Watchmen: Portraits - Black and White loveliness

Watchmen is out on 6th March. Yaay! Ahem, anyway the new issue of Empire magazine has a character-by-character look at the stars of the film, in Clay Enos' lovely black-and-white shots.

The new Watchmen: Portraits book, is a huge a coffee table that contains Enos' massive assembly of posed shots of both cast (from leads to extras) and crew.

Really like the sound of that.

The Random - Stephen Fry, Fleming, 1066, Afterburn, Run DMC, Tripods, Dracula Year Zero, Narnia, The A-Team, The Sigma Protocol, Centurion

Stephen Fry, Michael Gambon and Penelope Wilton have joined the upcoming film The Inn at the Edge of the World which has been adapted and is to be directed by the actor Charles Dance. According to The Hollywood Reporter the film tells the story of a group of unrelated people who want to escape the enforced Christmas and head off to a remote Scottish island.

John Orloff ("A Mighty Heart," "Guardians of Ga'Hoole") will pen the screenplay for Fleming, a biopic about James Bond author Ian Fleming, for Warner Bros. Pictures and Appian Way says The Hollywood Reporter.

1066 is being fast-tracked and is expected to hit production this year according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film tells the story of the famous battle in 1066 between King Harold and William Conqueror for the right to the English throne and is set to show two massive land battles and a naval exchange (that's not swapping boats). The writer is now attached too William Nicholson (Gladiator). He says that the film will show two men who start as comrades and become bitter enemies who will fight to the death at the infamous Battle of Hastings.

Matt Johnson ("Torque," "Into the Blue") will adapt Red 5 Comics' sci-fi series Afterburn for Relativity Media says The Hollywood Reporter. Set against the backdrop of a postapocalyptic Earth whose Eastern Hemisphere was destroyed by a massive solar flare, leaving what life remains mutated from radiation and fallout. The story revolves around a group of treasure hunters who extract such objects as the Mona Lisa, the Rosetta Stone and the Crown Jewels while facing rival hunters, mutants and pirates.

The writer of Notorious, the biographical film of the rapper Notorious B.I.G., has moved over to another record breaking black musical icon, that of the trio of Run-DMC. From The Hollywood Reporter. Producer Dallas Jackson has been talking about the biographical film and reveals that it's not to highlight on the shooting of Jason Mizell aka Jam-Master Jay but on the story of the rise of the hip-hop superstars who broke through making it internationally and through many genres of music and audience. “It's an extraordinary rags-to-riches journey that I'm eager to bring to the screen...And I'm hoping to have Run, DMC and Russell Simmons' involvement. This will be a big movie about the 1980s hip-hop movement that took over the world.”

20th Century Fox has agreed to co-finance Walden Media's The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader, pending final script and shooting budget approval reports The Los Angeles Times.

Fox's feature film based on the classic 80's TV series The A-Team is finally taking off after many months of difficulty. Joe Carnahan ("Smokin' Aces," "Narc") is in negotiations to direct while Ridley and Tony Scott's Scott Free Productions are coming on board as producers alongside show creator Stephen J. Cannell reports the trades.

Berlin Film Festival Golden Bear winner Jose Padilha ("Elite Squad") is set to helm the international thriller The Sigma Protocol for Universal Pictures says The Hollywood Reporter. Based on the final completed novel of the late "Bourne Identity" author Robert Ludlum, the 2001 thriller follows the son of a Holocaust survivor who gets entangled in an international conspiracy by industrialists and financiers to take advantage of wartime technology that reverses aging .

Michael Fassbender ("Hunger," "Eden Lake"), Dominic West ("Punisher: War Zone," "300") and Olga Kurylenko ("Quantum of Solace," "Hitman") have signed to star in the sword and sandals thriller Centurion for Celador Films and Pathe Distribution says The Hollywood Reporter. Set during the Roman invasion of Britain in AD 117 it tells the story of Quintus Dias, sole survivor of a Pictish raid on a Roman frontier fort, who marches north with General Virilus' legendary Ninth Legion, under orders to wipe the Picts from the face of the earth and destroy their leader Gorlacon. "The Descent" and "Doomsday" helmer Neil Marshall directs the film while Christian Colson ("Slumdog Millionaire") will produce.

Ghost Rider sequel saddles up

Bloody Disgusting have the news that Columbia Pictures is officially looking for writers to pen the sequel to Ghost Rider and that Nicolas Cage is attached and signed on to return.

Quite surprising though as the first film sucked big time. Such a shame as the comic book was great (I was from the Danny Ketch era) and the new series is getting great reviews.

Hopefully they'll learn from the mistakes made on the first one and it won't seem so studio bound. Would be great if Marvel Studios had it so they could mix it up with Iron Man, Hulk and the Avengers.

Soundwave from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Empire have the scoop on the Soundwave toy. You'll know that in the comics and cartoon that Soundwave transforms into a cassette player, with matching cassette tape transformers like Ravage and Laserbeak stored in his chest. Unfortunately since Frenzy turned into a small CD player in the first film, they've made Soundwave into a jet for now. Hopefully he'll have a third transformation into a sound system.

Predator Reboot - Robert Rodriguez says so

A reliable source got in touch with Bloody Disgusting to tell them that Robert Rodriquez and his Troublemaker Studios will be producing the Predator reboot for 20th Century Fox.

The pitch being sent around town implies that the reboot will have more than one predator. "In the reboot a team of commandoes face down a mysterious race of vicious monsters." No writer has been attached yet - and there is no script. No word on whether or not Rodriquez will direct, but it seems highly unlikely considering how many projects he has in development.

I hope it's better than the two Alien vs Predator films. I love me some Predator.

The Thing - Ron Moore to write the prequel

First Showing have this brilliant piece of news.

In 1982, John Carpenter released The Thing, the second film to be spawned from John W. Campbell Jr.'s short story "Who Goes There." Universal has officially announced today that Ronald D. Moore, the mastermind behind such groundbreaking shows as "Carnivale" and "Battlestar Galactica," will pen the script for the prequel which focuses on a Norwegian camp overrun by shape-shifting aliens. The film has commercial director Matthijs Van Heijningen attached to direct.

Hush - Trailer for man in a van horror

What would you do if you saw someone in trouble? Would you help, or turn the other way? In HUSH, a young couple, Zakes and Beth, are driving up a dark, rain-soaked M1, when they are abruptly cut off by a wildly-driven truck. For a brief moment, the back of the truck rolls open to reveal what looks like a distressed, half-naked woman, tied up and caged. Only half convinced of the reality of what he has seen, Zakes reports the incident to the police and then tries to put the whole thing out of his mind.

Shocked and angry at how unconcerned he is, Beth storms off when they pull in at a service station. When Zakes goes to look for her, shes nowhere to be found... but a familiar looking truck, driven by a mysterious hooded figure, is pulling out of the car park. Sugar - Trailer for baseball film

Filmmakers Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden (Half Nelson) weave this introspective sports drama concerning a talented Dominican baseball player who longs to break into the American big league and earn the money needed to support his impoverished family. World War Z - Possible concept art

io9 had these amazing pieces of art by Daniel LuVisi. They show the Battle of Yonkers from Max Brook's World War Z and they are absolutely amazing. I hope the film looks as good as this.

The artist said "This is the image I did, to get on the film World War Z with Marc Forster, director of Quantum of Solace. Can't say whats going on or what the outcome is right now, but it's not in the negative zone :)

This was one of the most difficult images I've ever done. Incredibly challenging to the point where I wanted to quit. But through thick and thin I forced myself to complete it."
