Spinal Tap on Rock Band

Harmonix and MTV Games today announced that a four pack of tracks from icon rock stars Spinal Tap, along with a three pack from Evanescence, will be added to the Rock Band®Music Store of downloadable content next week for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system.

Three of the four Spinal Tap tracks (“Back from the Dead,” Rock ‘n’ Roll Nightmare” and “Warmer Than Hell”) come from the band’s new album Back From The Dead (The Label Industry Records/A2M)also being released on June 16. The fourth track in the new Rock Band packagewill be “Saucy Jack,” a song St. Hubbins wrote about the life of Jack the Ripper, which was previously only available on the band’s website.Back From The Dead featuresnew versions of the band’s classic hits and six newly recorded songs plus an hour-long DVD.The DVD is atrack-by-track video commentary by members David St. Hubbins, Nigel Tufnel and Derek Smalls.

“Tap has always gone where the audience is,” said Smalls. “We hope this time the audience reciprocates. Whatever that means.”

Best known as “England’s Loudest Heavy Metal Band," Spinal Tap wasforever immortalized in the 1984 classic film This Is Spinal Tap, which the group immediately labeled a “hatchet job” and “character assassination.” Since that time, the film has been added to The Library of Congress' National Film Registry’s list of 25 American cinematic works selected for historical preservation - called a ‘culturally significant’ work. Besides their new album, Spinal Tap will be reuniting for their ‘One Night Only World Tour’ when they play London’s Wembley Arena on June 30.

Long live the Tap.

Prototype - Trailer for shape changed video game mayhem

I realy hope the game is as good as this trailer.

Alex Mercer lives in an unforgiving world. Activision would like to show you why in the full cinematic intro to their genetically-mutated action game Prototype for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Kiddies there's an age-gate here for a reason, and no, you can't ALL be born on January 2, 1901.

Prototype launches June 9.

Fallout 3 - The Pitt Trailer

In this DLC pack, the player will journey to the industrial raider town called The Pitt, located in the remains of Pittsburgh. In contrast to Operation: Anchorage, The Pitt will involve a more traditional questline with several morally-ambiguous choices. The main quest involves the player taking on the role of a slave in order to investigate rumors that the Raider boss of The Pitt has discovered a cure for mutations. The DLC is intended to feature 4-5 hours of additional gameplay

Fallout 3 - Garden of Eden Creation Kit has gone live. Modders everywhere are happy

I've been playing Fallout 3 on the X-Box 360 for a while and I love the whole post apocalyptic feel to it. Looks great, is absolutely massive and can be quite funny in places. Now Bethesda have said that its Garden of Eden Creation Kit has just gone live. The G.E.C.K. is the official editing tool for the PC version of Fallout 3. No good to me on the 360 but cool for those with the PC version.

Below is one of the results of the release. Airshom's Wasteland Dancin'

Wanted: Weapons of Fate - Trailer for video game based on James McAvoy film based on Mark Millar's comic

Wanted: Weapons of Fate is an upcoming video game developed by GRIN and published by Universal Studios. It is set to be released for Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game is set in the continuity of the 2008 film and picks up where the movie left off with Wesley (James McAvoy) taking on the French chapter of “The Fraternity”.

The Wiki entry states, "Based on Universal Pictures’ action-thriller Wanted, starring James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie, the Wanted videogame, Wanted: Weapons of Fate, promises to deliver the same fantastic visual style and edge-of-your-seat action as the blockbuster motion picture.

In Wanted: Weapons of Fate players continue the story of hero Wesley Gibson, picking up the action where the film left off to create an entirely new chapter exploring both Wesley’s journey to becoming an unmatched überassassin and the epic fiction of “The Fraternity" in the Wanted mythology. Players will take on the role of Wesley or his father Cross and confront all new enemies, including the French chapter of the Fraternity, a group that is fanatical about upholding the code of the Loom of Fate. The French chapter is headed by The Immortal, a severe Fraternity leader with a grudge against Wesley and his family, and also employs Araña, a beautiful but deadly Spanish assassin, and Brummel, the businessman assassin who is as street smart as he is sophisticated.

Featuring intense third-person action, Wanted: Weapons of Fate will take combat to the next level with iconic moves such as “Curving Bullets” and “Assassin Time” drawn directly from the film, as well as an innovative, multi-layered cover mechanic."

Now that states the game follows on from the film, but you can play as Wesley's father Cross, who apparantly died in the film. Not sure if this will be as a flashback in the game or just a wiki-error.

Here's the trailer.

UPDATED: X-Box 360 to get Blu-Ray add on?

Boing Boing have news on a rumour that keeps cropping up. The XBox 360 may be getting Blu-Ray sooner rather than later

X-Bit Labs is reporting that Microsoft not only plans on releasing an external Blu-Ray drive for the 360, but that it's already basically ready to go at a $100-$150 price point. Good news if true: Blu-Ray is one of the only real advantages the PS3 has over the 360, and a Blu-Ray drive could help even out the feature list... even if Microsoft has to swallow a bit of pride to do so.

Microsoft Preps External Blu-Ray Disc Optical Drive for Xbox 360 [X-Bit Labs via Crave]

UPDATE: For their part, Microsoft is still denying the inclusion of Blu-ray in the 360.

Just so you know the image above is just a mock up. Not sure why Microsoft are dragging their feet on this. HDDVD is dead and gone. My son has a 360 that he kindly lets me use and I want Blu Ray. Who else is with me?
