8 - Character poster from Shane Acker's 9

Armed with a giant kitchen knife and half a scissor blade, the none-too-bright muscle and enforcer of the group, 8, is created to help the others physically survive the dangerous, post-apocalyptic world.
8 is voiced by Fred Tatasciore, who studied animation at UCLA with director Shane Acker, where he became known for his voiceover talents on other students' films. Fred was enlisted to voice 8, the "brawn to 1''s brain if you will," says Acker.

The Random - No Nolan on Batman 3? 9, Star Trek 2, Jurassic Park 4, Neverending Story, Bourne 4, Red Dawn, Sean Penn
Batman-On-Film have the news that Christopher Nolan still has yet to commit to a third Batman film, and at this point he still isn’t interested in making another installment in the Batman series. Who would be a good director to take his place?
Focus Features has launched a viral site at 9experiment.com for Shane Acker's 9.
SciFi Wire talked with the writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci recently about how they're planning to tackle the sequel to J J Abrams Star Trek. "I think the major lesson we learned is that fans were willing to accept differences and surprises, provided that they were somehow echoes or inspired by canon," Orci said in an exclusive interview earlier this month. He added: "We still have to be true to Star Trek the next time around, but we've also been blessed with being able to be unpredictable. And that doesn't mean we can just be shocking for no good reason and just throw everything away… It still has to echo everything that Star Trek has been."
Producer Frank Marshall talked with Coming Soon about the future of various projects and franchises he's involved in.
Bourne 4 "We'd like to shoot next year. It's trying to get everybody's schedules in the right place and getting the script right. We've done pretty well with these scripts that are pretty loosely put together, but I'd like the script to be really solid this time before we go forward. We're spending a lot of time on this story" says Marshall.
The Neverending Story - It sounds like the remake will be more faithful to the original book - "We love the book and we've always thought there was an opportunity (because) there were a lot of elements in the book that weren't in the movie. It's another one where we're still working on the rights and it's a huge thing to get it. Once we get it, we'll bring on a writer, but that's kind of off in the distance. But it's a great story."
Jurassic Park IV - It's still quite a long way away - "We just have to see if they can come up with a story. We don't have a story."
Marshall also is looking into an adaption of the New Yorker article The Last of the Metrozoids about art historian Kirk Vanedoe and his decision to coach a football team before he died of cancer shortly afterwards, and a film adaptation of Warren St. John's book "Outcasts United" about immigrants on a soccer team in Georgia.
Josh Peck (The Wackness, Special) and Adrianne Palicki have joined the cast of the remake of Red Dawn for MGM/UA says The Hollywood Reporter. The story follows a group of teenagers who form an impromptu insurgency when their town is invaded by Chinese and Russian soldiers. Peck will play Matt Eckert, the hotheaded younger brother of Jed Eckert (Chris Hemsworth - Star Trek, Thor) and star quarterback of their Spokane high school football team. Palicki will play Tonim a tough fighter the brothers encounter who develops romantic feelings for Jed, a Marine home on leave and the group's unofficial leader. John Milius directed the original 1984 Cold War-era actioneer, the new one will be handled by "The Bourne Ultimatum" and "Quantum of Solace" second-unit director Dan Bradley. Filming kicks off in September.
Sean Penn has dropped out of Universal's action movie Cartel as well as MGM's Three Stooges, according to several sources in Hollywood, including Hollywood Reporter and Deadline Hollywood. Word is that he's had private conversations where he's said that he doesn't want to work "right away" and wants to "regroup" and "just needs personal time."

9 - Brilliant poster for rag doll post-apocalyptic film

9 takes place in a world parallel to our own, in which our very humanity is threatened. A group of rag dolls living a post-apocalyptic existence find one of their own, 9, who may be the key to their survival.
The film is also rated PG-13 which means it will be able to match the darkness set up for this post-apocalyptic tale.
Be sure to check out Shane Acker's award winning animated short, More.

