Will The Eternal find peace?

Another Vampire film but I like the story behind this one. Kind of like Dracula and Highlander mashed up.

Samuel Gradius has lived too long. In his 500 years on earth he has seen empires rise and fall, changed the course of history with his bare hands and experienced countless revolutions first hand. Samuel Gradius is a vampire, perhaps the only vampire, and he’s had enough. He wants to die. No longer content with the idea of simple suicide, he makes the decision to go out in the ways of old. He wants a warrior’s death. The Eternal follows Samuel on the pursuit of his own personal oblivion, he hopes, at the hands of someone worthy.

Apparantly their is a graphic novel prequel:

“The Eternal: Final Dawn tells the life (and undead) story of Samuel Gradius, born in 1463 Scotland as Samhairle Greme. Twelve chapters tell his journey, from birth until 2009, and the first moments of the feature film The Eternal. Set against the backdrop of real history and known myth, the horrific, tragic and humorous collide in The Eternal: Final Dawn. Welcome to Samuel’s world – we can’t guarantee your safety.”

The graphic novel represents the first step in offering a unique immersive experience for an independent film, as out of the twelve total issues, the first six will be offered online in monthly installments, entirely free. The first issue is expected to be offered online later this year, and will be previewed at the upcoming Rue Morgue Festival of Fear in Toronto. You can view the teaser issue here.

- Horror legend Clive Barker says that Pascal Laugier (Martyrs) will not be directing the remake of Barker's classic Hellraiser - full details

- Jaron Pitts, the man behind that cool fan made Green Lantern film trailer I recently posted, talks about the work to Popdose.

- Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle has acquired the film rights to Suketu Mehta’s 2004 book Maximum City: Bombay Lost and Found which Boyle said was a big influence on him while filming the Best Picture winner - full details

- Screenwriter Derek Haas on writing Beverly Hills Cop 4: “Like with the first Beverly Hills Cop, we’re writing a straight up action movie that works as a police thriller, then Eddie Murphy is going to come in later and point out where he thinks he can riff. We haven’t gotten to that point yet.”

- Lisa Kudrow, Alyson Machalka, Thomas Haden Church, Patricia Clarkson, Stanley Tucci, Penn Badgley, Cam Gigandet, Malcolm McDowell and Daniel Bird have joined Emma Stone and Amanda Bynes in the Will Gluck-directed comedy Easy A.

- Dan Fogler (Fanboys, Balls of Fury) talks about a film loosely based on the exploits of legendary 70s radio D.J, Wolfman Jack. “It’s a tall tale - though instead of Paul Bunyon, it’s Wolfman Jack”, says Fogler, who’d play the lead. “The movie starts out like a traditional biopic, but then it turns into a spaghetti western! What happens is – and they’ll kill me for revealing this – near the end, James Brown teams up with Wolfman Jack to fight off Mexicans!"

- The script review for the Highlander remake is out. It doesn't sound too good - "they change a few things, including the ending, but mostly this is the same story with the same characters that we remember from the original. It isn't so much that the screenwriters (Art Marcum & Matt Holloway) are telling a different story, but that they are telling the same story in the wrong way - while all of the major characters from the original are included in the remake mostly as they were, they've been changed in seemingly minor, but truly significant ways that render them all lesser characters. "

Russell Mulcahy takes the Bait

Russell Mulcahy has recently made the nice looking Give 'em Hell Malone starring Thomas Jane. He also made Highlander and The Shadow amongst many other things.

Now, for his next film, Bait, he appears to have taken whole heap of high concepts and thrown into something that can only be described as a great big mess. Oh it will also be in 3-D.

In a sleepy coastal resort community, shoppers at an underground supermarket find themselves terrorized by a crazed bandit when the unimaginable occurs… A monstrous freak tsunami swallows the town. Now trapped inside a flooded supermarket with an armed maniac and rushing water threatening to entomb them all in a watery grave, the imprisoned band of survivors discover they’re not alone. The tsunami has brought some unwanted visitors from the depths. As the waters rise they must overcome not only the threat of drowning, but another threat, just as deadly and far more bloodthirsty… Packs of hungry tiger sharks.

You probably feel much the same way I do after that.

Bioshock - That's right the dystopian vision of the 360 game is currently in development for the big screen. Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) is running the show - he must love the water! Screenplay to be written by John Logan (Sweeney Todd). As long as it is done right the city of Rapture should look amazing. Not sure if it will be following the story of the game or whether it will just be set in the same world. Still should be cool watching the Big Daddy and Splicer fights. I really must finish that game, but it always leaves me feeling nervous!

Highlander - I didn't see this one coming but looks like a remake or reimagining of the Immortal ones is on the cards. The blokes who wrote Iron Man (Art Marcum and Matt Holloway) are working on the screenplay. It's got a budget of $50 Million and rumours of Ewan McGregor or James McAvoy starring in it have begun to creep around the net. They'll have to work on their French accent to blend with their native tongue for it to be like the original! There can be only one.

Flash Gordon - I've not seen any of the recent TV series but I've heard how terribly bad it is. Major suckage apparantly. Still it hasn't stopped Gordon making it to the big screen once more. Breck Eisner (Sahara) is down to direct it.

The Hobbit - Guillermo del Toro is busy on this one (actually two movies). He's said that casting is still a good way away, but rumours abound that James McAvoy (he gets everywhere) will be the titular Bilbo Baggins. However del Toro has said there will be parts for his good buddy Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Cronos) and Ian Holm who played Bilbo in the Lord of the Rings movies. Back to back filming is due to start in 2011.

Spider-Man 4 - Some good news on this one after the disappointment of Spidey 3 (Emo Parker was just rubbish and Venom was wasted). James Vanderbilt (the bloke who did the screenplay for Zodiac) has completed his first draft of the movie. Rumour has it that it sets up a story arc that needs to be told over two films. Tobey Maguire is still down to play Parker, but word is out that Patrick Fugit (Almost Famous) could be steeping into the red and blue tights.
