Red Dwarf back for Easter and back to Earth

Cheers to Matt for sending me the link to the BBC. Good news indeed as I was always a big fan of Red Dwarf. Hopefully Norman Lovett will be back as the original Holly.

Cult comedy Red Dwarf is returning to TV, 21 years after its initial launch.

The show has been resurrected by digital channel Dave for a two-part Easter weekend special, which sees the cast finally return to Earth.

Written and directed by Red Dwarf co-creator Doug Naylor, the new show reunites the line-up, including Coronation Street's Craig Charles.

The hit show, which ran for eight series on BBC Two between 1988 and 1999, won an International Emmy award.

'No holds barred'

Set three million years into the future, the show followed the exploits of Dave Lister, slovenly crew member of the mining ship Red Dwarf - and the last man in the universe.

He was joined in his weekly attempts to make it back to Earth by a cast of oddballs including human hologram Arnold Rimmer, sanitation mechanoid Kryton and Cat - a preening half-man, half-animal who evolved from the ship's cat.

At its peak, Red Dwarf pulled in around eight million viewers and was broadcast in more than 25 countries.

It has sold more than seven million DVDs and videos.

The new two-part series Red Dwarf: Back to Earth will be followed by a "no holds barred" episode without sets, special effects or autocue.

The weekend will climax with Red Dwarf: the Making of Back to Earth, a behind-the-scenes special from the new episodes.

KITTnapped - Knight Industries super car stolen!

This from the Movie Blog. Cheers to Matt for pointing it out.

Apparently on a publicity event almost a week ago in Toronto Canada, someone managed to steal the actual Modified Mustang that is used in the new NBC series Knight Rider.

RGBFilter says The car was making a stop in Toronto for a publicity stunt in front of Union Station on Front Street.

The car was being unloaded from its transport trailer for a crowd of onlookers. When its handler turned her back for a moment, a man darts from the median, jumps into the still-running ride, and peels off heading East on Front Street.

In the video, you see the security team member wheel the new KITT off the flatbed truck and then exit the car (still running) to return to the truck. With the door still open, some impulsive car thief ran out and hopped in the car and took off.

According to those in attendance, this was a legitimate theft, and not a publicity stunt. If it was then they hired nothing but actors for the security team and PR people because moments after the video, the shit hits the fan and everyone is clearly upset.

Its been almost a week and no one has exposed it as publicity, and its not said if it was recovered.

UPDATE: This from andPOP. Cheers to Chisholm for the heads up.

Now, the network behind the new show has revealed that the "theft" was actually part of a "unique viewer engagement promotion" giving fans a chance to win a new Ford Mustang."

On the final day of KITT's celebrity tour, crowds of Knight Rider enthusiasts were left stunned when a man ran out of the crowd, dove into KITT and screeched off," E! said in a statement Tuesday.

"Intense speculation spread across news outlets and viral communities promoted by links to YouTube with audience cell phone footage of the 'KITTnapping' action. And now E! is looking for help to find KITT."

The contest calls for participants to post where KITT has been spotted at eonline.com and watch E! for updated daily KITT sightings.

Fans have the chance to win a Mustang GT Coupe or a number of limited edition Mio Knight Rider GPS units.

So now we know!

Gears of War Movie gets a step closer

Thanks to Matt for this one.

Legendary Pictures, responsible for Batman Begins and co-financing The Dark Knight, has agreed to put up half the money for the upcoming Gears of War film.

The other half is already being spotted by New Line Cinema, according to Variety, which began the movie adaptation early last year.

Those attached to the project so far are Die Hard 4.0 director Len Wiseman and The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift writer Chris Morgan, who will be redrafting the original script by Stuart Beattie (of Collateral and Pirates of the Caribbean fame).

The cast is yet to be revealed, if there indeed is one yet, and the Gears of War film is expected in summer 2010.
Epic, developer of the Gears of War game, has appointed designer Cliff Bleszinski as creative go-between to ensure the film remains as faithful as possible to the original IP. Tom met the man formerly known as "Cliffy B" at E3 recently, and said he was very nice.

Legendary Pictures was also responsible for action film 300 and is behind the helm on upcoming comic-book adaptation Watchmen.