The Seamstress from Shane Acker's 9

9 follows a little sewn-up ragdoll hero, created by one of the last remaining humans on Earth, as he is tasked with preserving life on the planet. His only help: the other tiny rag-doll creations. Together they journey over the deserted planet, trying to figure out what that caused all the creepy machines (like the Seamstress) to turn on their human masters.
This Seamstress figure is definitely the stuff of nightmares and this animated feature is shaping up to be something rather good.
[Director Shane Acker] was inspired by the mythological Medusa in his creation of this serpentine hunter. Fashioned with a doll's head, grasping prehensile arms, an intricate thread-spool mechanism, and hypnotic eyes, the Seamstress lures her prey out of hiding and stuns them into submission before sewing them up within herself.
As for 9 (voiced by Elijah Wood) he is described as "Made out of burlap, with detailed copper hands and feet, 9 is the most physically refined, emotionally attuned of the 9 stitch-punk beings – the closest to perfection. His curious, proactive nature causes him to oppose 1’s strategy of hiding, opting instead for action and setting the stage for conflict over leadership of the group."
The film is due out on 9th September, 2009 which is of course 09/09/09 on whichever side of the Atlantic you happen to be on.

9 - New trailer for post-apocalyptic doll film
When 9 (Elijah Wood) first comes to life, he finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world. All humans are gone, and it is only by chance that he discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the earth intent on their extinction. Despite being the neophyte of the group, 9 convinces the others that hiding will do them no good. They must take the offensive if they are to survive, and they must discover why the machines want to destroy them in the first place. As they’ll soon come to learn, the very future of civilization may depend on them.
As well as Elijah Wood it also stars 1 (Christopher Plummer), a domineering war veteran; 2 (Martin Landau), an aged inventor; 5 (John C. Reilly), a stalwart mechanic; 6 (Crispin Glover), a visionary and artist; and 7 (Jennifer Connelly), a brave warrior.

Who will win the 2010 Oscars?
The 2009 Oscars have come and gone, but the movie industry rumbles ever onwards. Pam (thanks again) sent me the link to a great article on The Ampersand (love that word, great name for a monkey!)
In it they talk about what could possibly win at next years Oscars. Obviously it is a way off and there will be plenty of films out between now and then, but this is what they have come up with for some of the awards.
What films do you think will be in the running for next years Oscars and what don't have a hope in hell?

Best Animated FeatureCheck out the rest of the article for their thoughts on best actor and actress.
Coraline -- This stop-motion pic has already garnered the critical acclaim; it's probably a safe bet to snag a nomination.
Up -- It's the latest from Pixar, which means a nomination is all-but-guaranteed.
Monsters vs. Aliens -- The use of 3D technology -- it's supposed to be jaw-dropping -- might push it into contention.
9 -- Shane Acker's post-apocalyptic epic has some big names behind it, including Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted). Plus, the animated short it is based on snagged an Academy Award nomination in 2005, which means it has the right pedigree.
Best Director
Martin Scorsese -- Ashecliffe -- Although we prefer the film's original title, Shutter Island, you can never discount Scorsese.
Michael Mann -- Public Enemies -- See the above category of Best Actor. With a cast that includes Depp and Bale, this will be a film worth watching. Mann is always solid.
James Cameron -- Avatar -- Cameron's first feature film in over a decade, this film is going to be huge. The buzz is Avatar may be a game-changer, a film that changes the way we watch movies. It may be too sci-fi to garner a Best Picture nomination, but if I were a betting man a Best Director nomination for Cameron would be a worthy gamble.
Best Picture
Where The Wild Things Are -- We have absolutely no evidence to back this up, except for the hope that Spike Jonze, Dave Eggers, and everyone else can pull off this long-delayed adaptation of the children's classic.
Nine -- No, not 9, the animated feature mentioned above. Nine. Yes, this is going to be confusing. The Academy loves musicals, loves Rob Marshall, and the cast includes Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Kate Hudson Judi Dench, and Sophia Loren. Oh, and Fergie. Can't forget Fergie.
The Lovely Bones -- Recipe for a Best Picture: take an acclaimed novel about a young girl who's brutally murdered and follows her murder investigation from Heaven. Hire an Oscar-winning screenwriting team to adapt the book; mix in an Oscar-winning director -- Peter Jackson -- and sprinkle with a cast that includes Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci, and Mark Wahlberg. Yeah, I like it's chances too.
