my freeze ray I will stop the pain!"
