- Cinepro Pictures has announced a cast for their upcoming post-apocalyptic thriller Tribes of October. Philippe Martinez, who is better known as a producer more than a director even though he's got three small films under his belt, will be directing. Martinez's cast includes Ray Stevenson, Jaime King, Stephen Moyer, Robert Duvall and James Caan. The production, budgeted at a fairly low $25 million, is eying a summer start in Michigan, and will be shot using green screen to create a unique look and distinct universe. Tribes of October is set in a future in which New York has become surrounded by an endless desert plagued by heat storms, and the city's technology has decayed so much that nothing made after 1960 works. In this environment, a detective (Ray Stevenson) is on the hunt for a Mafia don (James Caan) who is going after the remnants of the NYPD, led by Robert Duvall. Stevenson's detective character is simultaneously searching for the love of his life (Jaime King). Stephen Moyer plays another cynical and street smart detective
- Ben Stiller will be taking on quite a challenge. The actor/filmmaker is set to direct a project called Help Me Spread Goodness for Participant Media, a production company that has a mandate that says their films must compel social change. Help Me Spread Goodness, written by Mark Friedman, is about a Chicago banker who gets swindled in a Nigerian Internet scam. It's described as a drama with comic overtones.
- Underworld franchise co-creator Kevin Grevioux will finally be making his directing debut with an adaptation of his own comic, The Pale Horsemen. The yet-to-be-published graphic novel is described as a modern day supernatural thriller that revolves around a gang of NSA sponsored hitmen who are forced to work together to uncover who killed their mentor.
