Based on a true story, The Soloist is about a schizophrenic homeless man named Nathaniel Ayers (played by Jamie Foxx) who is actually a musical prodigy that's discovered on the streets by LA Times journalist Steve Lopez (played by Robert Downey Jr).
The Soloist is directed by English filmmaker Joe Wright, of Pride & Prejudice and Atonement previously. The script was written by Susannah Grant, of 28 Days, Erin Brockovich, Catch and Release, and Charlotte's Web, and is based on newspaper articles written by Steve Lopez.
