Sy-Fy is developing another spin-off series based on the 1988 film Alien Nation reports Variety. Sounds like District 9 has kick started the franchise again. The original film was set in 1991, when alien refugees had come to Earth three years before and were now attempting to integrate into Los Angeles. Tim Minear ("Angel," "The X-Files," "Firefly") is penning the update for Fox 21. This new version is set in the Pacific Northwest of the 2020's, two decades after the first alien ship crashed on Earth.

Universal Pictures has won the film rights to the classic 1979 video game Asteroids says The Hollywood Reporter. The game featured a spaceship that had to shoot down incoming asteroids to avoid collision, that's about it which means there's no backstory and a lot of creative freedom for Matthew Lopez who is adapting the script.

ShockTillYouDrop is reporting that a new live-action Resident Evil sequel called Resident Evil: Afterlife is in development for a September 2010 release. They've actually gotten confirmation from Sony that it is indeed happening. And that Paul W.S. Anderson is at least writing the script and that Capcom is on-board.

Viral Campaign for Resident Evil 5 involving body parts

Now I have heard of all the various viral ad campaigns for films and video games over the past few years, but this one is a new one to me. Apparantly you can win a trip to Africa (scene of Resident Evil 5) if you find the body parts hidden around London. It's been set up by Capcom. This is what they say on their blog:
Majini *coughZOMBIEScough* have gone through a small part of London, leaving behind a trail of remnant body parts from their victims. Find the bodies on the morning of Thursday March 12th and win a vacation to Africa.

Register at mailto:residentevil5@capcomeuro.com to be sure to receive the clues as to where the remains can be found.

Find as many of the bodies as you can, or what is left of them, and return them to Westminster Bridge by 11am.

The body parts will be hidden at locations near Trafalgar Square, within this area.
And this is where you should take them.

Alert us to your presence by standing on the bridge, holding the artificial body parts over your head and shouting "Kijuju!" We will be there, watching you, and will approach when you make yourselves known.

Points allocated for each body part - 2 points for arms, 2 points for legs, 3 points for torsos , 5 points for a head. The more body parts you find and bring to us, the more points you get. The player(s) with the most points by 11am win the trip to Africa.

The game begins at 9am. Good hunting - we will see you on the bridge. Take pictures, take video, have fun. And don't wear your best clothes - it's going to be messy.
Thanks to Pat for sending me this. Sounds most interesting, if a bit odd. I do hope the Police are notified before it takes place. If any of the LFF readers in London are able to take part let me know how you got on and send me photos.

The Random - Hyperion, Iron Man 2, Gulliver's Travels, Cloud Atlas, Rambo V, Resident Evil, The Flash

Scott Derrickson (The Day The Earth Stood Still) to direct Dan Simmons' Hyperion Cantos. Beware the Shrike!

Variety is reporting that Emily Blunt and Jason Segel are both in negotiations to join 20th Century Fox's Gulliver's Travels comedy that will star Jack Black. Emily Blunt was rumored to appear as Black Widow in Iron Man 2 - apparently not anymore. "Fox holds an option on the actress that was part of her deal when she co-starred in The Devil Wears Prada, and the studio may invoke it to see that she takes part in the giant tale."

Tom Tykwer said "I'm trying to adapt a novel called Cloud Atlas, which is a novel by David Mitchell that I'm really completely excited about. And I'm sitting down with the Wachowski Brothers and trying to adapt that for a screenplay. It's very interesting." More here.

ExtraTV have the news on Rambo V. Stallone says "Yeah, we are doing another Rambo, but the conflict is whether to do it in America or a foreign country…"

The next Resident Evil film will be set in Alaska. JoBlo reports that Patrick Tatopoulos in charge of the creature effects. Michael Lantieri has also been hired as the special effects supervisor, and the report regarding the script is that the location is to be Alaska and it's a lot darker than the previous films.

IESB is claiming that they know for certain that screenwriter Dan Mazeau is currently working on a Flash script for Warner Brothers.
